Volf's Mk3 VRS Wagon
Not dead: Started new job in mechanics, after ditching IT support for the last 7 or so years. Enjoying it much more. VRS still going strong. Did have to change the water pump and timing belt, as the pump didn't want to be a pump anymore. Other than that, the Rotiforms suffering from stone chips and the rear creaks/groans over some bumps. DSG service soon which I can do at my new place of work, bonus having access to a four post ramp. Visited the Retro Cave/Retro Collective which the car went down well at. A handful of track days at Donnington and Snetterton without issue. Other than having the underside treated/sealed, don't have much plans lined up for it. Working on another wrap design currently for future use, may also change the wheels when that happens. So, just keeping it clean, looking after it. Knocking on wood, still not using oil yet 🤐

Volf's Mk3 VRS Wagon
Have returned after visiting Darkside to change the last remap and a DSG tune which REVO couldn't do. Very high EGTs to the point of being dangerous in the long run. (Darksides words) So Darkside did their magic and I came back with a bit more power and torque and safe levels of EGTs. In hindsight, should have gone there first to start with honestly. Also changed out the expansion tank for one without the silica bag. Wonder who at VW thought that was a good idea?

Darkside inlet pipe work, open cone and down below, stainless steel charge pipe with turbo muffler delete. Also off to Darkside in a few weeks for a custom remap. Lanoguard working a treat still. (Yes I'm aware one of the springs is upside down, only just noticed it months after they had installed them) Bonus looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong 10mm socket

Anyway: Hashtag Bring Back Neons. Had the front and back door speakers upgraded to Audison APK 6.5 and 165P, along with sound deadening. Everything sounds so much clearer and brighter over the standard drivers. And be strange. Life's too short.

No one said it was a criminal offence - It's a civil matter. Are you 'Most people' then? Because most people I've interacted with be it at shows, days out, charity runs, driving down the street or being overtaken on motorways, have been nothing but smiles and thumbs up 🤷♂️ Either way, I'm over the one ****e comment, because the huge positive response I've had since then has completely outweighed the single negivitive.

So the garage did not respond to the solicitors letter. I quote the following from the recording: "Is this your mate with the Merc?" "Definitely aint got any mates" "Nah the one with the Mario kart" "Nah this is just a wrap (My car) that was a charity thing (Guy with Merc), This is because I think he's a paedophile" Personally I think this says a lot more about this guy than it does me. Pretty funny when his own Facebook page has a post which says 'If you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you'. I was nothing but polite when I contacted and visited for the first time. Clearly, will not be dealing with again. Also means I lose out on the REVO sale then for a DSG map which they didn't have at the time.

Oh boy. Have I got a story to tell about my experience with getting it mapped. So much so, I'm seeing my solicitor this week about it. As for the REVO map, so far so good, but they didn't have a DSG file for my box. However, I won't be going back for it. Once I find out where my stand with this, I can share all. 🙃

Volf's Mk3 VRS Wagon
One successful track day at Snetterton with no problems! (Excuse the broken front lip, being replaced Monday) Partner misjudged a curb at a service station on the way back home from Scotland 🙃 Weighing up options for remapping and DSG map. Looking at OEM+, be interested to hear if anyone has used them before and had any thoughts.

"A great mind once said 'I'm not going to modify it'. And for he was right. For he was not going to modify it... someone else was going to do it for him!" Well with the Darkside Octi being stripped for bits because I've moved on (And sort of partly a blessing because ULEZ area and that car wouldn't have been a good mix!) I stepped up a bit and landed a very decent 2017 face lift VRS estate. It's very clean, low miles and it's been looked after really well. I had always been a bit meh about autos, but with such a heavy clutch in the old Octi and the M25 being stop-start all the time during home time from work, I thought I'd have another look at them. Took a bit of adjustment, but I'm quite liking it now. Not really used the paddles or the semi-auto with the stick, just slipped it into D and went on my way. Because it was so clean underneth and hardly any rust at all, I thought this would be the best time to try out this Lanogaurd I see posted everywhere online. So washed the under carrage, dried it out with the blower and set to work with the spray bottle. People didn't lie when they said it smells like wet sheep... Will report back next year and see if there's any change or difference. Other than that, I know I always say I'm not going to modify it to my parents... bbuuutttt... I did say *I* wasn't going to mod it, someone else will 😂

Skoda Octavia 3 Owners register
Oh look, a new topic I can post in now! Bought about three weeks ago to replace the Darkside Octi. Voted for a DSG 6 speed because I couldn't handle that clutch anymore in stop-start traffic for work! So far, I really like it.

