  1. My Fabia II is doing this as well especially in the wet and cold in addition to being accompanied by a metallic clunking noise from the rear over bumps. My Fabia is just over two years old and has done 26k, do they really fail this early? If so I will ask my dealer if they can fit the alternate Ibiza part, whats the point of replacing them if they are just going to wear again
  2. Instead of comparing the SDI to the TDI, comapre it to the 1.4 TDI. I find it hard to beleive that the SDI can be more economical than the 1.4TDI, the 1.9SDI would need to be worked so hard just to keep up with traffic wheras the lower down torque surge of the 1.4TDI would require less throttle input, as well as providing at least an adequate amount of power for sensible use. This video actually makes me beleive the SDI could be dangerously slow in some situations, even when you take care to factor in it's lack of pace What I could never argue with is the lack of turbo improves reliability drastically, not only no turbo but fewer electronics. Probably one of those engines that will run until the end of time
  3. I like the RX8, but I really dont like the engine, theres a reason why practically all cars have piston engines :dull If you have a petrol craving a little something from BMW with their legendary straight 6 could be just up your street, what about the Z3 instead of the Smart Coupe, they are reasonably priced, but dont go for a 1.9!!
  4. Funny question but If I had to work it out: 3120 This year
  5. To all of those with you with Fabia Tiptronics, a feature of the gearbox that is NOT detailed in the owners manual in any way is that when operating in tiptronic mode you can start off in second rather than first gear by moving the selector forward while you are totally stationary. This should help with safer and more secure driving in the snow. The car will keep launching in 2nd gear unless you use kickdown, and it also seems to revert to pulling away in first after a short while also. As I say this feature is not in the manual, and it will put more stress on the torque converter but using it in the snow should be no problem
  6. It's quite an unfortunate target along with G-Whizzes and Smart cars for being "carried off" by people it takes two men to lift the bodyshell on the production line. (Edit: Obviously thats just the shell) I dont condone this in any way................
  7. Most definatley a fail car, which is a shame because it had all the ingredients that make a great car now. The thing is, no matter how technically advanced or put together it was, there is something plain wrong about driving an Audi with a 1.4TDI. The whole aluminium thing is a bit of a problem too, not many places that can repair it, some insurers wont cover them and on some models their door hinges are ripping away from the aluminium bodies. They rattle, they are quite unreliable and sport models are unbeleivably uncomfortable I have a soft spot for it though (1.4TDI SE) and would have one in a heartbeat! I have considered one a few times before
  8. Im very sorry to tell you they have, it was the launch colour for the Fabia II Must confess though it suits the new Fabia quite well
  9. This is not true, high octane fuel does not just benefit large turbocharged motors. The 1.4 16v 100BHP in the MK1 Fabia is designed and optimised for high octane fuel, as are the VW group FSI engines that dont actually work properly unless you use high octane fuel.
  10. 1.6 Petrol will be a lot lighter than the 1.9TDI, this is why the diesel models feature a different front suspension to compensate for this weight (Including the 1.4TDI). The 1.6 Tiptonic also has the diesel front springs, this is why like you I feel the ride a lot better when the car if full of peeps! Engine weight is of massive importance, my Octy II classic 1.6 with 15" steelies and cheap ass tires could run rings around my 1.9TDI elegance which had fat 16's and expensive rubbers, the TDI just put too much weight over the front
  11. Hi Guys, Every morning when I get in the car the Maxidot flashes a red coolant sign and shows "STOP CHECK COOLANT LEVEL". I get out each time and check it and it seems fine, it's on MIN before starting the journey and just about on MAX once I have driven to work. Any Ideas on this, should I maybe top it up a little bit? The tempreature guage is fine and stays right in the middle so to be honest I havent actually stopped. Everything is running and sounding fine, apart from the idling issue which I have had problems with now for like a year. Should I get the dealer to take a look, i dont really have much time especially with xmas coming up, or should I top it up a little bit myself?
