  1. Ah ok, I see what you're saying & thanks very much for that. From what you've described sounds like our approach was ok. Really useful detail for others considering the same job
  2. ^ It was placed with even pressure distributed directly on the smaller dia upstand, opposite side from the bearing. Looking at the assembly construction I can't see a problem with that and driving wise there are no evident problems. If I'm reading your post correctly I can see why concern is raised.
  3. Hi, we pushed the bearing in on the press at my lads workplace. Handy to have a son in the trade
  4. A simply phrased response is invariably the best and is the least you deserved in this case Daisy
  5. Ooops, yes I suppose they relate to the newer vRS's
  6. Hi all, spent a fun packed 2+ hrs today with my lad replacing the front wheel bearing on our Mk 1. It was the first I'd done but it was apparent that some slightly specialist tools were necessary relating to bolt/screwed fixings etc. We had to improvise to get round this but with my cynical hat on, would this be VW's attempt to hamper the avid DIY'er? Or perhaps to dissuade people who may not be sufficiently familiar with the job in hand? Anyway having bought in the assembly, saved a packet on fitting (just our time/effort) + another step up the learning curve in my case
  7. Sorry to hear that but as Tech1e says many appear to be corroding out + the dreaded wear/tear. I don't like hearing of the potential demise of another Fun but equally appreciate it come's down to a question of economics. All the best mate, perhaps someone out there may want to take it on as a project?
  8. + 1 re: warranties. I suspect most people take them at face value not fully realising that many are littered with caveats and exclusions. I second much of what ScoobyChris details and keep a close eye on the forum as there appears to be some nice vRS's appearing.
  9. Some interesting/forceful points have been made but suspect we're progressively hijacking this post. We'll agree to disagree in this case
  10. Well said. I didn't add that previous to the Kindle incident the postie in exactly the same manner dropped a new extension lead through the window, the plastic circular type that reels in. That did result in breakage which at the time was formally reported but clearly didn't change/influence practice. I can't control what happens in carriage/handling away from my property, I can however have a direct view and reject what is poor unacceptable practice within my own boundaries! No excuse at any level of handling in my book and we shouldn't seek to defend/justify
  11. ^ +1. It would be an advantage for you to source from the forum if you can. Personally I like the vRS in the lovely metallic blue or the vibrant green (sorry can't be more tech colour ID'ing wise). Anyway good luck with the search
  12. RM fully accepted my complaint in this respect and admitted it should never have happened. I personally don't consider this to be acceptable practice when there was a straightforward alternative option to leave the package with a neighbour for my later collection. Great if you're ok with this, I however wasn't
  13. This is not necessarily a bad time to sell but unfortunately the timing happens to coincide with one of the worst and sustained recessions this country has seen in recent history. I suppose you may have to consider some price compromise but inevitably quality sells & this is real quality
  14. Very nice We had a 79 Mk 2 and travelled all over the place in her & spent little or no time on hard shoulder. That's around our outstanding mortgage value so sadly way out of my league. Good luck with the sale
  15. Having read his post I couldn't see any particular problem with aandy_92's request. Best of luck mate hope you can source something suitable
  16. Hi ya, I lodged a complaint with RM back around x-mas time when they decided the best way to deliver an Amazon Kindle was to drop it through an open window of a locked porch, falling around 6 ft onto a ceramic tiled floor. Luckily the item survived this trauma and I think RM was left in no doubt about what I thought of them & their service
  17. ^ +1. Hi & welcome to a fellow Funster! I've had the same problems at times with parts. My local VW specialist took 3 attempts to get/fit the right rear box. Yours certainly has a distinctive look and it's always great to see different Funs appearing. There are a few fellow owners on Brisky so plenty of help & solidarity. Look forward to keeping in touch
  18. ^ That's really nice in silver. The wifes thinking of trading the Fabia for one and most of the reviews/views I'm seeing on Brisky seem positive. A lot of technology packed into a little car!
  19. I do really like red as a colour option and the work you've done looks great. One day I'll get round to cleaning up the engine bay but sometimes the older Fellys don't scrub up as well. Spot on mate
  20. The Fellys I've owned tended to date around the late 1990's, so by comparison I guess anything around that age band & newer is unlikely to be carb'd. If you know the reg I think there are sites on line that allow you to check out the relevant spec but may not give sufficiently in depth information? You can tell by inspection but that may need a little bit of poking around and not all owners are happy with that. Add to the post if you need any specific information and I'm sure myself or other members will be able to help further
  21. Hi, my 1.3mpi Felly was ok'ish fuel wise but probably suffered slightly from being an estate, at times loaded up. To my surprise the 1.6mpi has been really good on the old mpg front, helped by the fact that my boy racer days are about 25 to 30 years behind me! What you're describing sounds ok and mileage wise with due care and attention 150k + is quite achievable. Check the timing belt status and investigate that tidying up issue a little further, as have seen a few examples more relating to covering up! If you get a good one you won't regret it. All the best
  22. She actually looks very tidy and should make someone a nice little car for that value. We've had an 02 plate for just over 3 years and touch wood can't complain thus far. Best of luck with the sale
  23. I've previously experienced disturbing price range variance with my Fun. A few months back AF actually quoted me something semi reasonable and with renewal next month I'm now waiting to see if they will still honour that value? Sadly around 4k for may lad wasn't unusual :wonder:
