  1. My Fabia 3 was reversed into, and needs repairing - new bonnet, light clusters etc. The 3rd party insurers have accepted liability. I can choose where I take my car to be repaired, the accident management company's preferred one being Alton Cars Ltd at Barnsley. They are Skoda approved, so have to follow the Skoda rules, and having popped in there, seem to to repair just about any make out there. Anyone had any experience/s of using them? Alternatively, would I be better off having the work carried out at a Skoda approved main dealer bodyshop, ie JCT600, Vertu (VW/Skoda/Seat/Audi)? Has anyone got any experience/s of using any of these, or anywhere else in the Sheffield/Chesterfield areas?

  3. Thanks for your reply rum4mo, and yes it is a 59A/h battery. The thing is, that soon after the battery is put on charge, it's back to vehicle power consumption high. For example, battery charged by dealership and driven for 35 miles the next day, everything ok. 3 days later, the car was driven 180 miles, 150 on motorways. Everything was ok except for VPCH for the first 10 miles. 3 days later, and the S/S system was not available once for a further 390 miles over 15 days. I had everything possible switched off, including daytime running lights. At one point when S/S was working, the dreaded VPCH appeared after 3 x S/S engine restarts, and didn't recover for the rest of that journey ( 5 miles). I tried turning the ignition on, and one by one turning on lights, air con, full blower, wipers, heated rear window. S/S system was available. As soon as the engine was cranked over, VPCH appeared , and didn't recover. I'm certain that this is not how the S/S system is supposed to function, as It used to work as it should do. I was given a list of parameters for S/S functionality to be available, and the only one I cannot eliminate as being met is 'sufficient battery capacity > 60%...' Anyone any ideas?
  4. Thanks Ken - unfortunately the battery test printouts just say DIN. It's a nightmare trying to get Skoda to do anything positive. They charge the battery and next day VPCH again. Over 20k miles in 2 years from new, regular 20 + mile journeys. No starting or low battery issues at all
  5. Trying to resolve 'vehicle power consumption high' Fabia 3. Looking at some battery tests (VAS6161). One says voltage measured 12.86v 414 A (DIN), another says voltage measured 12.26v 360A (DIN). Does anyone know what the (DIN) value represents?
  6. Maybe once a month or even longer. It's random, but only happens when the car is unlocked, (no key in ignition). Open any door (including the tailgate), and the message appears. After driving 25 metres, the message clears. It's very odd, but then so are the other electronic issues I have.
  7. That's an interesting one. Hopefully an obvious cause will be found. I would have a diagnostic check done asap if you haven't done so already, as Skoda may not proceed without tangible evidence of it having occurred. My Fabia does it intermittently when the car is unlocked. Been going on for 2 years.
  8. Thanks for the replies. Just to be clear then, if the warranty history just says Oil service or Oil and inspection service and nothing else, does Skoda not assume that it's been done bearing in mind that it's actually part of the service schedule? If not, should it say for example, Oil and Inspection service, Body + glass inspection.
  9. Does anyone know how to check if the bodywork inspection has been carried out for warranty purposes? Should it be checked on all services, (fixed/variable)? Also, how is this logged on the Skoda database, or does it merely say Oil Service or Oil inspection service, can it be seen with the Skoda app, and how should this show on the paperwork given to the customer, if at all?
  10. In my case, ( Fabia, not an Octavia), a fault was not always stored to be read by diagnostics. On occasion it would clear itself after a period of time. I've also been advised that codes sometimes clear themselves after a certain amount of ignition off/on cycles. I provided photographic evidence of the fault displayed on the maxidot screen to the dealer as proof that the problem existed. Skoda then ran whatever diagnostic/s they do . If a relevant code existed, Skoda would follow it up with a plan of action to remedy the problem. When there was no relevant code, I wasn't charged ( the car's had several attempts to fix the issue). I would suggest that you ask for your money to be refunded because; you provided photographic evidence of the error message or, if you didn't, why would you have taken the trouble to take the car in in the first place if there wasn't an issue. If the dealer won't oblige, raise a complaint with Skoda UK. If they won't help, ask that the money be retrospectively refunded next time the message appears - it will. Secondly, take a photo of the error message every time it happens if possible, along with the mileage. Armed with evidence, take the car to the dealer asap to be looked at (ignition cycles mentioned above).