  12. If only it had the same power output as the Passat R36, just doesent have the same bonkers edge. Doesent half make a good noise though
  13. I sucesfully installed an MFD 2 in mine, would love to upgrade to the MFD 3, only reason I never have is due to the fact the GPS has never worked due to the Fabia's lack of CAN, I assume this item: Canbus simulator 1.6 to 2.0 that you refer to resolves this? If it does I know what I want for xmas:thumbup:
  14. I must be the biggest ****head of them all then for holding my foot on the brake in stationary traffic, would you rather I let my car propel itself into the one in front? We dont all drive manuals:thumbdwn:
  15. It's this engine List of Volkswagen Group petrol engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Engine Code BTS in Fabia, dont beleive it has VVT though
  16. 1.6 FSI isnt a new engine, been around for ages in other cars. Probably the 115BHP one. Maybe they will bodge it into the facelift fabia as an excuse for not having any tsi engines
  17. I had my tyres replaced on Saturday, my original bridgestone turanzas that were on the rear of the car were moved to the front, and I purchased two new Michelin Exalto P2's to be put on the rear (The fitter reccomended this rotation). I was also offered a free alignment check. This revealed the front left was 2mm out, not suprising since this wheel had hit a kerb and ever since the tyre wear was uneven. I paid to have the alignment corrected, but now at high motorway speeds there is severe vibration through the steering column and the whole car, so bad that the glovebox flew open yesterday morning!!. My question is, should I go back to the fitters and ask them to check again, or do I maybe have to wait for these new tyres to wear in? Apparantley the equipment they have is state of the art, I was promised that the car would now be smooth at high speeds, but it's worse than before
  18. I honestly dont feel it's a good platform, the Fabia II manages to be firm riding with larger wheels (an issue that plagues me!), isnt actually that comfortable or responsive. It makes the new Fabia body look arkward, lots of people on the forums have noticed this. The wheel arch gap borders on being silly If anyones driven a Peugeot 207 you will find that small car handling has come a long way, the 207 is very comfortable and handles in a fun way, just like a small hatch should, the Fabia manages neither of these, ever wondered why so many people on here fit rear ARB's and aftermarket suspension components to their Fabia's? Dont get me wrong, I have one and chose it for different reasons and I still like it. All im saying is that the platform "angst" is not overdone, it's a collosal mistake that will backfire on Skoda, If anyone has insider knowledge I would seriously love to know why the decision was made to gloss over the old model rather than go with the new platform, there was a company called Rover that kept doing that and it certainly didnt do them any good.
  19. Not many cars with such an adorably cute and characterful face, im a man and I resorted to using those words:eek: Shame about the old platform though, big question is why. When the Fabia was launched it was first to get the new platform before the Ibiza and Polo, and I cant beleive there's talks of facelifting already, only been around for about two years. Maybe thats the price you pay for starting out with an old platform in the first place. No biggie though, Ford still sell cars to the Americans with the same fundamental chassis from the early 70's
  20. I have a Level 3 Tiptronic, cant really comment on level 1 trim, just the basics I guess if thats okay for you then go for it, but you might miss some useful toys Engine and gearbox are quite good, the sport mode works well and the shifts are pretty smooth, better than most of the rivals. Bit noisy when pressing on, but got plenty of poke for overtaking or hills. Economy is okay maybe a little thirsty, though really quite good on a longer trip. If you have any specific questions let me know You will certainly find it's a world of difference from the old 1.4 polo with the 4 speed auto
  21. As long as all the internals are sufficently uprated to handle the extra power, heat and all the other ancillaries to match then there should be no problem, and to think they used to say there is no replacement for displacement................ Im all for small force inducted engines, I strongly beleive they are the future:thumbup:
  22. That Happens to be the BUICK Grand National GNX, it was the fastest sedan in the world when It was launched, 0-60 in the 4.6 second region I beleive. Very rare, not many produced and they were tuned by ASC McLaren. I have yet to see a car that looks as menacing as that big F****r does
  23. Sounds ideal for me, but one of the 16's has kerb damage (Easily Refurbed) and the tyres are starting to get low on tread, so it's not a totally fair swap, but I am sure something can be arranged if you want to PM me that would be great Only other thing that worries me is the car is on PCP, when I go to trade it in will they notice and charge me? Hopefully 15's would give the ride im looking for:thumbup:
  24. I have a Fabia 3 with the standard 16" Alloy Wheels and 205/45W16 tyres. The car is really uncomfortable and crashes over the slightest of bumpy roads. My Tyres need replacing soon all round, I was wondering if the tyres I have are uncomfortable because of their profile. Is it possible to replace with a more comfortable type or size, I have driven other lesser spec Fabia's that are much more comfy than mine because of the smaller wheels, Im also looking for a tyre with little road noise. Any Suggestions, can you change the type of tyre that goes on that rim?
  25. It wont make me rush out and buy one, the difference is too insignificant to be bothered about. The article says it gets the same engines, I was hoping to get some TSI and newer CR TDI units in the Fabia. My lease is up next year and if there is still no new engines or DSG they can forget about me having another one, This generation of Fabia is a bit of a balls up IMHO, it's just a tarted up version of the old one. Alot of the magazines are noticing that its underpinnings are a decade old now. If the Fabia had a lower list price because of less development costs then I could understand, but my Fabia cost me over £13k, I could have had a really nice ibiza with DSG for that money on a newer platform that rides and handles better. It's loosing ground to all it's rivals, and all the magazines manage to say about it is that it's well engineered and good quality, which to be honest I dont feel is true, the number of posts on here of people (including myself) that suffer a plague of interior squeaks and rattles, though to be fair those are rather minor issues. I'm not ranting, I have one and I like it, I bought one because I am loyal to the brand, but I still feel a certain dissapointment when I see the newer rivals. Old Fabia was top of the league considering the rivals at the time, but not now On the plus side it's retained that classy grown up feel of the first one that I have yet to experience in another small hatch, I think im one of a few that think its actually very attractive too, understated, cute looking with a mean edge on certain angles
