  1. Spotted this and thought it worth a post. Personally, I love a good euro road trip... Especially in a nippy Skoda! http://www.carthrottle.com/post/10-things-i-learned-on-a-2000mile-european-road-trip/
  2. Did they remove the seat when they run any wiring forward into the cabin?
  3. The paint may be slightly more towards the softer end of the scale than hard but id certainly never describe the paint as 'thin'. It's probably the best paint I've had on a car to date in fact.
  4. WHen you say the paint on your car "seems thin", how are you coming to that conclusion? Have you used a paint depth gauge to confirm this?
  5. I thought that was only the mk2 L&K specifically but this is a totally different Columbus system to what was around in the mk2 Octy/superb
  6. But that isn't regarding your specific model is it? The book covers all options as mentioned within.
  7. Theres no Elegance trim level for the mk3 nor 170ps unit so it's a mk2 Superb.
  8. that's Simpsons isn't it? Is rather go for a mk3 for that money personally but I guess it's a fair price for what it is.
  9. out of interest, did both them have the same or different tyres fitted? ive just done another back to back test with the Leon, Golf and Octavia and the Octavia was definitely the noisiest in the cabin over the same route, surprisingly, more so than even the Seat. To me it mainly sounded like tyre/road noise. On a good surface it was fine but on the bad stuff it was considerably worse than the Leon and Golf. Having said that, Yesterday I took a Cupra 5dr hatch out on the same roads again and even that (with its wider tyres) sounded nicer in the cabin than the previous Octavia estate. When I say 'nicer' I mean as if it was managing to filter out more of the external noises. Maybe the Octavias bigger internal cabin and boot capacity actually works against it in this respect?
  10. I found I get the best mileage from Michelins tbh. They are a great allrounder. Not tried the Dunlops but a friend put them on his Beemer and was very impressed with them. I'd be interested to hear how you feel they compare once you've had some miles under the PS3's
  11. They map to the same as they are the same hardware components. I used JabbaSport for mine and they quoted the same. Nowadays I'd use Shark (nothing wrong with the Jabba 1.8t map however) and they also quote the same.
  12. My personal favs on the Yeti are Michelin Pilot Sport 3's for summer and Michelin Alpin for winter use.
  13. anything you can add at the ordering stage with a normal dealer can be added via the broker... As effectively you are dealing with a normal dealer!
  14. thats not correct im afraid as I've looked at multiple VRS and 4x4s back when I was buying mine and they all has KO3s units. The differences come purely from the Ecu mapping. Block, injectors etc are the same and are capable of the same when mapped.
  15. from them and also via their dealers I believe. Which in my mind makes it an absolute bargain, given the quality of the software. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/367217-25-off-stage-1-and-2-remaps-at-shark-performance-dealers-through-august/?hl=%2Bshark+%2B25%25
  16. its a taxi. Good cars for the money they are available for
  17. Really? I thought they got a 1.8TSi 180. Personally ive always preferred the 1.8 over the 2 litre unit for smoothness (ive had VRS 2 litre and 1800cc TSi units but in a big car like the Superb Id probably go for the additional power and torque
  18. The Octavia is far better than the Rapid on all counts imo so if the pcp figures are similar don't think twice about it. The Rapid is built on an old platform and to a price. If you can pick up a new one for 10/11k then they make a lot of sense but compared to the Octy they are dated and slightly crude tbh.
  19. If it was my money id put it on a Mazda 6 MPS. Awd and 260bhp. A very underrated car imo and tweakble.
  20. Pretty much a day but as its only once every 12 months for the above routine, looks great once done and protects the vehicle that I've put a lot of time and money into - it's very much worth it imo
  21. One thing I did notice over the last weekend in Wales was that the paintwork wasn't beading as well as it did previously. The Collinite has been on there for three months so I thought it time to do a full strip down and reseal of the paint work. Timed with a day off before heading back to work and dry weather over head it made sense to get it done now and before the next road trip. Routine was: Jet washed on a low setting APC around sills and specific attention to wheelarches/underbody areas Tar and bug remover on the stubborn spots down low. Jet washed sills etc on a low setting 2 x washes with G3 Body Prep Shampoo using 2bm + grit guard + Meguiars lambswool mitts Jet washed on a low setting G3 Clay Mitt and Sonus Glide (despite what most people say, i'm not as impressed with the mitts compared to the clay bars, mainly for the stubborn bits of debris) Washed with Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo and mitts Dried with Sonus Wunder towels and Meguiars Last Touch. Mer Car Polish Collinite 915 wax Alloys resealed with two coats of Poorboys wheel sealant Pack it all away, collapse on the sofa with a cuppa and a bar of Cadburys jelly bean and popping candy Marvellous Creations chocolate!!! Job done.
  22. I have thought about it but it's five hours away from our friends place and not sensible for the planned route. We'll probably be heading back to them for Christmas and we usually stay over for a few Christmas markets whilst journeying to them. I hear Nurburg has a nice one....!
