May be wrong but think, FSI - normally aspirated direct injection, Fuel Stratified Injection TFSI - Turbo charged direct injection as above ^^^ TSI - Same as TFSI but VAG has begun dropping the "F" Some of the smaller capacity engines have a Twin Charger, super charge low revs and turbo high. So realistically FSI, has no turbo and TSI/TFSI no difference either older engine code or particular mark in Group is adding taking the "F" out or adding in....... For the 1.8 and 2.0 engines older engines, 3 letter codes, AXX etc.., had rubber cam belts, newer, since (2008) 4 letter engine codes have cam chains. Other than cylinder spacing everything else is a complete redesign from the earlier engines. Loads of detail but the big one is the cam belt/chain. Chain is better than belt, other than that earlier and newer engins are generally well thought of.
  2. Had CEL on in the car, big thanks the Eddie-NL for the full scan and tweaking the cars settings. Now know I've got a duff H12 alarm siren to sort out as well as given me ideas on updating my CANBUS so I can get auto close on my windows.......
  3. Bought my car new 2005 done 94k now mixed of everything driving wise, currently on 3rd set of pads (2 changes). When did 3rd set also changed discs, wasn't that the pads needed doing but discs were getting marginal. Got to be honest I've been more than impressed with pad wear, not yet changed rear pads they're still original and still got loads of life in! I know that as it's just been MOT time as well as a service so made a point of asking them to let me know condition on the rears, answer from garage was loads left maybe half worn......
  4. If yours is a 2.0tdi BKD the EGR is located, as you look into the engine bay, right in the middle of the engine on the inlet manifold. When you look in you'll see the radiator and just behind that there's a gap with various pipes and bits, that where the EGR sits. A bit of a PITA to undo the rear most allen bolt as it's up behind with only limited movement using a standard allen key, much easier if you have a small ratchet that'll take an allen bit. This picture shows the EGR, inside the red box, after you've pulled the plastic engine cover off. Uploaded with ImageShack.us You'll see there's 2 bits, the top is the EGR and has the silver pipe bolted on the side of it, the bottom bit with the electrical connection is the anti shudder valve(ASV), DO NOT unplug the electrics from the anti-shudder or you'll need to have someone with vagcom do a throttle body reset. It's easy enough to clean there are 5, 5mm, allen bolts that hold the EGR and ASV to the manifold 2 short on each and one long one, the PITA one, that goes through the ASV and EGR onto the manifold, and the 2, 6mm i think, bolts that hold the big silver pipe on. Carefully undo them all, and don't drop any!, gently ease the little vacuum pipe off the domed bit you can see at the top left and that's the EGR off. Next get yourself a suitable sized pot stick the EGR in it along with some cleaner, petrol works well, leave over night and the gently remove and residual gunk clean and dry and simply refit. If its really bad could be worth looking into stripping the manifold off and giving that a really good clean at the same time. Hope that helps. If you decide to go for an EGR delete pipe I'd strongly recommend going with the one from Darkside Developments as at least with theirs it'll fit properly!
  5. It's the EGR that routes the soot into the intake, it has a pipe from the exhaust that allows the exhaust gas to be recycled through the engine. Found have a less sooty exhaust with the delete than as standard, no idea how that works! You will get the CEL light come on the dash though, but any decent tuner can write this out of the engine map. Can't answer if a delete makes the DPF better or worse as my 140pd doesn't have one...
  6. I tend to just drive around in D but if I fancy having a blast or just need to hold a gear I'll shove it into manual a select the one I want that way. Even do it sometimes when I'm playing for economy as in manual you can shift into gear a few RPM sooner :yes:

Well I've not been to an F1 GP before and am going to be booking tickets for next year at Silverstone along with camping onsite at Woodlands so will be there probably afternoon on the Thursday till the Monday morning. What I'm wondering is how any of you good people who been before would rate it for enjoyability for kids? My boy will be 7 1/2, the 1/2 is very important to him, he loves camping and likes racing I'm just not sure how suitable the rest of the event is for younger kids. Any offers of advice would be great! At the moment I'm sort of 50/50 on it with him as I know there's loads he'll be great with it's just don't want him bored or upset, want him to go and come back just thinking "WOW!"

