Well strange predicament due to dads age and alzheimers diagnosis he shifted his car to me. Pretty damn nice car 1.8T DSG 2014 less than 20k, packed with as much as mine has and more besides like adaptive cruise, folding mirrors. Not sure I need 2 though longer term tho....useful for now though as my petrol vRS similar vintage really could do with a clutch <80k miles so I am grateful for it regardless ! Not exactly the slow option either, obviously not quite as good as a 2.0T but better economy. Bit weird having 2 such similar cars though not sure how I will reconcile longer term. Before this I was really more hoping to have an old Fabia 1 and make it petrol rather than diesel but thats gone now.

Once upon a time way a fabia vrs site with links but I can't tell you the address, it was something fabia vrs and maybe way back machine type sites will have info on the old site. More than likely look about here in stickied advices and will find it. Its quite a ball ache of a job if done properly, but then I had mine still under warranty ( way back to 2007-8) when I decided to do mine and properly terminated the ECU wire to the bulkhead. Out of warranty now obviously by decades just finding a way to the loom wire and spicing into it. Steering wheel and airbag off and other stuff, stalk removal, laying out loom, coding etc too. Its not exactly DIY, good idea to have done canbus electrics before or get someone to do it as they aren't exactly expensive.

As an ex vRS Fabia owner now with Octy but wouldn't mind having a Fabia like something at least as good as an RS again but not keen on diesel - thinking it would be nice to have an "other" car for when doing stuff on the Octy (needs clutch at some point) Are there ever any modified engine swap petrol Fabias out there like 1.8T or rare as rocking and have to make one Alternatively I guess having to make one but a reasonable effort and donor required and probably not cost effective against just say getting a Seat 1.8T? Was thinking of picking up a cheap as possible Fabia mk2 vRS alternatively even if it needed work, missed one recently went for very little due to clutch needed

Yeah I didn't put heat on it but balancing the idea that cost of labour isn't so much probably only be about £100 so my local garage is going to do it if its that much hassle That is absolutely grotty no wonder they seize ! Fabias don't seem anything like as bad, probably not as tight fitting or something. I looked at my garages original costs for other side when it snapped and I had company and needed it done more urgentloy - which seemed high but mostly due to parts. I'm supplying those now so will be all labour. They are all like nearly new parts I bought (boxed new but unused) opportunistically when looking for parts on ebay, so have saved quite a bit already. Sachs OEM front spring, monroe shock ( match what he obtained for the other side not my personal choice), top mount and bolt set, cost each something like £40, 40, 60 and 15 ( plus per garage having to cut off and replace the drop link that was another 15) Total of £170 in parts so paid quite a bit more from the garage, labour hence is the smallest part of the costs ! For the hassle as above quite happy to let them have it. On next job - still might brave on doing the clutch having done the wifes citigo so know roughly how to do..I suppose less likely to have bolts like this to face Clutch been feeling like its more at the tail end of its life though still pretty driveable moderately its just the tuning is a bit aggressive so if you are greedy I'm starting to feel slippage I've never felt before. The power does account for the 13.89 second quarter mile at Pod first time I ever drove a car there at least though :D

Thanks for like Adam F..... I think on consensus its being angle grinded off, I ordered a Febi one with next day only about 15 quid amazon if its hopefully the right one Garage MOT'ing today and they might do this for me and think will get them to change the leg as mentioned the pinch bolt probably swelled up in there.

If there still isn't anywhere I think I have a copy on my desktop. Does someone have somewhere to host it, prefer not to use file sharing of my own google or anything.

I'm thinking sometimes paying labour may be worthwhile, not worth pressing on with this? Stubborn bits on this 2014 car - as I mentioned on another post but feeling a little defeated which isn't usually me with cars: Top Bolt siezed coming off ARB drop link, probably easier cutting the drop links off now as the small spline is spinning now anyway/ not enough traction to force the nut free although its moved some. Even bottom drop link to arb nuts pretty tight, wouldn't crack normally with reasonable force, feels like it will need a long breaker bar just to crack that off :D Then I wonder if that could have the same issue. The lower pinch splined bolt is pretty solid rusted in - even though the nut loosened off easy enough so can get that off Tried a short while anti clockwise with electric powered impact wrench from spline side or lump hammering out from the nut side and its going nowhere....probably needing heat? Just losing will to live with it personally and thinking paying £100+ for my local man to faff about with it isn't a bad idea and I can afford it, especially with the weather? But will have to wait a month or so for their booking it in though should not need to do to much driving in the meanwhile....just disappointing as was hoping to get some improvement on the car this week....:(

Car parts are pricey and labour isn't free either? I've done shocks myself but had a look myself too at one side needing replacement and its seems a hiding to nothing....Fabia was much easier and confidence inspiring. Saved quite a bit on parts myself getting those new but....monroe shock to match the other side was done and a sachs standard sports spring. even so still going over £100-120 a side... bolt kit was a further £15 I think....they have to do the wheel bearings too mind. If that includes tyres too its not bad at all ?

Cost a bit not really - well not in my case as the kit was around £130 (new), bought a second hand "B" module for just over £20 as the kit as mentioned came with module A electronics which is for earlier cars ( I still have that available for sale I guess, it only works with the navigons). Good value I thought for a full wiring kit no messing about. Some are selling about half the wiring you need but seems overpriced, brand new wiring seemed worth getting the full kit. The £20 or so I paid for the sensor cutter even sold to get most back ( if I need one again, will buy again ). So call it about £150 even though I bought 2 modules, module A and B for newer and older cars? I had a fair indication of around £550 for fitting, long distance to them though and would also have had to say over + fuel, so also quite a commitment if not same day ? Already had OBD for coding. Also learnt the basis of the procedure - not as hard as other electronic stuff I've done on cars to be honest !

OPS error disappeared overnight and if you take out of gear it clears the screen after a few seconds so all good now This is what its like

I'm not sure....but the OPS issue seems to have resolved itself overnight! I think I tried a reset of info system but on stop/start from key since today no more alerts - seems all good. Thank you

Hi, This is a coding issue for sure but struggling to know the correct coding, wonder if anyone had similar. Put something in initially via ODB11 I bought a few years ago but some of the coding is a bit gray so got some VCDS help.... Seems like with the below added to 5F - it does finally show the parking as I've seen correctly on other units! Beeps and all. Its just an initial message Optical Parking System (OPS) currently not available or similar, you press ok and it just comes up with parking lines anyway and they work - show proximity to objects. So 99% there but would be nice if I knew which bit was the answer to 100% success removing that error? Pretty sure sensors and all work because it was beeping before attempting to resolve the visual stuff plus have seen logging and its showing values on each sensor confirming they work. Coding mostly solved, but could do with some small assistance but visual lines also showing. I think from diagnostics and rear parking all the sensors seem to be operating I think. As it was already warning when you are getting close and very close Now found following some adaptions it is come up and working correctly ( sort of)! I now have display lines that work along with the beeps. At some points it says "OPS is not available" I think each time the car stops/ starts - but still carries on and displays parking sensing anyway!?! Also after taking out of reverse it doesn't automatically immediately remove the sensing, I think it does momentarily if you move though so not sure if there is further coding for this. " The ones I turned on were menu_display_pdc ( did this before but didnt get anything), plus the threshold one, and the 0x0A were ones I didn't apply or couldn't apply for some reason before but now activated. May need some more experimentation depending on how much it annoys my wife.
