  1. Got home to hear that 1/2 the country was fooded, Great hot day for the MMS(Dacia tickets for me as well). track is used for the drives so no racing but I think you need to get there early if you want to get slots. The main area stands were not too busy and the staff were fresh so helpfull and freindly. Food and drink very expensive. It is all spread out over aa large area so be prepared to do some walking. overall a good day out and a chance to see some new models and get to look at most of the majors cuurent offereings. Skoda were pushing the citygo, they had a Superb combo L&K, the brown looks very good also somthing called the Mission L stand was gicing out freebees inc water on a mini convayer
  2. Had a look yestereday (too late to get a drive) they were showing left hand drive models. These are to be built in a new factory in India planned for Jan. Loads of interest and I think they got a fair few pre orders. If they get over any build issues from a new factory quickly it's a tried combo established product tweeked for the UK. .
  3. works for me copy below http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x225/jaf4636/Fun/
  4. you did not say viewed on-line you could have viewed and have had it delivered. If this was your first sight of the car then AIUI distance selling would apply and you could send it back giving you 7 days to negotiate.
  5. If they were like this when you viewed/tested how did you miss them?
  6. Just gone through the thead looks like this one is still there(prev post was feb) has the price droped.
  7. Bushes, shocks, springs, bearings, calipers, pulleys. are the sorts of things that might be ending their natrural life. I think it will depend what has been done during it's life and the last 30k-40k since it's first MOT. I have noticed steering wheels on Octavia and Superbs seem to show wear around the thumb area. Like you say up the budget into the £6k-£7k range and there are more <100k about but not many 1.8 L&K around. Also upping the money gets into dealer cars, estates and DSG. currently low(5k-7k) mileage so the 1.8 is attractive allthough the few around seem overpriced. This one might be a ok buy but not close/attractive enough to spend 1/2 day having a look.
  8. Thanks, looks like they may be home based traders no land line and post code is a house. Tax was cashed in mid may which ties in with 4 year lease car getting offloaded. if last history is 145k 12/11 then 148 for 6 months would not add up to previous rate. If it is a lease car how easy is it to get the detailed service history if they don't have it? Would a local skoda dealer be able to get it? or can I get it from the lease company? I think this is a Monday job.
  9. EJ08 VKA a black hatch L&K. 148k Wonder if this was anyones in a previous life http://www.hmccarsales.co.uk/used-cars/skoda-octavia-1-8-tsi-laurin-klement-5dr-slough-201221473659525 but google cache has higher mileage 156k looks like ex lease tax was out in May 12, 7 services would suggest variable http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:XXBbf3UXxUwJ:www.markdonelan.com/dispdetail.php%3FfldID%3D57392+EJ08+VKA&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk This is close enough to be worth a look,
  10. I am inclined to agree What are the reasons for changing. If it is a good clean well maintained motor it will have years left in it, if the known problem areas are fixed before they become a problem. (or have these been done allready like the water ingress issues) OK there may be some maintanence but you will have £10k+ in the bank to pay for those. If you want the new car feel will it come up with a top end valet and a bit of money fixing any niggles.
  11. Was that a local trade in? What about looking to take it to a dealer where there may be more demand to buy your next one.. Diesel v6 07 Autotrader not many £6.5k 60k with one asking nearly £9k for a 36k one V6 a bit steep on tax. K £270 we looked at a local 1.9 elegance 2004/54 60k £5k So I think you should get more than £4k for yours, unless it is the 2.8 petrol
  12. Skoda must have given it away, the indi must have still made some money at £12k, even at 20m that was a steal. Now if we could find a 1.8 L&K like that but a bit older we would be happy.
  13. £12k for an 18m old was a good buy, what was the retail on those at new , list was over £19k.
  14. Allthough not applicable to the 1.8 chain cam, with the diesel needing the cam belt at 4 years a higher mileage may have got/need theirs done on mileage, so you get a fresh 4 years, even on an <4 year old. If a car has been sitting on the motorway it will have had a changes of tyres but the brakes discs have been done more than once that may hint that not all the miles were motoorway. When we bought our 306 in 2000, we also looked at a BMW that had high mileage for the age but very cheap, the service history had 3 changes of brake discs as well as loads of other stuff(lease printout of all work) alternate work had been done in Edinburgh some in london . those motorway miles had been very hard on the running gear.
