  1. I am not sure how it works with UK insurance, but if I have a crash (lets say in the snow) here in France, I would not be covered (under my French insurance) unless I have the 'appropriate tyres for the conditions' i.e..winter tyres. I have no idea what would happen if the crash resulted in a death !! I wonder if there is a clause in 'UK' insurance when driving in France (for example) that you must have 'appropriate tyres for the conditions'.
  2. Mine says the same thing (after 9000 km's) 'but in French'. I dont think you can turn the message off. I am assuming its telling you not to leave your kids (or anybody else) in the car when its locked. I am hopping that after the first service it may disappear.
  3. There are millions of Dacia Dusters' or ' Dacia Dustbins' on the road here in France. They are very popular because of the 'Renault' propaganda machine (they think or probably do, own the motoring press) My last car was a Renault....never again...never..never...never....... Imagine buying a low cost Renault ?????.... The Dacia is not in the same class as the Yeti...although they do 'suprisingly' beat the Yeti in French car magazines....yawn !!! Saw a another Yeti today on the road...we gave each other a smug smile.
  4. Thanks for your very comprehensive response. I actually took the car to Volkswagon/Skoda today and they sprayed all the seals around the doors with their own 'anti-friction spray' which so far has solved the problem. They also adjusted two doors that were not aligned properly in the factory during its construction (not good Skoda !!). They gave me the spray free of charge just in case the noise comes back. If you can get this spray where you are it might provide a longer term solution for you. Anyway, its something to do with the fact that (well here anyway) the temperature at the moment is very hot in the day, and quite cold at night. Regards
  5. I hope the interior has been designed by Victoria Beckham !!!
  6. Yes, unfortunatly they are dry again...I have just been out in the car since washing it this morning and of course the noise is back. The constant crackling in the car is really driving me mad....and cold. I have to drive with all the windows open.
  7. Thanks for the two responses. It is certainly something to do with the top seal that the windows rest against when they are fully closed. I tried a dry lubricant (or the French equlivent) but no change. I will order the gummi-pflege as I have read that people with the same problem have used this stuff. However, I washed the car today with a jet spray....and the noise has actually disappeared on all windows. You can now hear a pin drop inside the car. But not sure if it will last. What has caused / or is causing this problem is a mystery. To simultaneously happen on all windows at the same time ???????? Regards
  8. Hi We have now completed nearly 8000 kms of trouble free motoring with our Yeti and have enjoyed every minute. However, out of the blue comes a very annoying problem. Both the driver and passenger window (and perhaps the back) are rattling beyond the point of driving me mad. This did not not happen over a period of time, but just one day they decided to rattle...and I mean rattle....both sides !!!!!!!!......If I lower the window by 1-2mm the noise goes away. I have read this thread ...briskoda.net/forums/topic/195174-drivers-and-passengers-window-rattles/......which I can say is exactly the problem. Does anyone else have this problem ? Is this a problem known to Skoda ? Is there a soloution ? I really hope hope someone can help..... I love the car but cannot tolerate it any longer :'( Mark
  9. Forget buying a UK LHD car and registering in France...I've been down that road (LHD Mk II Golf GTi) and its a nightmare. Even with a French wife to help...we never managed to acheive it.....so I would forget it. For me (regardless of car) the insurance is your problem. A UK company will not be interested and a French company (given you live in the UK and not resident in France etc ect) will require so much documentation (that you won't have) that you will go mad. There may be other (European) insurance companies out there that deal with this type of thing but you will pay for it. So a hire a car probably is your best (and cheapest) option...unless you move to France full time....which I can recommend Regards
  10. Maybe this is the point I am trying to make. Like I said, I have only seen two Yeti on the road in France in the last six months (of course there are more) but when I went to the UK a couple of months ago, between Dover and Sheffield (in one day !) I gave up counting after 10. When I was there (in the UK) I walked into a Skoda showroom and spoke to a salesman. He told me he could sell as many Yeti as he could get his hands on, but the problem was the waiting time... 9 months +. In our local showroom there are two available to buy, of course if you are happy with their spec. Otherwise its 4 months etc. So in my opinion Skoda are losing sales in the UK because some people (I am sure) are not prepared to wait. Whereas in France they are not exactly flying of the shelf. Coincidently, I read a French car magazine this morning about the best 'Suv's / Crossovers etc' on the market. Shock horror, the Yeti was not included. All the main ones were there but not the Yeti (THIS MAKES ME ANGRY). The question I ask myself is why. We all know its the one of the best cars in this catagory (if not the best) but the French motoring press (regardless if Skoda sponsor the most famous cycling race in the world) will not include it in their magazines...and sales and opinions largely come from magazines !!!!!!! Is this to do with protecting their own motor industry ! In the UK it wins all the rewards, yet Skoda can not meet the UK demand. Building a left hand drive/right hand drive is the same... What I am saying is Skoda should sort out they waiting time in the UK, as the picture is not the same over here.
  11. I am convinced (maybe I am wrong) that Skoda have tried to get as many of their sold cars on the road in France before the tour. They invest heavily in the 'Tour de France' as 90% of the cars supporting the ridders are Skoda. Given their investment, its a shame that the French market has not embraced the cars as much as other countries. The Skoda Brand has so much exposure on French TV during the tour (all you can see when you watch it is cyclists and Skoda Yeti/Octavia/Superb..) that you would think there would be more on the road.
  12. Forgot to say....16 Inch alloys (Standard on the Ambition in France) and a big sticker on the back saying 'official voiture de Tour de France'...which I did not order !
  13. Yes, perhaps...here are our specs Yeti 140 4x4 Ambition....(Thats the middle one) Beige Cappuccino (No accessories except factory fitted mats).
  14. I have visited this forum for many many months now and have been amazed at the number of threads relating to the waiting time people have to endure (particularly in the UK ) from the point of ordering a Yeti to the point of delivery. Why is there such a delay in the UK ? When we ordered our yeti (March) here in France we given a delay of 4 months, but in fact we received it in just over two (May). I was wondering whether this is down to the 'Tour de France'. Skoda are one of the main sponsors of the tour, and so, did they prioritise us (or French customers) on the production line to ensure that there are as many Yeti's on the road in France during the tour ?? I ask this question because I have only spotted two Yeti's in France (registered French) in the last six months, so demand is not that high, whereas in the UK demand seems to be far greater !
  15. This link shows you all the skoda dealerships in France. http://www.skoda.fr/reseau# There is a big one in Orvault, Nantes. Quite, easy to find.
  16. Ummmm.....No ! But to be fair, I only looked at it breifly when we bought the car.....but never had to refer to it since..... I have not had any probs with the Octavia. I am sure the Yeti will be the same.
  17. Yep......just read it (or half of it) in English and its the same headache. If the car is as good as our Octavia...probably dont need it anyway.
  18. Hi Mike ooops.. I don't know how I missed that.....especially given that I have been visiting the forum for some time now....and its in bright red letters. Anyway, I suppose I better read it now before I break something. Many thanks Mark
  19. Hello We have just received our new Skoda Yeti here in France and of course the manual is in French. Whilst I can read French and my other half is French, the manual is starting to give us all a headache. So my question.... is there somewhere safe on the internet where I can download the manual in English ? Hope someone can help. Many Thanks
