  1. No it's NOT legal. :thumbdwn: Read your highway code. Lighting requirements (113-116) : Directgov - Travel and transport Please don't do this as the fog lights are much brighter and have the potential to distract other drivers. Not only that, but it raises my blood pressure. Also note that they are not an alternative to dipped lights in the dark. I say this because too many people seem to think that parking lights can be used in place of dipped lights, rendering their cars all but invisible in comparison to those driving on dipped beam and fog lights. BTW, I have answered on the basis that you mean DRL i.e. Daytime Running Light as opposed to DRL.
  2. It's not so much the misspelling, it's the fact that it is very hard to decipher what you are trying to say.
  3. So could us Briskodians report offending number plates to the authorities, and would they do anything? I'm thinking maybe a central number we could send mobile phone photos to... Charge them all £60 and boost the coffers of the country.
  4. And my V3im only lasts a couple of days :D :D
  5. So true, so that is what I did. But it's another step that is not necessary on a DSG. ;)
  6. Just back from a week's holiday. Hire car was a 6 gear manual affair (Opel Vectra 1.9D). I cannot understand how anyone would want that torture of never being in quite the right gear for the situation. I got really "upset" at having to constantly change gear, and what does a 7 gear manual do to your sanity ... And until now I had not realised what a mess manual makes of cruise control. Even on motorway with cruise control, show the car a reasonable hill and it struggled to make it. Change down and the cruise control drops off. Thank goodness I am back at home and back to my DSG. It always finds the right gear even on cruise control.
  7. I originally changed to auto because of my left knee cartilage. I have not regretted it. DSG is so much easier in town, or in traffic (particularly traffic jams, and how common are they nowadays?). My knee no longer gives me problems. And cruise control has stopped the problem developing in my right knee. And saved me a few points in 30 and 50 limits (it is so easy to drift faster when you are controlling the accelerator pedal, especially if others are not sticking to the limit!). I would have thought DSG with cruise was a real boon to anyone with arthritis. In terms of a test drive, the Passat is a posher version of the Octavia. Both our local VW dealers had a DSG version of that, in stock. It is a very nice car, but has a boot which takes away from its practicality. And it is significantly bigger, so did not fit in to my garage without major re-organisation and risk of damage to the car getting in and out. About once a year I think I might like a manual, but then I drive my wife's car and remember why I don't have one. Gear changes are never as smooth, there is always the chance of a stall, or a missed gear. Driving through traffic is a real pain. Economy depends far more on the right foot than the left.
  8. Cruel comment to one who has on order another PD140. Skoda won't do me an L&K with a CR170, or a 7 speed DSG. But, it is VERY rare that anyone overtakes me. Love the DSG, far better than any other auto box I have driven. Sadly yes there are issues - slowing then trying to accelerate again, it has often still has the higher gear pre-selected so it has to think about it and select the lower one to accelerate again. Hope the new flappy paddles help on that one.
  9. Most car manufacturers' "build your own" web sites offer a very restricted option list. It doesn't make Skoda's any better, but Skoda are just typical of the industry.
  10. Has anyone tried this with the new Toshiba TG01? I've been told by Toshiba that it does not have rSAP.
  11. TOSHIBA TG01 is NOT compatible, according to Toshiba.:( Lets hope that the hack posted in http://briskoda.net/superb-ii/howto-get-rsap-working-columbus-rns510-using-non-compatible-mobile/131709/ will work! Dear Jim, Sorry for the late response however, I have been out of the office. Unfortunately the TG01 does not support rSAP and so it may not be what you are looking for. I can confirm that the Bluetooth profiles present in the TG01 are as follows, A2DP AVRCP DUN GAVDP HFP 1.5 HID HSP IOPT OPP PAN PBAP Normal Bluetooth connectivity will be fine however. Sorry if this is not such good news for you. Best Regards, Konrad Szombara Customer & Technical Support Service Manager Mobile Communications Division Toshiba Information Systems ( UK ) Ltd
  12. I found Octavia more comfortable - I do not lik ehte Audi seats taht slide a bit forwards under your knees. The Octy is very quiet, and mine is diesel. THe only real noise is teh tyres, and that is a problem for every car now.
