  1. I don't know of a mute button? I have always turned it right down, and it shows as muted, then. It took me a while to get the voice vol balances right. I have the nav set so it mutes the radio when she speaks - it is amazing how often it happens that something interesting is being said at that moment - like a joke punch line! Irritating - there you go!
  2. Like bilun, i would probably have gone for a Freelander 2, with all the disadvantages. Possibly a Tiguan - but I lean more towrds rough-road than tarmac capability... Hi Little-Brit from RogueBrit - i am just down the road from you - we need to look out for each other round these parts, where Yeti's are rare! Did you go see Terence at Progress? Roger
  3. Ha - was getting excited, thinking you might have had the front passenger seat out! I take all the back seats out fairly regularly, and use most of the other, fold down and roll up options quite a bit. I am always impressed at the design that makes all these things so quick and easy. It was a major selling point for me over most other marques, and other folk are always impressed when I lift them out like suitcases in 5 seconds flat (literally)! My only concern, when rolled up, is where the seat belt 'socket' ends up - I don't want it jammed betwixt seat back and bottom to damage the leather. If I am taking them out, I just ensure the socket is pulled to the outside.
  4. Most insurers use Autoglass, don't they? I use the NFU for insurance, and if you select - 'I want to talk about windscreen replacement' when you call 'em, lo, you are talking to Autoglass, who do all the insurance checking re any excess etc automatically. I had to have mine replaced a month ago. Autoglass did it with absolutely no fuss - I honestly cannot tell the difference. Mine also has the sensor etc - they do these things all the time. I hope yours works out as easy.
  5. Interesting TP, thanks. What's a 'Yeti Champion', I wonder?
  6. I think dealers get preferential treatment - both price and waiting time, for demo cars - I am not talking Skoda particularly. Then they are supposed to keep them for a period - I thought it was usually about three months minimum. Sometimes dealers take a flyer and sell their demo, and in that case it is not unknown for them to do a deal with the purchaser re a 'slight delay' in getting the amended registration document out. I have a friend in the trade who tells me this is quite a widespread practice. My own SNOW MONSTER ( I don't mind the name - my dad always said ' I don't mind what they call me as long as they don't call me late for dinner) was an EX-demo - and I was very lucky to find one of just about exactly the spec I would have ordered. Otherwise, I would have preferred to have waited, or I might have bought something else. It was, as it were, placed before me and I bought it - I have no regrets at this 'coercion' to join the Yeti community! . But if you can tolereate a few thou miles on the clock, it is a way to get a car quickly, and save a bucketful of money, in my experience, and I have done it often. It has an additional potential benefit, in that any bugs have come to light and got fixed. They do happen.
  7. I am thinking along the same lines as Graham. No comany is perfect - we will always have room to demand more. But here in the UK, and - I guess, for most of Europe - Skoda service is better than a lot of compasnies we have dealt with. Your comment suggests that in India this is not the case - in which case you need to let Skoda know, as Graham says. LET THEM KNOW! How will they change if enough folk don't tell 'em?
  8. You know, i was just wondering about whether to get the winters off - longer term forecast down here doesn't suggest it will be 'winter tyre' cold, although it could get colder mid month. I use this site, BTW, much better info than Met Office site, for me. Farmers round here tend to use it: My link Put postcode in and get good idea of 16 day weather, and straightforward, meaningful text, plus useful maps. As they say turning colder, I will leave mine on till end of next week, like TP. Mine are also bl***y expensive Contis, even more so, I think, in 225 V spec (all there was in 225 - five didn't leave that much change out of a grand) , so driving around in this mild weather, I am biting my nails about wearing off all that lovely soft siped rubber. I feel your pain, Mike. But the benefit of all this changing around is, we can keep things rotated, like crops, and even up the wear - without having to be reminding ouselves all the time.. Roger
  9. You'll have to hook it round the back of the passenger seat
  10. Thanks Johann - I had noticed it, thought my screen was fading or my eyes failing. Did I think of going in and changing it - NOPE. duh :|
  11. Thanks for that - yes, this seems one of the most rational write-ups as I have read for a long time, with a good overview of marques, and the detailed part covering the Yeti is both interesting and very positive. The reputation of our monsters goes from strength to strength. We are all folk of immaculate taste, obviously.
