  1. The problem with Whatcar is that a few issues down the road and they will totally contradict themselves. Probably make it their family car of the year! If there is any anti Skoda bias then it's quite recent as the same magazine loved the Fabia for several years and I think even made it their car of the year. I have driven all of the different contenders and am still glad that I bought the Yeti. Mine is more comfortable, quieter, better eqiupped................................................! OMG! I have just taken a look at the Whatcar website and quess what, the Peugeot 3008 is their car of the year! for 2010. The same car that came last in the AE test against the Yeti, Hyundai and Nissan last week. Watch out for the deluge of advertising for the 3008 that will be falling out all over the floor of WH Smith from the June issue onwards
  2. My old Octavia 2.0 TDi used to return a reliable average of 60mpg. The Yeti is returning 50mpg under the same conditions. Both figures are from the trip computers and with mainly rural commuting with little heavy traffic. The lowest trip I have seen was 47mpg but that was on a hasty trip via motorway to visit a sick relative. The Octavias figures improved once the car hit about 20k miles and if the Yeti follows suit, I expect to be getting high 50's in a year or so. Compared to my colleagues petrol Jeep Cherokee I am saving a fortune and the Yeti is quieter, faster, nicer to drive and more spacious.
  3. I bought an ex - demo Yeti myself and am expremely pleased. I avoided the queue for new and saved a few thousand as well. I'd ask for the car to be claimed back and then correctly delivered A cheque should also be forthcoming from the dealer representing the difference between new and ex demo prices. Failing that, get the dealer to provide a courtesy car until your shiny new one arrives. Don't settle for the simple paint treatment - that would be an easy get out for something that is surely down to more than just the salesman. Look out for the next thread from a disgruntled Surrey owner who has to return his new pride and joy. In anticipation, perhaps Skoda UK could provide him/she with one of their press fleet until their new one arrives. Whilst not wishing to encourage the milking of a situation, depending on how they play it, this scenario could either come out well for Skoda or quite badly. Best of luck and let us know what happens.
  4. At long last a comparative test that reflects my thinking. No hint of badge snobbery, just a realistic comparison. They hit the nail on the head about the Peugeot - a car that seems to have been designed by a committee that never met! Like others though, I can't agree with the criticism.of the ride - it is definitely one of the best features of my Yeti.
  5. Just noticed that if you are lucky(?), they'll post your comments twice but assign them each time to a different model. My original comment is for the 4x4 Elegance but they have duplicated it and titled it 1.2TSi
  6. One way for us to counteract the amateur journalist review on Whatcar is for us to submit our own reviews. A few more five star reviews will quite quickly overturn his two star effort :wonder:

  8. My '06' 2.0 tdi Elegance Estate regularly returns 60+ mpg equalling that of my previous Mk1 1.9 tdi. The bonus is a lot nicer drive with oodles of torque when you need it. In my experience dealers will talk down the 2.0 and try to sell you a 1.9. Still a good car but I think that the 2.0 is well worth the extra cost. Probably tempting fate by saying it but my car has just clocked up 30k miles and is totally reliable. There again the old one was much the same even after 130k miles.
  9. I guess the dealer may be covering his back. My wife was in a similar situation a few weeks ago and our local dealer would not commit to a new build date until he had a firm order with deposit. He said that the build may be as little as a month but could be upto three or four months. We also wanted a 1.9tdi Scout with the panoramic roof and were told by the dealer that we would not find an ex demo anywhere in the country. However I looked at Skodas own website over the course of the next few days and found one at a dealer within a couple of hours drive. Phoned him, sorted out the part ex of her old Fabia and arranged for collection a couple of weeks later. Now had the car a fortnight and love it. The best bit is that we saved enough cash to buy half a new kitchen for a car that was less than 3 months old and less than 3K miles. Not an '08' but a personal plate hides that. The Skoda website is a touch slow and needs patience. Ours was not described as having the roof but the pictures clearly showed it and this was quickly confirmed on the phone. Just taken a look and there is a silver Scoutster 1.9 at Dartford - hope that helps.