  13. No, I'm afraid not. The brochure says " Whilst every effort is made to ensure its accuracy, the information in this brochure is not binding and is subject to alteration. Some illustrations in this brochure depict left hand drive models, with both standard and optional equipment shown. Please confirm exact specifications, prices and colour availability with your Škoda retailer who will be notified of any specification changes as they occur. "
  14. Hi servo, and welcome. You do not say what it is that you are looking for. Moving from a Focus you will notice a huge size increase, and the flexibiility that this brings. Without more to go on the best I can suggest is to go and sit in examples of each, and see where the bits you usually carry around will go. Test drive them if you can for as long as you can, to see how comfortable they are. Do it with YSO (your significant other) and any family you have, any golf or fishing gear or the like. Check the measurements and see which fits your garage or drive (the audi is bigger). Check what is included in the spec, and what matters to you. You will generally get more from a Skoda. I've uploaded a spreadsheet from 2005 (around the age of the car you are looking at) which has the then What Car information on both cars plus a few extra bits. I looked at both an Octavia and an A4 last time and for this change, and both times I have gone for the Octy. car dimensions.zip
  15. The Skoda helpdesk admitted their brochure is wrong. NO Octavia comes with any spare wheel, only gunk. There is an almost parallel thread in which I posted this: http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/spare-wheel-cost-option/150627/2/#post1756003 What sort of spare you get depends on the trim level of the car, but for my new L&K it will be a space saver.
  16. I got autoglym from the dealer on my car 4 years ago, and have been very happy with it. It clearly depends on whether it is put on correctly. The car washes easily, and beaded well with no swirls or anything but shine. I have just ordered it again on the new one as it has got me above top book for the car!
  17. I agree with the guys. It just keeps the temperature the same whether it is hot or cold outside, and therefore you do not have to muck around turning the temperature controls up and down. Even without the air con switched on it still does a good job most of the time in the UK, so for around 9 months of the year mine runs like that. Of course, every so often you have to put the aircon on to ensure it does not have problems. It's on my "must have" list for any new car.
  18. Just done a trawl of the internet about space saving spare tyres, and it actually seems as if us Skoda drivers are late to the party. Many others already have these awful things. Does not stop me hating them.
  19. And their posts go there and no one else can see them? Would we be able to nominate people to it?
  20. There is another thread going on discussing this too, entitled unacceptable practice. Within it is a post (#2) about Skoda Assist carrying spares to get you going again. http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/unacceptable-practice-skoda/151146/#post1755906
  21. How lucky you are. I have had something like 3 tyres ruined and 3 punctures that stopped me, in addition to a couple of slow leaks.
  22. My dealer has spoken with Skoda when ordering my new car and has been told that for an L&K, the ONLY option is a space saver. I had rung Skoda myself, and they say that whilst the brochure actually says that the car comes with both a space saver and a repair kit, it is a mistake and according to the phone call I had back from Skoda support, it will have to be reprinted! It is not enough of a problem for me to cancel the order, because as mentioned in an earlier post this is now common across most marques. BUT I am not now as enamoured of Skoda, who like to describe themselves as 'The manufacturer of happy drivers'. The most stupid thing is that the spare wheel well in the boot is unchanged, so it will have a space in it that is not useful. Regarding a wheel jack, if you order the factory fit spare, my dealer has confirmed with Skoda that it comes with this. Lets hope that Skoda look in on this site, and see the weight of opinion against them.
  23. Give me a proper spare tyre all the time. I agree that putting a canister of gunk into a punctured but otherwise repairable tyre is not at all environmentally friendly. I had to do this on a previous car. The tyre was ruined (even though it was nearly new) and the alloy wheel had to be cleaned with some pretty nasty chemicals. The tyre repair man rolled his eyes when I said I had used the gunk. Gunk would not have helped when I got a sidewall puncture that made itself known on the M1 at 70mph. Offside rear wheel, so changing it was not a safe option as I would have been playing in the traffic. Skoda Assist came out, but it was just over an hour as I was low priority. Spending an hour down the embankment at the side in the snow was the most exciting time of my life! However, change the wheel and I was off again. With gunk, would I still have been there now?
  24. I'm just about to order my second having had my Octy for 4 years.
  25. :thumbdwn: A BAD move I have complained verbally and by email to Skoda.
