  1. To put the topic to bed, I looked at the Policy wording of four Car Insurance Companies. ADAS only featured in one, Company X. That said, Company X defined the obligations that it had to the Insured that it would pay for (repair, test, re-calibration etc) if the car had been in any accident that would have affected the ADAS system including Windscreen mounted ADAS components. I am looking at using a different company for this year's Car insurance and looking at the "Fine Print" (I really need to get a life) I came across the following clause: "Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS) When using a car fitted with ADAS, you must follow the manufacturer’s instructions and load any software and/or safety related updates. If you don’t, your insurance won’t be valid" Would this mean that a "re-calibration" of the ADAS is essential after any malfunction? Regards retiredbri

Hi all From what I remember from college days (just after the introduced the abacus!!), an electric motor has a "static" resistance (the copper windings and brushes) and it measured on a ohm meter PLUS AND IN SERIES WITH a dynamic impedance (because it has copper windings on an iron stator/armature) called an inductance. As the rotates, it generates a "back-emf" (that tries to balance out the supplied voltage). It can therefore be considered as a complex non linear resistance. So, the pump rotates at a no load speed where the "back-EMF" balances the 12V input and the current is measured (called the no-load current). When it is connected to the tyre, the speed drops, the back-emf drops, the dynamic impedance drops and the current increases. The tyre inflates and heat is generated due to the electrical resistance (like an electric fire) and because the pump is doing work (like the end of a bike pump when you blow up the bike tyre). retiredbri

  8. Hi, mine has the sealant but it expires in 2020. I had a pump from my previous car, It works fine and has the benefit of a Thumb Lock Lever Connector (much better then screw connectors that loose air when screwing on an off) It was a DBPOWER 12V DC Portable Electric Auto Air Compressor Pump to 150 PSI, Tyre Inflator with Gauge, 3 High-air Flow Nozzles & Adaptors for Cars, Bicycles from Amazon. See the reviews for this and similar.
  9. Hi all I've got the pump that was included in my 2016 Superb. I've tested it by plugging it into the boot 12V socket (engine not running). Turned pump on and it ran fine. Covered nozzle with my finger (inside a thick rubber glove) and the pressure went up immediately to 30+ psi. No overload, no fuses blowing. Repeated it with nozzle covered before switching on and same result. Didn't have a current meter. The pictures show the details of the pump. Hope this helps.
  10. I did the update to my Columbus with the 2019-20 maps on Tuesday. I was on the drive with my intelligent a battery charger connected. It worked first time and took 38 mins. Looks like before but I did notice that when selecting a destination, it showed the Country as "UK" . Never saw this before (car was second-hand). When I started to enter W then O (for Worcester) most characters were greyed out and once I entered R it focused on Worcester. Not tried Post codes yet.   11. I have only recently acquired the 2016 Superb (boot label says Engine CZEA ?). It has now done 27000 miles. The Service Record has an entry at 17035I miles (car 2 years old) for "Carried out Flush" (£21.60) plus "Engine Flush" (£4.20) and "Petrol Injector Treatment" (£4.20). My previous Octavia 3 (1.4tsi, DSG Petrol) had done 67,000 and never had any such work. Any ideas as to why such work would have been done? Regards retiredbri
  12. Hi Nick Similar mileage to my recently acquired 2016 Superb. I'm really confused because on my my previous 2014 Octavia 3 (1.4 TSI DSG petrol), I was told 5 years or 70,000 miles. The transmission code the Superb boot label. Can anyone tell me if this a sealed DSG or one that has to have the oil changed? Regards retiredbri
  13. I downloaded the HIGH12_P177_EU_201920.zip (about 25.3 Gb) and the extraction to the 3 files MiB1, Mib1, and metainfo2.txt took about 35 mins. Is this what others found? I started to copy the files onto my 32Gb Sandisc Extreme SD Card (used for my HD Video Camera) and it said over 1 hour for the MiB2 folder and about 2hr 55mins for the MiB1 folder. This was not what I expected. The file data transfer rate was about 1.8 - 3 mb/sec. MUCH TOO SLOW. I cancelled the transfer and went back and reformated the SD card. I noticed that the "Allocations Unit Size" was set to 32Kilobytes. This was because the SD card had been formatted by the HD Video Camera and was optimum for real time video transfer . I changed it to "Default Allocation Size" . MiB2 then took 3 Mins, MiB1 about 9 mins with a transfer speed of about 35-45 Mb/sec SEE Screen Shot attached: Just wanted to let you know that not all "Format" operations are equal. NOW a question. The Skoda Portal says: "The SD card can work with just one map. To avoid unnecessary downloading, please check your map version in your navigation system." I don't want all of the Europe maps.   14. I'm about to update my Columbus on my 2016 1.4tsi DSG ACT. Can I do the update at home with the engine not running but with the ignition on AND with my intelligent a battery charger connected? Or does it only update with the engine running. I don't do many 45 minute journeys. Retiredbri
  15. Have you tried to to connect the inflater before you screw it to your valve/tyre. It could just be the motor in the inflater is stalled because of the back pressure on the compressor/piston? regards retiredbri
  16. Thanks Colin for such a site that's essential for Skoda owners. Ahem! I did say "The part number is RBP864 (it says it is for a Superb 4DR Saloon 6-2015>) but it is really for the hatch)😥 The possible reason for the higher price is that it covers the rear lip and being moulded ABS, the larger jig has to be heated over a larger area. Just some thoughts? Regards