  15. £2k for a years motoring in a new car that cost over £15k thats not bad at all. I notice that Scouts have only just started to get reasonable second hand. I think the lead times, offers and more people using the brokers, is giving the nearly news a bit of safety but this drops off as you head to 3 yrs and the availability increases. Must get round to doing a plot of askings on some samples.
  16. Probably made a bit on the FRV. only has 20 cars, anyone fancy a bently for £7.5k http://www.harleymotorsltd.co.uk/used-cars/bentley-eight-fuel-injection-4dr-wisbech-201221473520312
  17. If you look at the newer end and look at asking prices, try plotting some. You get around £1k off for 10k-15k but it varies a lot when there are few examples around once cars get older or higher mileage that differencial drops and condition/history determines price. . I think anything around 12k-15k is average(ish) and not something to be too concerned about Remember a 3yo 36k car could have had only one service if on variable with a second one due soon Also likely to be on the cusp for tyres brakes depending on how it has been used
  18. Very tempted, but scared it might be on the verge of some big bills.( I will check the insurance later) I think the local that takes the trade cars that hughes selection don't want, is Timotor on new street http://www.timotorcarsales.co.uk/18278/timotor.htm they often have octavias with higher miles/older than hughes like.
  19. have you given up looking for a FL? remember thinking you got a good deal at the time. They have a 2010 DSG for £7.5k ,
  20. Thanks, We have been looking for some time, the current car keeps going but is tired and no toys, basic 306 1.9.. Been looking for an L&K Octavia and probably should have got the red one hughes had 08 40k 1.8 £7K.and ran that into the ground. Though we would look at a Superb, the mk2 hatch are still a little pricy, hence looking at the Mk1 Suprised to find one so local at a decent price(hughes selection sometimes have them), and then yours might come along. The Superb is probably a bit too big for dayto day but great for the longer runs, the boot not as practical as the hatch, but more about with the spec we want memory heated seats etc.might do for a couple of years.if we find a good cheap one. Need to think about overall costs, we run two cars both mainly for convenience. Not doing much mileage and getting 45ish out of the 306 on short runabout with the odd longer run. Currently about £500 on the drive and £500-£600 fuel but no depreciation just repairs. looks like one of these mk1 would be more, tax is higher with depreciation as long as nothing big breaks, More thinking neede, but it is time for some creature comforts in our car.
  21. there was a 200k+ lower spec manual on autotrader for £1800, looks like it has gone, it was there friday most 100k+ seem to be over £2k with higher specs . Localy there is a 2004 54 in acar2go(aston clinton) 60k just over £5k. (Elegance not sure what options) What sort of MPG are you getting?
  22. If the new model is priced similar to the current ones but they drop the discount deals, that should keep the current nearly new prices on the higher side. I guess the dealers will have to off load all the current demos and staff cars and replace with the new models so there may be enough to meet any demand off those that the new model is not suitable. If there are good prices on the new one it is more likely to impact the prices as the dealers clear the cars.
  23. http://www.amazon.co...S/dp/B005EGF3CA ok might not be the exact ones but probably about the right price £40ish how hard are they to fit?
  24. This a problem with cars these days, so many bits last a lot longer so the bills get compressed in later life(mileage or age). If these are the only costs in 4 years/55k, over regular maintanence you get will all cars, £500-£600py is cheap motoring, depreciation will be more on anything newer/lower mileage. never mind the risks of an unknown. With 20k-25k a year any investment say £500 is 2p-2.5p/mile for the year recovery. Agree get a cheaper place to get it mended and maybe even start to look at second hand bits for some repairs allthough the savings are minimal on some bits where the labour is the killer.
  25. The best value L&K 1.8 I have seen was an 08 40k(manual hatch) that eventaly sold for £7k(advertized) after dropping for a year from much higher. Since that one went prices seem to have held up on L&K's there are so few about. Similar money gets 2011 Ellegance. (skoda.co.uk, sort on age, parking sensors, 1.8, petrol, add leather to filter to mainly L&K)