  11. Please can anyone tell me where I can find the service schedule (what's actually done on what service.) for my 2018 1.0 litre DSG (Gasoline particulate filter) Fabia. Can't find it in the provided or online manuals. All they say is to contact the dealer. I'm on fixed 10k mile servicing which is what I want, and am nearing the 2 years old/20k miles mark. The Skoda web site offers some information and national pricing, but doesn't seem to specify exactly what work is to be done. Oh for the days when a car had a separate service book with all this info in it!
  12. Sorry to hear about the issue/s you have. My car showed the P park error the day after I bought it new, but seems to happen when one of the doors is opened, even without the key in the ignition barrel. Do you also have the speed limiter problem (I don't have cruise control)? Maxidot shows !LIM. This happens very regularly after a stop/start event, for example waiting at a standstill for entry into a roundabout/ T junction etc. and pulling away. The speed limiter has to be switched on but not set necessarily. To clear the error needs the ignition to be recycled. I reported this to Skoda in February, and all I'm told is that they are aware of the issue and are investigating. This seems to happen on DSG fitted cars only. I do wonder if they are connected in some way - (ECU)?
  13. I can only comment regards my 2018 Fabia DSG. The microswitch is part of the gear selector assembly. Mine was replaced under warranty. The part alone is over £600 I believe. The exhaust had to be removed to gain access. As it's such a common issue among VAG cars, they have introduced a much cheaper fix by producing a switch which is mounted in a way whereby the original gear selector and switch remain in situ. The replacement switch is piggybacked to it. Earlier posts say the cost of the part is £40 - £50 and takes about half an hour to fit. It seems to have a good success rate, however my Fabia still has the issue albeit very occasionally. I would definitely check with another Skoda dealer or contact Skoda UK and speak with technical dept., as there's the potential of saving a lot of cash?
  14. Thanks to you all for your info - Now the piggyback switch fitment makes sense to me. I was assured that the selector mechanism fitted to my car had the new type of switch fitted. The part number is 6C2713041F. I don't know if the part number for the mechanism changed when the new type of switch was fitted to it, or if indeed it ever was fitted with a new type! The battery issue interests me though, as the garage mentioned something about the battery after they replaced the selector and had the P park error permanently. As for the !LIM problem, the garage said they have several Fabias with this, all DSGs.
  15. DSCFabiaSEL - Yes, mine is a 68 plate Fabia, and the first instance I had of this problem was at 68 miles, the day after I bought it brand new. Mine was done under warranty at no charge. However, the selector mechanism alone is around £510 ex VAT, so around £612, plus washers, clip and screw. Labour - hours! They had problems after fitting the new parts whereby the error message was permanent, so reinstalled the original mechanism - error message still permanent, so refitted new one and in the end managed to clear the message with the help of Skoda technical. I reckon around £1000 in total. Based on this, may I politely suggest that you get a fixed price in writing, just in case there are any complications. I am waiting for Skoda to come up with a plan.................. Gojkonjegofpas - Thanks for posting the VW recall information. I've read the symptoms and they say that the error appears whilst the vehicle is in motion. Mine doesn't do that, it's very intermittent. It appears when either front door is opened, key not in ignition. I've never had the issue whereby I am able to remove the key from the ignition without the gear selector being in Park. The piggyback add on switch 'fix' looks a bit of a bodge job to me (NOT your fitting of it !!!!!!), because if the velcro attaching the newly added switch to the selector mechanism fails, so will the switch adjustment? Out of interest, when it's dark, the green light illuminating P.R,N,D flickers when the side/headlights are on, but is solid when they're off (I don't have auto lights). Anyone else noticed this? Anyone with a DSG got the speed limiter issue - ERROR !LIM - happens very regularly after a stop/start event - ignition has to be recycled to clear error message and be able to use it
