  1. ..had my Yeti for 3 years and the stop start has hardly ever worked. Although I prefer it that way as I believe it to be largely a "con" to help the manufacturers achieve an arbitrary numerical target of limited value in the real world. (If I could find out how to permanently disable it I would gladly do so). Saying that, as it was originally under warranty and I had a problem with the rear wiper I got it looked at under warranty anyway. They tweaked some settings, but despite that it only ever seems to work after a really long run, (60+miles). I understand that there are some factors that come into play for it to work such as battery condition, engine temperature, load on the battery etc. Personally I am not bothered that it doesn't work very often as, ( if I remember) I always turn it off when I get in the car anyway...but that's just me...my best guess would probably be battery condition? (Although even after I have had the battery on charge to full it still doesn't function when I then take it out for a drive).

..unlikely, plenty of threads on this subject. Skoda don't seem to recognise it as being their problem, (which it obviously is). You would probably be OK under 3 years old, and you "may" be able to get a contribution if it has been regularly looked after by a Skoda / franchised dealer but at 4/5 years old i would not hold my breath.... Previous threads give options for a "DIY" fix if you think you are able to have a go yourself?
  3. If we were still working and commuting 20/30 miles a day then a hybrid would be ideal. But I think that's the problem (for us), with hybrids as we no longer have a "proper job" and when we do go out we tend to do a lot more than the "electric only" range. I am not convinced of the "benefits" of an IC engine that is used to charge a battery to then drive the car, although I can see that any "recovered" energy from braking is "free", but not sure how much of that you actually get on the average drive? I accept I may be missing something, but for the majority of our journeys I can't really see any benefits of the extra expense and complexity a hybrid offers. For most journeys we could probably get away with something "all electric", but then there is the problem with journeys that exceed the maximum range?
  4. Hi..and ta for the update...CETV = Cash Equivalent Transfer Value...ha ha ...should have said CVT!...also not sure I see the point of a hybrid for the sort of journeys I do? I have a friend who has a Yaris hybrid and they achieve less mpg than I get out of my Yeti!
  5. ..ta for the tip....unfortunately I am not a fan of CETV autos.
  6. ..sorry to hear about your current problems, another casualty of Covid! Hopefully things will return to normal once vaccinated....I wonder if they do a vaccine for yeti's.. .....failing that a good run when the weather improves. I am still looking for a suitable alternative to replacing mine, although no rush now due to lockdown number 3 (or 4? / 5?...I have lost count). Although I said I would never buy French the newish Pug 2008 looks appealing and has some good reviews...also started to look at reviews for a Kamiq. Once I decided i was not that bothered about AWD the number of options opens up dramatically!...at least I have got loads of time to do some research...

Hi PP, and thanks for taking the time to reply. Never looked at the residuals...quite scary!!..not sure I would like £4k per year depreciation...shame as apart from being a little "fugly", the SX does seem a better car, a bit more upmarket and a little bit bigger than the Vitara..:( ... Interesting that my 5 year old Yeti is a similar value to a 2 yr old Vitara!.....I would definitely consider an SX if I could find a 2 year old one for £11k!..there is one in our local main dealer that is the right spec but they are asking nearer £20k...
  8. Overton Service Station 5.0 (8 Ratings) | Write a review Hereford Rd, Ludlow, SY8 4AD Directions Tel 01584 872584 Hi OP...details ref Overton Service Station...... NB Do not be put off by the slightly(?) cluttered forecourt, (they have very limited space)....Phil is your man!! (When I was looking he even phoned me back on a Sunday afternoon...I think he lives there ....
  9. OP, I note that you are in Wolverhampton?..if you are looking for another Yeti there is a really good indy dealer based near Ludlow, (Overton) that specialises in Yeti's / Skoda, and when we took ours in for its service last week his forecourt was chocked full of Yeti's. He has a really good reputation locally but they do not operate a web site so they must sell all his cars via word of mouth? Perhaps not the tidiest of forecourts but the chap (Phil) is ultra friendly and helpful and seems to really know his stuff....may be worth a call to check his "stock".

..been having a look at Suzuki Vitara and SX4 today...seem very similar, but SX4 seems a bit more "up market" inside. Does anybody who has had a Yeti and gone over to the dark side and got either of these have any views on them?? (Would be a 1.4 Auto, AWD version...probably!?

..not aware of any specific problems on either the 122 or the 150?....I am aware that some of the earlier 1.4s with "double turbo" (?) models had a habit of failing big time, (don't think they were ever fitted to a Yet though). Also note that Audi use a 1.4 with "cylinder on demand" technology but don't think that was ever an option on Skoda's ?