  19. But, having been independent all our lives and frequently travelling with our young grandsons, the £58 (part used) cost was a good investment.
  20. When we had the previous Octavia we got a Boot Sill Protector from Richard Grant Mouldings (Leighton Buzzard). Having just acquired a second-hand 2016 Superb, the boot sill showed signs of "use". In particular, the edge had a few dings. We were pleased that the company had one for the car and, because it is griped under the rear rubber seal, fitting was a doddle. Very tough moulded ABS with 3M double sided tape already stuck to the guard, it completely covers the rear edge. Very reasonably priced, in black plus 3 other colours. The part number is RBP864 (it says it is for a Superb 4DR Saloon 6-2015>) but it is really for the hatch. Regards retiredbri
  21. Thanks We are both in our mid seventies and rely on Skoda Assistance/AA to remove the punctured tyre off and the Space Saver Spare onto the car. The punctured tyre then goes in the spare wheel well. The garage then takes it out and either mends the puncture/gets a new one if it can't be fixed. As retired people there two things we have learned: 1 Only spend money when you gave to (we can't go out and earn more) 2 Keep everything as light as possible Regards retiredbri
  22. I’m going round in circles (no pun intended) with Space Saver tyre sizes. One is advertised for the Superb with 18in wheels has a T125/70 R18 tyre. The outside diameter of tyre is 630mm This is 5.5% less than the car’s 18in wheels with 235/45 18 W tyres. Talking to a Space Saver manufacturer he says that this is OK but keep the journeys down. They do 17inch with a T125/90 R17 tyre and 18inch with aT125/70 R18 tyre. Both have tyre diameters of 632mm. There is some good news. If this Space Saver could be used, it easily fits in the spare wheel well!!! Any comments please would help. Regards retiredbri
  23. Hi all. I’m new to the Skoda Superb forum but not to briskoda because we had an Octavia 3 before, bought in 2014. We’ve now got a Skoda Superb SEL Exec 1.4TSI ACT 150 PS DSG 5 door Hatch in Candy White. The wheel size is 18" and the tyre size is 235/45 18 W. Like many others, it only has Goop to solve a flat tyre problem. Analysing the punctures over 70K miles in the Octavia, (we live in the country) out of 5 punctures, 3 were to the side wall so no joy with Goop. I’ve seen the following advertised (it’s a T125/70 R18 tyre) as a space saver. Has anyone any views and does anyone know if the fit in the spare wheel well? Regards retiredbri (good to be back)
  24. I am the original poster. When I first got the car it was on a zero% finance plan with 3 free services thrown in. I did 19,000 in the first year (most on motorway, 65mph, 2 persons on board and with few, gentle hills). After 17 months, I had used up the 3 free services. I wanted variable servicing because the engine (for the majority of the time) is running at optimal speed, optimal temperature, 2k revs (7 speed DSG) and always having warmed up properly. Long life oil has always been used even though it was on Fixed servicing and it always looks fresh and free flowing, never black or sludgy. Having to pay for two services a year is, I think, excessive. By the way, in nearly 60,000 miles I have only ever had to add 1 litre of oil.
  25. Sorry about not getting back earlier but here are the "words" from the garage. "This garage have not been charging the customer correctly for the oil (previous invoices charged for 8 units of 0.5 litres of oil when we were using the Skoda defined 4.2 litres of oil.) We are now charging for 4.5 litres because that is the minimum we can bill for on our invoicing system" "Regarding the Variable servicing, we will set it to variable free of charge if you bring the car back in" I took it back 28 Jun 2018 and it was set to variable. A Satisfied customer!
