  1. I took the 150 Elegance and vRS both estates out for test drives. I was worried about it being firm but preferred it as it cornered really well and didn't feel harsh. The road noise was a little louder at higher speeds that's all. The vRS felt great with the extra power and DSG combination. These sold it for me and great fun. I took three teenagers out and they liked both and couldn't feel much of a difference in the back. They preferred the vRS seats in the front and didn't think the headrests were an issue. They look at their ipads/pods and don't look up anyway! That's teenagers for you. I think there are special fittings around for the vRS headrests to safely attach DVD screens etc. If you children are small they will be in child seats for a long time but can understand if you want to know if you feel all the bumps through the vRS suspension. Firm but smooth I would say.
  2. Naming the satnav after the famous Norweigian explorer you would it expect it to understand Norweigian! Kabe111, nice car !
  3. Interesting thread! I agree that PCP deals and what the car costs per month plays a massive part in the decision process. This is why Skoda are selling like hot cakes with the 0% deal as car part exchange prices are very poor in general and the small amount of equity is enough to move on to the next car. The 0% may offer the chance to have more equity as no interest is added in three years time. Who knows? Try buying the above on PCP and most of the deals quoted to me were 5k deposit instead of £2k. For me, only the A4 was an option to have fun and carry the family and 3 large dogs around at the weekend to the beach. A4 felt smaller and it's the old model compared to the A6. A6 was very nice but still preferred the Octavia. Odd. I am over paying my mortgage rather than using extra cash for the deposit or higher monthly repayments. This will help in the longer term way more than buying a car for cash. This is my own financial position. Everyone has different reasons. I must say out of the above as I tested most of the tdi versions , the new vRS is a great package with 0%!
  4. I think Skoda have been very clever with the marketing using the 0% and free servicing hook. 0% is just a way for us to pay the depreciation on the car over three years then hand the car back with hopefully a little over for the next deal. 0% is free money lending and even allows you to free up your cashflow if you are cash buyer to does something else for a few years. (words from an accountant) You can use carfile or orangewheels for about 14% discount but no 0% on that or about 4-5% with the 0% offer. 0% allows potential buyers to put down a very small deposit to get them into the PCP world and enjoy cheap motoring for 3 years. Skoda are probably hoping these buyers will stay for another three years and buy another car when the 3 years are up. If you are a cash buyer the online full discount is probably the way to go and just pay for the servicing. If you could get 4% interest on savings for 3 years then the 0% would be still better but these rates have long gone for safe deposit account. If you need to finance just stick to the 0% and if you pick up a further discount that's a bonus. As the PCP is 0% I am hoping it will put me in a better position in 3years as no interest is added to offset the depreciation. There could be a bit more equity available than I have at present( just finishing one of the old vat free offers with 6% PCP). The vat free was great but the 6% added a chunk of that back over the years so not so good in the end. PCP when paying interest is more expensive that a normal loan as you pay interest on the end payment that doesn't reduce over the term, so the 0% is a win win on the finance route. I looked at a similar priced Audi but their PCP was 6.4% and needed 5k deposit with higher monthly repayments. Ok different car but it shows how useful the 0% is. If you are a cash buyer get a one year old and save even more. Scary figures for example, but you could save 10k on a Superb in less than a year if you don't mind second hand. Now that's a saving... Hope the typing makes sense after a few glasses of red.......... PS don't forget the 0% sounds like it will be ending ofter this quarter. (according to my dealer but that could have been to get the deal.. )
  5. Thank you for all your help and posts! I was looking at the Superb Estate but felt the new Octavia was almost as big and had more knee room etc. Original idea - Audi A6, Superb 170 dsg, Superb Greenline, then Octavia 1.6 SE, 1.6 Elegance with DSG and for a few pounds more the vRS ! I took the vRS estate out today for a test drive and wow just got instantly hooked. . Ordered - White Octavia Estate tdi, DSG, leather - heated seats, satnav, sunset glass, cruise and spare wheel. The 0% and free servicing just adds to the feel good factor. Now the wait - told about 11 weeks.
  6. It sounds like the 0% deal will be ending. Perhaps the vat free will appear again.
  7. I will have another try in the Superb. My first choice was the Greenline but will have a look at the DSG and larger engine. Agree the Skoda Knee won't be an issue with DSG.