  16. DSGFabiaSEL - that's shocking. I'm guessing that there's a bodywork inspection to carry out as part of the service regime, and they haven't ticked the box as having done it? It's one of the problems of not having a proper service book anymore. On my service paperwork there are sections titled internal,external, under bonnet, brakes suspension and bearings, underbody and steering, other. All are ticked with no advisories. I don't know if this is a Skoda standard report or dealer specific As for the P error, £229 labour for 1/2 hour????? Sounds more like 2 hours. The complete gear selector incorporating the switch had to be replaced on my car. The centre console was removed, and the exhaust had to be dropped to do it, then set up on the laptop. This took longer than 1/2 hour. I understand that the switch has been redesigned so that only that part has to be replaced, making it much cheaper. Unfortunately, it has not fixed the issue in my case. It was rebooked to have the new style switch fitted, but when I took it in, Skoda advised that the new type switch had already been fitted as part of the gear selector. Hope you get a positive result with customer service
  17. Good Luck TimmyB - Replacing the the selector and switch has NOT fixed the issue in my Fabia. Skoda say they haven't had any failures on cars that have had the 'new type' switch fitted. Mine must be the the only exception - heard it all before. Waiting for them to come up with a plan................... As i've already said , the dealer says they've noticed this problem on other vehicles when door/s are opened. Symptoms sound different to yours? Let us know how you get on
  18. Glad that you've managed to to get it booked in under warranty and hope they fix the problem. The complete gear selector was replaced on my car, but when the error reappeared, the dealer ordered the 'new type' switch from Skoda, (which does not require the complete gear selector to be replaced), but found that the the new gear selector they fitted previously already had the new type of switch on it. I am still intermittently getting the issue, so I can only assume that the 'new type' switch hasn't fixed the problem (on my car anyway). It seems to happen when one of the front doors is opened. It's never appeared whilst driving. As an aside, If you have a speed limiter CallumJ88, it might be worth testing it before you take the car in. Switch it on, you don't need to set it, and introduce stop/start events. Error LIM! appears regularly on my car. The only way to clear it is to recycle the ignition. I'm told that Skoda are aware of the issue and are working on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Fabia 3. I still have the P for park issue, the car has the latest switch fitted. Happened again last week when car was unlocked after being parked overnight, and the passenger door opened. No key in ignition, closed door, fault went away on maxidot but stayed on infotainment system. Same thing occurred when I opened driver's door, Fault cleared from infotainment system after a few metres driving. I also have the LIM! issue and have posted on this. My dealer has several instances of this issue on Fabias and they are all DSGs. Could the two be connected?
  20. I have exactly the same problem as wantaskoda. This has been done by rubbing my forearm on the seal when exiting the vehicle. It has also worn through on the bottom edge where my foot catches it. Car purchased in December 2018, and noticed it at 15k miles, it probably happened way earlier than this. I've had loads of cars, 2002 Golf 180k miles, 2010 Golf, 140k miles, Ford Focus 85k miles, the list goes on - no door seal issues. I don't deny that it's a wear and tear issue. The point is that it shouldn't wear and tear with the use the car has had. I have a 2010 Fabia in the family, 125k miles - original seals.......Skoda not interested in doing anything under warranty, so I have purchased a new seal. It looks like they just push on without any need for adhesive or clips. Is that correct, any tips welcome ie start at top corner etc.
  21. A quick update. Dealer phoned me on 06/03/20 to tell me that Skoda were already aware of this issue and were investigating it. I asked for an update on 24/06/20, and am waiting for a reply. I have now proved conclusively that this problem occurs after a stop/start event
  22. I'm trying to use Waze on Android auto, but can't get any direction instructions through car or phone speakers. Anyone got any ideas on how to make it work please? Fabia SE
  23. I have a Mk 3 fabia SE 2018 with front assist, and keep getting the LIM! error. The handbook says contact a specialist. The dealer knows of 4 fabias with this issue, and interestingly all are DSGs. There was a code logged and subsequently sent to Skoda UK technical. Waiting for Skoda to report back to dealer, as there are no technical bulletins relating to this issue. The error seems to pop up after a stop/start event, but can't be 100% certain on this.

  25. My brand new Fabia presented this message the day after I bought it in December 2018. After several instances of it occurring, the gear selector was replaced in May 2019. The message reappeared in September 2019. Diagnostics showed the same error code as pre replacement. I am currently waiting for Skoda's response. It would seem that a 'successful' fix should only be judged if still fault free after 1 year or so and not before then?
