  1. ^ + 1. You really need to start from a relatively clean engine etc to work out what's going on. Mine leaks from the rocker cover & I'm sure a really minor weep from the gearbox. Had a Mazda 626 quite a few years back that oil fouled the timing belt and that eventually resulted in slippage but luckily got away with it! As long as it's not serious most people tend to live with some leakage & on vehicles of an advancing age it's generally a given.
  2. Hi folks, just looking to buy in a replacement wheel bearing arrangement for the old mk 1. On line the VAG option seems to retail at around 70 to 90 quid. Obviously there are cheaper alternatives available but don't want to waste time/money in the long run if alternatives largely aren't up to much? Thanks.
  3. Hi, agreed a black cover would suit better. It's certainly a very nice/interesting colour and different from what I expected. Cool look enhanced by the wheels but guess I'm just traditional when it comes to the Fun look. Enjoy
  4. Yeah know what you mean mate, had my fair share of moments. Seems somehow worse in the Fun as we know the repair implications
  5. My old Favorit was a blackline and looked really nice when scrubed up. However it didn't seem to stay that way very long and so in some respects wasn't the ideal colour
  6. Hi folks, slightly odd request but my lad showed me a picture he'd recently taken on his phone camera, inside an old disused and long since abandoned hospital. On part of the picture there appears what could be some form of supernatural image and we'd like to enlarge/enhance that area to better understand what it could be. Can anyone suggest the best software to do this & if it's free all the better. Thanks.
  7. Careful Daisy - car derived van It's just like having your own big high vis jacket on, which can be an added bonus on our perilous highways & byways!
  8. I suppose it was a plus point for the older Skoda models in that fewer people seemed inclined to want to pinch them! Progession has brought with it greater desirability and the urge to defeat the security in place.
  9. Hi ya, a few years back the same thing happened to our Favorit and we got it running again with no particular after effects. Sounds like you've checked out the intake side of things and providing there's nothing of particular concern you should be fine. The localised flood we went through was about up to sill' ish level but that was enough for me!
  10. Hi & welcome from a fellow Funster. Agreed ebay is one of the best places to start and if you dig deep enough online you can still source Fun parts but availability will depend on quite what you're looking for. I'm slightly concerned as for domestic reasons I'm in the Fabia all this week and the wifes in the Fun. As she's really not sympathetic on the clutch front I'm hoping not to need a replacement by week end. If so she'll be paying
  11. Good news, might now be worth investing in a suitable cover just in case!
  12. ^ Agreed guys, supermarket car parks are amongst the worst offenders in this respect! I"ll never forget many years back I was out with my dad in his 120 and we parked in a medium sized car park with only one other car in it. You're probably ahead of me but as we returned yes the other car reversed up and hit the dear old Skoda. Takes a whole new definition of poor driving & lack of spacial awareness to do that
  13. Cheers mate, appreciate the gesture. I've seen the various different types and tbh prefer the yellow with glass option giving more natural light into the rear space. One day perhaps & thanks for posting up what you've found.
  14. Truckmans truckmans everywhere, but none cheap or near enough I suspect. Come on Rainbow you know you want to sell yours really!
  15. As Jonesy92 suggests it certainly sounds salvageable. The relative cost may not be that bad but as you say it's time & effort to achieve. I hope someone takes on the challenge rather than ending her days at the scrappy. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  16. Sounds interesting Max but you need to be a Freedom member to advertise in the appropriate cars for sale section of the forum. Unfortunately your post shouldn't be here but good luck anyway with the sale.
  17. As Auric suggests it's highly unlikely that all variables can be covered but will probably be a useful front end guide, especially for those less clued up.
  18. Take it neighbour's off the Christmas card list. Hope you get it resolved.
  19. Hi Liam, ref above Rainbow makes a very good point about the insurance aspect and if you are lucky enough to be within the younger age band certain mod's may well have quite an unhealthy effect on your premium. If you trawl e-bay you'll find many examples of cars that have had quite a few grand thrown at them, only to be re-selling at around 30 to 50% of the total spend value! If you've had a related advisory then lowering would seem a reasonable option and again would advise e-bay/other on line options to source.
  20. Hi mate, that's a cheap little Felly to start with and you deserve a thumbs up for what you're achieving on what sounds like a pretty tight budget. Lowering could be an option to consider but otherwise just be careful not to end up detracting from the look by trying to do too much.
  21. Yeah second that lemonvrs. The engine keeps on going it's just a shame the rest of the car falls apart around you!
  22. Having a 19 year old lad I do understand the financial burden that insurance brings and when he researches quotes he regards 1000 to 1500 quid as cheap as chips. To him it is but tbh I still struggle to get my head round paying out that! However to qualify he's already been involved in a multi vehicle accident and most of his mates have had accidents of varying nature, so perhaps some, not all, are their own worst enemy!
  23. My lad has a 94 MKIII Golf and yes the lower inner front wings/sills are now mostly just filler once we'd repaired the extent of corrosion + it doesn't return a great mpg but in saying that it is the 1.8 spi. Not one of VW's better attempts.