  8. After a few test drives of the Superb and Octavia I found I kept knocking my knee on the centre console. Gutted as I was ready to order the Superb Greenline Elegance. If I go for the automatic the left leg has more room to stretch out but otherwise it is a pain (literally)! The Octavia 3 was almost the same and the SE seats felt really nice and soft. I found the leather a little firm. I just like the shape of the Superb more and mught try the dsg demo again. I tried the 170 DSG and couldn't believe how smooth the auto box is! Lovely smooth power and plenty of grunt when needed. Not sure if I can mention but carfile are offering excellent discounts on the Superb and slightly less on the Octavia at the moment. Less of a discount with the 0% free servicing but still better than no discount to date. Worth a chat with them. Any tips on the knee issue? :-(
  9. Hi I went for a test drive the other day with a view to buying the Superb Elegance . The main reason for this was after adding up the options list on the Octavia 3 the Superb was only a few pounds out and thought it would be a larger car for the money. After trying the Superb Elegance I found that my left knee kept rubbing against the dashboard central section. I call it Skoda Knee. I would be ok if I went for the DSG as the lack of clutch pedal would allow more room for my leg to stretch out. Maybe I need to try again before I place my order. I then tried the Octavia estate in the showroom and a result my long legs fitted in fine. I found the SE spec seats really comfortable with the Elegance seats a little firmer but still great. I liked the omph from the 2.0 150bhp but not sure why but felt the 1.6 was ok and very smooth. I have a problem with my muscles and the DSG/Auto will be a must from now on. Could owners of the 1.6 DSG give me some feedback please about how the car is in general for power and smoothness of the DSG as this a different box comapred to the Superb. (amazed how effectless the 170 dsg in the superb was but too expensive for me). Many thanks
  10. Hope you don't mind the new posting as I have decided on the Superb Estate but have a few more questions. New Superb Greenline Elegance is 375 pm on 0% and free servcing offer. Total paid over 3 years with deposit £15500 optional final payment £8400. Same car but with only 6k and 1 year old is £18k 7.4% apr and is £335 per month. Total paid with same deposit £14,060 optional final payment £6400 My initial thoughts the used has dropped over 8k in one year and cheaper per month. New I am going to take this big hit myself. For the cash buyer used looks a bargain. For the finance route that I need to take, the offers seem to almost balance out. I think Skoda have been very clever with the 0%/free servicing offer as seems on paper for the extra per month to go new and also benefit from a new car with full warranty seems a no brainer. Am I missing something here? One new cars have you found any dealers offering discounts with the 0% offer? Carfile offering 4k off but don't think 0% is available. Thanks again!
  11. Can you fit a spare in the Greenline estate? I have been building my own and there is no option to add the wheel probably due to the emmissions and weight for the greenline.
  12. Many thanks for all the feedback. The PCP for the Superb Greenline is about 70 per month higher than the Octavia quote. Octavia better on final value lowering the monthly. It's a strange one with the PCP. Another one I like - Used Superb Elegance170 DSG 9k miles at £19500 - £320 per month 3 years or new Superb above 370per month 0%. The final value is almost the same at 8k. How can the second hand which has already lost 10k have a similar value to the new Greenline over the same period? Is it more to do with the interest on the used ? Any discounts on the Superb 0% deal is that asking too much?
  13. That's true. Also, I think the greenline doesn't have the heated seats option which would be nice. I might move up to the 2.0 140 or live without the heat and smaller wheels. I was almost there!
  14. Many thanks for your help. Bit of a curve ball and looked at the 1.6CR - I have been comparing the Octavia 3 and the new Superb facelift estates in Elegance specs. The Octavia estate is £21890 but then I would add Columbus, Xenons, Full leather (inc heated front seats) and electric seats/folding mirrors etc (Just easier with short wife and tall husband!) This totals 25040 excluding met paint. The new Superb has all the above in the greenline elegance and comes out at £25245! £205 more for the Superb over the Octavia same spec! I really don't mind the 1.6 as I have been inpressed with this anyway and it would also lower the road tax and probably insurance costs too. Another thing, if I went for the 19k 170 dsg ok different beast but the finance was working out at 323 compared to 310 on 0% and free servicing plus new car with new car smell! I think I have made my decision - greenline elegance Superb estate. Interesting or have I been analysing things too much? Have I missed something here?
  15. Audi are really pushing the A6 deals. I have been offered a new one cheaper than the used selection due to dealer and Audi contributions plus other incentives to move brands . Not much between the finance monthly either. Final value on PCP is stonger for the Audi helping offset the interest and slightly higher monthly cost (about £50pm). Saying that there is still something that is pulling me towards the Superb with 10k off list price ok used but great value.
  16. silver1011, many thanks for the link! The Superb is already at the top of my list and hopefully I can buy one within the next few weeks.
  17. Thank you very much for all your feedback. I have already discounted the Passat as it seemed to offer poor value spec vs price compared to the Superb. The A6 Avant ex demo is £26500 (5k and about 5 months old) - sat nav, leather on the SE spec. The Superb I have seen is 19k , 8 months old and with 12k miles. The Skoda finance 8.9 does seem high as it is double the Audi offer and it all comes from VW finance! Perhaps there will be room on the deal to offset the interest. I am self employed so part of the costs can be reclaimed and I do like the idea that the Superb has already lost about 7k. This is interesting - webuyanycar would buy the Superb above for 17k so only 2k difference. However, on the Audi they would offer 18620 - 8k difference! Would that be due to the sheer number of Audi A6 on the market?
  18. I have narrowed my list down to the above and would be interested to hear if you have gone from an A6 to the Superb / Octavia 3 etc please. I have looked at the Octavia 3 Estate Elegance on 0% but with extras like Columbus, heated seats, Xenons the price jumps up. The Audi A6 Avant seems to have good second hand ex demo deals around for similar money. The 170 DSG Superb Estates for around 18-19k on 8.9% Skoda PCP again looks like ex demos 4 to 8k on the clock which is great value. The Superb is at the top of the list followed by the A6. I don't have to have DSG but after driving one recently I really like them. Swings and roundabouts with the 0% Octavia offer compared to the 8.9% as the Octavia is based on list price compared to depreciation offsetting the interest on the Superb. The A6 offer is in the middle with 4.6% apr and free servicing for 2 years. What sort of average mpg do you see on the 170 CR DSG and is it reliable? Many thanks
  19. As you press for their price it will ask you for your details then it proceeds with the discounted price.
  20. I just noticed it on drive the deal. It shows the 200 Elegance for 21170 and the vRS estate for 22351.13 (over 3k off) No options showing for the vRS but the Elegance all seem to match might have just been added? http://www.skoda.co.uk/models/new-octavia-estate-vrs/equipment Prices seem to match the Skoda site. Hope this helps and it's true!