Darkside tuned BKD 2.0tdi Skoda Octaiva - 2005
Make & Model: Skoda Octavia MK2 pre-face lift 2005 Colour: Island green Mileage: 160000 Price: Breaking - Price list to follow Description: Breaking as having replaced car with new Skoda Still has an MOT until 22 September. *As of right now the car is still complete and has not been stripped into parts* - 7/8/2023 Due to the number of things on the engine and gearbox, I would rather the engine go as one complete unit rather than stripping it down into parts. BKD 2.0 16V TDi – 02Q 6 speed gearbox Dyno proven 290hp/460lbft Looking for offers round £5000 for the engine alone. I feel that’s a fair want considering that doesn’t even cover the cost of the parts originally, only most of the labor and other bits which went on during its time at Darkside. Engine is complete with GTB2260VK turbo at 35psi with tubular manifold and braided oil line. New AMC head to rid the porous head issue BKDs are known for with new head studs to take the upped pressure. Oil cooler installed. 120% race injectors. ECU loaded with custom map (IMMO ON) Hardcut limiter. EGR full delete/valve and cooler. Aircon delete. Huge FMIC. Hard boost pipes. Decat pipe for said GTB turbo. Decat pipe for original turbo units using V band clips. 02Q gearbox has stronger selector forks and a Quaife LSD (QDF16R) installed along with Dark sides billet single mass flywheel and clutch kit which has covered about 30k miles. At the time of parking up, the car was running perfectly. Mapped to run with as little smoke as possible as rolling coal isn’t my thing (There is still a haze, but it’s not clouds of smoke) If driven carefully and off boost, you can expect to see upwards towards 70+mpg, if driven hard you’ll see about 40mpg. Being honest, I have beaten on this engine once up to temp and since being at dark side it’s never let me down. Never overheated, always had oil changes early (Because modified, DS recommends earlier services, also always changed the oil after track days) The starting from hot issue was resolved by Dark side (Another common thing with BKD 2.0 engines) The gearbox had started to leak about five months ago. I’m told this is a seal between the box and the engine block. I’ve kept an eye on the gearbox oil and topped up when needed. But I’ve not investigated this anymore, so might be the seal to the block, or it might be something else. Sometimes selecting 2nd to 3rd can be hit or miss if you’re really pushing it such as on track. I’ve never got to the bottom of this but considering this is probably the same original gearbox the car came with; it might be overdue a rebuild and some love. The rest of the car, plenty of parts still on it and interior bits. But due to the age, some of the rubber coating from the door handles/switches are going gummy and sticky. Body is showing signs of rust. Underside isn’t any better. Do have an android auto head unit, MOMO steering wheel with boss and quick release. Parts and price list. Unless you want to buy the whole engine as is has aforementioned above: Hewitt Industries 0-50psi turbo boost pressure gauge with line and nipple for EGR race pipe - £30 Darkside 2.5" stainless de-cat downpipe for mk5 2.0tdi BKD PD140 (Fits standard turbos with V band) - £100 Darkside hard pipe work kit for 2.0 16v TDI PD140 BKD/BKP (Very well used) - £50 Darkside Race PD140 2.0 16v injectors with Firad +120% nozzles - £500 Darkside GTB2260VK turbo for 2.0 16v (BKD), includes tubular manifold, de-cat pipe for the GTB2260VK unit £1000 Darkside Billet single mass flywheel & clutch kit for 02Q 6 speed (About 20k miles on it) £400 4 Bar MAP manifold Pressure sensor Small probe - 03K 906 051 £10 AMC complete cylinder head for 2.0 16v PD140 BKD / PPD170 BMN £500 (Still with engine) Darkside universal front mounted oil cooler kit - Thermostatic - £80 Vibra technics engine and gearbox mounts for Mk5/Mk6/Jetta/A3/Leon/Octavia £250 Genuine 02Q 6 speed short shift kit £10 Custom BYC rear wing, One of a kind £300 Freaky Parts big brake kit 4 pot Brembos 345mm vented disks £600 Metal undertray sump protector (Never fitted) £100 Turbo Technics S212 hybrid turbo unit (Less than 10k miles used, unknown state, may need refurb) £100 Original BKD 2.0 Turbo (Unknown milage or state) £50 Collection is preferred, can ship depending on part. Will update post with more parts as I recall if and when. I’m open for sensible offers on bits, but please understand the car is still complete currently. Unless you want to take THE WHOLE THING away and save me some time stripping it. It runs, but is currently SORN. THE TEAM DYNAMIC WHEELS ARE NOT FOR SALE. Doug's Race Blue VRS wagon
I've got some H&R springs to go on, 25mm all round. Have 12mm spacers from an old Octi which I plan to reuse and see how it all looks. But waiting for a dry weekend as no time during the week day!

Volf's Darkside Octavia Mk2 - End of the road *Stripping for parts!*
Well, it's settled. Bought an Octavia VRS Estate 6 speed DSG Quite happy with it so far. Have some plans, but none of them mean tuning the engine. As for the Darkside Octi, as mentioned before, it will be stripped.

Volf's Darkside Octavia Mk2 - End of the road *Stripping for parts!*
Well, I've decided this is the end of the Darkside Octi, moving onto something more sensible. It's been great fun whilst it lasted, but the bodywork is letting it down and the rust is starting to worm it's way through the sills, inside out. As it's almost 170k miles it's done very well for all it's had and I've enjoyed every moment of it. As no one will buy a pre-modified car, I plan to strip it and sell the decent parts, engine, ECU, turbo, 4pot brakes etc and scrap the shell.