  12. I am really pleased your problems have been sorted. Sometimes, I find, you have to commit perjury to get best service - it should not be necessary!
  13. No - but that's not to say it wouldn't help in many off-road situations.
  14. I do quite a lot of off-road stuff - some of it over very rocky ground. A couple of secrets, of course, are careful recon, as Graham has said, unless you know the ground, and keeping the speed very low. But I have to say that the added protection gives me some more confidence over those rocks - I am very pleased to have it.
  15. It's always looked like a very surprised cockerel to me. I love my car, I live with the logo!
  16. Well, as you asked the question - functionality is great - it has many things that a Tom Tom does not offer (dvd/MP3 player, split screen with many options etc) and, particulalry, integration - with the maxidot, and the majority of other vehicle electronic functions. I came from several Tom Toms, for many years, I hated the Columbus at first through unfamiliarity, I love it now after some mon ths of ownership, and wouldn't be without it. There are a couple of drawbacks - no satnav speed display, no speed cams (as standard, at any rate) and the heavy price. But the latter can get lost somewhat in a 'deal negotiation' - it was in mine. The other functionalities I have supplied by a Road Angel, which knocks spots of other solutions, IMO. There you go - by definition, my own opinions.. I do agree with another comment about the cupholders: i think those the Yeti obviously reflect the fact that real Yeti's do not drink from cups ever.
  17. I came from a Golf Mk5, and have never regretted the change. Mine is diesel, but I don't notice any great noise, wind or any other. But I do not have bars fitted to the roof rails, so perhaps that's the problem. I don't know what that Satnav was - certainly not the Columbus, I don't think anyone could describe that as 'horribly plasticy'. I am puzzled by the description of the wing mirrors as small, and the adjustment as flimsy - all \i can say is that that is not my feeling at all. The matrix display was obviously faulty - the dealer should not give you a faulty car to test drive IMO. Impressions are all subjective, its true. Everyone has their own priorities, measures, and tolerance levels, so it is up to individuals to make their choices based on their own particular needs.
  18. Mike - that's ingenious - I am going to have to have a serious think about that!

Interesting - I thought i noticed - from memory so could well be mistaken - that if the wiper control is in position 1, with the 'auto' rain detect feature, and the wipers are wiping continuously, as they do in rain in this position, then the rear wiper functions just as if the control is in position 2 or 3. I hate it - this thread has reminded me turn the wretched thing off, thank you. When I want it to wipe, I'll ask it to! For a similar reason, as has been said before, I personally dislike the 'rain detect' system - I had to have it to get the rear mirror dimming, I believe. Yes - you can turn it off - but having it means you do NOT have the otherwise excellent variable intermittant wipe function. This still irritates me intensely.
  20. I agree with others - the facelift is a bit of an improvement. I also test drove the Tiguan - it was almost my automatic 'go to' car to replace my Golf, when I decided I wanted 4x4 capability again, since I have a very good relationship with the local VW dealer, having bought so many over the years. It didn't impress me at all - it felt completely competent, as most VWs do, but very bland and uninteresting. And, as has been said, would have cost a lot more to have less features than I have now. I did also drive, out of curiosity, a Toureg - in a big engine, Auto version - can't recall exact specs. That was not uninteresting, at all - blandness was not part of the reasons it was not for me!
  21. The two things I don't like about the current badge are, 1. Its size - it's too big for my taste, and would look much more elegant if half the size, so would the 'projected new one, and 2. The large number of them I have noticed (now I look carefully whenever I see one) that are deteriorating badly - some just around the edges (mine included on the back) and some all over (as has been reported here). Assuming that Skoda believes that folk look at the badge, they should ensure it is made to a quality that endures - nothing detracts from the brand as much as if all the badges look scruffy, IMO. I thought the grey one posted by Steve looked good! But I fear that green, even as displayed on this forum, is a big part of the Skoda trade dress.
  22. I think they look good too - nice design, not too 'flare-y' and have a finished sort of look. The conflict with flaps is one bugbear puts me off them - iI have the standard flaps and am not really inclined to do a lot of fiddling, as i know some are. There you go - nice job!
  23. Ha, Ha, ha - it would at that! The one in the picture does have a very distinguished look, no doubt!