..can't comment on the 170hp, but I currently have a 1.4 (150) tsi and it's a brilliant engine. Previous to this I had the 1.4 122 hp engine in an Octavia, and prior to that I had a 2.0ltr diesel Octavia. Both 1.4 engines are a "peach", plenty of power and torque, and very similar in "feel" to my previous 2.0ltr diesel. My current 1.4tsi seems to perform really well with plenty of torque and is also very quiet compared to the diesel. (Also returns over 40mpg if driven carefully, (AWD)). In short I would have no hesitation in recommending the 1.4Tsi....only problem is finding one? I struggled when I was looking.....

...for me I think Honda (designs), lost the plot a while ago....and as for CVT...no thanks....(again I accept that is just my view...CRV is OK but just a tad on the large size for me). I like the look of the new Volvo smaller SUV...but being new a premium price. May have a look at the Mazda CX30, just that Mazda seem to prefer more cc's rather than small engines with Turbo's..

..ta for the Kia heads up..just had a quick look. Amazing how their prices have gone up! £27k+ for a decent spec. Not too bothered about another 4*4 now, think I would rather save some money and just get a decent set of Winter Tyres for the white season...just wished they had made the Yeti for another year or two!

..still looking to change mine, originally planned to earlier this year but then something got in the way. Just coming up to 3 years of ownership, (car 5 years old). Just booked it in for it's annual service and MOT and noted (like most people), that we have only done 3.5k since last year! (Been advised I need to replace the rear brake discs even though the car has only done 25k miles, but I understand this is normal and probably due to lack of use, and I am a very gentle braker, so been advised to drive with the handbrake on occasionally). Still struggling to find a suitable alternative though. The indie I use for servicing has a nice low mileage 2017 1.2 SEL dsg in stock but price seems a little high, and next month it will be "4 years old", (which is a little old for me). However I still haven't found anything I like as much as the Yeti. I am still considering a Vitara, but few and far between, (AWD auto, non hybrid). Have considered the S Cross...but a bit "fugly"? I also think the T-cross is a bit too basic and did consider the Audi Q2, but these seem to be silly money. Running out of options really!...any other suggestions welcome!!

..I have a 1.4 LK and love the engine, but if I was buying now I would go for a late 1.2 petrol SEL Drive with DSG....I think the later wet clutch boxes are more reliable (?), and the SEL drive has all the toys but no pan roof...
  17. ..what will happen to all the caravans when the IC engine is no longer an option?....
  18. ..I was quoted £750 for a towbar when I got mine, (main dealer)....in the end we did not bother as we gave up the idea of caravaning anyway!

..my Yeti is now approaching 5 years of age, but still under 25k miles. Ever since I had it the "stop start" system has seemed very reluctant to work, (which I am pleased about as i think they are a complete waste of time). I have a "plug in cigarette lighter" battery checker and it never shows much above 11.5 volts when I check it so I assumed the battery is almost gone, but it has been like that for almost 3 years now! I have kept it "topped up" during lockdown and it always seems to start OK. When the time comes I would be happy to go to our local indy dealer to fit whatever battery he recommends. On most cars I have owned the battery life has been 8+ years, (MX5 13+ years, and pre all this stop start crap), but happy to pay the going rate to keep the old girl going when the time comes!
  20. Once again thanks for the latest vid. I have been looking to change my Yeti (AWD) and have mainly been looking for an awd auto as a replacement. But seeing these vids it now makes me think that it would make more sense to just go 2WD and fit Winter tyres. This would open up a larger selection of cars which would also be a lower cost in terms of both initial purchase price and running cost, (mpg/servicing). I think it was the "braking" example that impressed me most, and if the weather is really bad I don't normally have to go anywhere anyway so AWD is probably a luxury I no longer need?
  21. ..many thanks for posting the vid....always assumed winter tyres were "probably" the best option, but now it's confirmed...although I guess awd AND winter tyres would be the dogs dangley bits!
  22. Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of Yeti.... It is worth noting that when the main dealers service the Haldex they would not normally take the filter out and clean it. For that reason I took mine to a local indy specialist and asked them specifically to change the oil and remove and clean the filter....I think they charged about £70 for this....and yes if it were me i would get it done given the horror stories i have read on this forum!.....and make sure they use the correct drain plugs as per another recent post! ...enjoy your Yeti

...sorry, should have added 1.4. petrol, up to 2 yrs old, and awd....

Hi all, was fully intending to change my Yeti this year as I need an automatic, but at a complete loss as to where to go now. In reality we have only done a couple of thousand miles so far. I was originally looking at a Seat Arona but not that keen. I also fancied a Suzuki Vitara as they offer a none dsg auto variant which appeals, however these seem to be almost as rare as my Yeti when I was originally looking for one, (do not want a hybrid which all the new Vitara's are now). Now looking at the Suzuki SX which I believe is the same basic running gear as a Vitara but is a little bigger and there seems to be better availability for this model? (Although not that keen on the front end looks, but when I am driving it I would not be able to see it ). Just wondering if anybody has made this "swap" and would be able to comment. ...my Yeti is coming up to 5 years old at the end of this year but has not yet hit 25k...so may end up keeping it if I can't find anything suitable.