Don't think skoda 140bhp was listed as having BKD engine in the catalogue I got but a quick call to them and they confirmed that the turbo was exactly the same on BKD engines regardless of the tin can it'd been bolted in. Give em a phone call and ask as it may just be that it's just not listed under skoda on their info.
  12. Turbo Technics list the AZV/BKD/BKP as using the same turbo but dependant on vehicle different OE part numbers. Obviously sometimes this might just be because VAG seem to use the same parts but just change the number depending on the model it's fitted to, but sometimes different models are using the same basic part, the garrett GT1749 turbo, but it has a different manifold on a different vehicle. You may well find that the turbo will bolt straight from one car to the other, with the use of a couple of new parts, gaskets and oil feed pipe maybe. Best way may just be to either ask your trusted garage or give one of the turbo remanufacturers a call. Only reason I mentioned the one I mentioned is because when my BKD turbo died earlier this year they were the company I chose to go through so I had their catalogue to hand
  13. Here's mine with an EGR delete fitted. I have an 05 140bhp Octavia DSG so will be at least a bit similar to yours. Delete pipe is wrong way round (made incorrectly......) Have since begun process to return and have refitted original which looks like the 2nd pic. EGR valve is sitting on top of the Anti-Shudder Valve off the car but picture is from the same direction that you'd see it in your car. Delete pipe, shows where the EGR valve would be located EGR off the car And what mine was like with 92k miles before I cleaned it In the top picture showing the Delete pipe, the blanked off pipe to the right is the feed pipe from the exhaust. I did try and remove this completely and blank at the exhaust manifold end but I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get the pipe out. In the end with the Delete pipe being wrong I'm glad I didn't as would have meant more work to get the EGR valve fitted back in place. As far as removing the EGR it's pretty straight forwards, so long as you get a delete pipe that's made properly, and the only downside is that your CEL, orange engine, light will come on. it's possible to get this mapped out by a tuning company or you could just keep clearing the fault code through Vagcom or a code reader. Running around with the CEL on won't hurt anything though the downside is if you get another fault your CEL will already be on so you wouldn't know.
  14. If you can be bothered to search there's a number of threads about the mirror glass peeling off. If using double side number plate tape make sure you get all the old residue off and degrease, or the tape will only peel again. Another option is something like Serious Glue, this is heat and cold resistant, @-35c - +80c. Wobbly mirror syndrome should be added as a regular quick fix guide!
  15. Common causes are poor servicing or just the way the cars driven. If the car is generally only ever driven gently, this could lead to a lot of sooting up of the EGR. Have you pulled the EGR and tried cleaning? A soak overnight in carb cleaner or petrol will take most of the gunk off this may free the mechanism. Worth a try before the cost of a new EGR.
  16. There's a good chance that now you've run up and driven the car the airs shifted about rather than being solely in the caliper you worked on. May well be a case that you now need to fully bleed the system, could be easier to just take it and have a fluid change done, should be able to find somewhere that does this for a reasonable price.

Okay so a while back I fitted an Allard EGR delete pipe on my 2.0pd (140), it's been removed now but that's another story What I'm wondering is how the he'll you get the pipe off, from the exhaust to EGR valve. Now I know you can just pop the gasket and blanking plate on the end of the pipe at the EGR end but, to me, it looked messy and I figured sooner or later that pipe vibrating about would shear through meaning I'd only have to do the job properly later. The EGR delete got all bolted up nice and neat, (after a fashion!), and I set to taking the exhaust feed off. There's me took off the corner airbox pipe bit at the back right so I can get to the other end of the pipe, get my nice little handy Allen bolt ratchet thingymebob and take out the 2 bolts securing the back end of the pipe. Even managed to do this without dropping them or their washers deep down onto the depths of the undertray. So now all I need do is give the pipe a wiggle and ease it out of the car before putting the nice shiny blanking plate and gasket where the pipe used to live! That's what I thought anyway...... So after a hour, nay even 2, of wiggling and jiggling, even jacking the car and removing the undertray to see if it would go that way, I admitted defeat and sulked. Then I put the car back together and just put the blanking plate on the end by the EGR. Now I know I said at the start the delete pipes not on there now, and it's not, so in a round about way not getting the pipe off did save me a bit of effort but I'd still really like to know.... HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THAT #%$€*+< PIPE OFF! So can anyone enlighten me how they managed it, if they did?

  20. Where about in Norfolk are you? I tend to go to Treadfirst or Bridge tyres in Diss. Got set of 4 conti premium contacts for @£300 not so long ago, fitted balanced & nitrogen filled. That's after I'd wiped out pair of firestones on the rears in less that 10k, not my first choice but was away and needed new rears in emergency to had to get....nicely sawtoothed and glazed, were hitting the wear markers before the Toyo's up front! Bridge tyres give a lifetime warranty too

  22. New discs and pads on front, good clean and anti-squeal/seize used aplenty! Time to get brake fluid changed too methinks.
  23. Octavia's are well known for having a quick groan from the front suspension, sounds a bit like the car has a bad case of the humpf about going over lumps! Tends to be the front control arm bush groaning can be "easily" cured by fitting after market bushes. I say easily as though not a hard to-do thing can be a bit of a pain.... Also isn't a definite sign of something needing doing mine has done it, off and on more so when cold weather, since new and hasn't yet needed the bushes replacing.
