  1. That is the whole essence of this thread. AYeti (4x4) is not strictly a 4x4 because its not permanent, yet people (and governments) treat it as such....and associate with all the cliches...i.e its only useful if you go off road. Opting for the hadex system is no different to opting for ESP ect....its a safety feature and should be viewed upon as such. I think all cars should have it and M Hollande should give me a rebate on my tax as I am theoritcally less likely to have an accident.
  2. Yesterday on the the A10 (in the middle of a big big big thunderstorm) it was a nightmare and scary. Thousands of Dutch, German, English (a few Scottish) and many, many Persians thrown into the mix all trying to get to there destinations as quickly as possible .....its was very seriously dangerous....like every year (during the summer period)...everyone cutting each other up to save a pointless couple of minutes. Yes, to keep safe I like that 4x4 back-up...sorry if that annoys anyone. How many people died on French roads yesterday.... a lot methinks ! I commuted to work in Paris for two years on the BP (every morning and every evening) and I can tell you very clearly and straight....it was very very dangerous....especially in the rain. Everyone in Paris thinks they are a bloody hero in their car. My next car will be a 4x4.
  3. I was actually being honest.....sorry you took it that way.
  4. There are no digs....I would love to live where you do....Really....really...really. I am just saying, that everyones circumstances are different.....and a choice needs to be made thats all. Believe me, you need a 4x4 in France.....even in cities...Its a bloody war on the roads....especially this time of the year. Add a big thunderstorm into the mix and life becomes scary on the roads ! I would truly love to be in a situation to cross your little bridge to do my weekly shop in Kyle of Lochalsh (if my memory serves me correctly that is the opposite side of your little Island). You are very lucky.
  5. I think everyone would say the same until it happens to them. The point is that I like that extra hidden sercurity especially with two children in the back. That was why I gave my opinion to the OP's question. Crossing your little bridge for your weakly shop in Kyle of Lochalsh may not pose many problems to you, but for the rest of us, we have to deal with more challenging conditions. Its a choice.
  6. Fair point. I think however, you should add (2x2) ....to your decals to make that point.......and in little letters below it (I don't require 4x4 permanent or otherwise. Been there, done that, now wearing the 2WD t-shirt). Now that would be cool..............unless you end up in a hedge of course.
  7. .....and in the Spring / Summer & Autumn ? ..... Its a personal choice. Like I said a 4x4 Yeti is not a permenent four wheel drive.....Its a 2x2 with little more sercurity when its required. I like that, and willing to pay for it....especially with the changable weather and the current driving standards we experiencing today. My choice.
  8. A 4x4 Yeti does not have permanent four wheel drive. Its a 2x2 most of the time but its clever brain decides when you need four wheel drive when any given situation dictates you need it......and there are a lot of situations these days when you may need it. With two babies in the back and with the global climate out of control, I love that sercurity. 4x4 Yeti wins everytime. .....and in marginal snow and with (non stock tyres) a 4x4 Yeti is fine in snowy conditions.
  9. Nope it was more van like. I will be catching up with the Tour next week in Alpe du Huez......I will try to have a good old look this time. They will not be going anywhere.
  10. Possibly....but I am not so sure. I think they were special builds for the Tour. It was difficult because I was too busy trying to protect the kids from being run over by Mark Cavandish..........I did not want to spoil his race. 'Sorry Mark, I was too busy looking at the Skoda van....does it hurt ?'But....I would say the Yeti looked the best of the bunch (I am bias) but the new Octava looked really good too. I have the Mk 2 and would now very much like this one......I hope they dont change the looks of the Yeti too much. It does still look great. It must be said that all the Skodas looked great with the 'Tour de France/' different colour/stickers representing the different teams.
  11. The Tour de France has just passed our house and was a bit of Skoda fest. Lots of colours that you wont find in the Brochure....orange and yellow and some wierd blues ?.....in fact they are painted in the same colours as their team bikes. Lots of the new Octavia....have to admit it does look nice... A few superb and just one Rapid......well at least Skoda have sold one. Lots of Yeti........but they were 'Yeti Vans' never seen that one before. Very cool mind you. Got myself a free Skoda hat by waving the kids at the passing Skoda promotional vans. Smile kids...look cute...I want a hat.
  12. I suggest you re-read the forum. Given the reliabily issues that people (which are quickly swept under the carpet by some members) complain / ask advice on......I think mine was built on a Tuesday. I have only had two issues....creaky seals.....solved by a kind member on this forum.......and a squeaky chrome lens....not solved, but does make me laugh when I listen to it. Apart from that its been fab. No gearbox failures, no DPF issues....well no nothing really. I think I am lucky compared to some of the problems that others have had......but of course they dont exist they are just lies.... because the Yeti so wonderfully built.
  13. Dont mention the squeak, rattle or hum words regarding the build quality of the Yeti in this forum as many members will claim that their Yeti has done a billion miles without such problems....but of course 'those who own the car and live in reality' constantly bring up the same problems/ questions time and time again on this forum. Mine does the same but I have not found a solution to the problem. I know that holding the lens with one hand whilst driving solves the problem.......but it risks the lives of my passengers, and.....well...everyone else on the road for that matter. I have noticed that it only happens when the interior of the car is at a certain temperature or during certain weather conditions. Therefore, my wife and I describe it as a Yeti Barometer. I think this is a clever (hidden) device that Skoda have kindly introduced onto some peoples Yeti to help us predict the weather............and something that other Yeti owners can only dream of having. Seriously, if there is a solution to this problem.....I think a lot of closet ( my Yeti does not rattle) people would love to know. It is very annoying.

    Side decals

I see these decals and think on the 1980's........And now !!!.....I cant stop humming 'katchagoogoo' songs. Right enough of 'to shy shy'.....Im going outside to wash my 'Ford Capri'.
  15. Have you been out of London since the 1950's ? ?........my god they are everywhere !......and a bloody danger to us cyclists (and motorists) who enjoy the countryside...........weaving around all over the shop........Caravan drivers...with their white knuckle grip on the stearing wheel and a very pale look on their faces........quite clearly not in control of anything........very...scary !
  16. Yes but.....a Duster is as ugly and as annoying as a caravan so I think its a perfect match. Lets be clear those who pull caravans tend to do so at a very slow (but safe !) speed to the annoyance of everyone who prefers B&B's, hotels, or just sleeping rough for the night. I think a duster and a caravan is match made in heaven. A Yeti pulling a caravan.....really not cool.
  17. The new Yeti looks set to look like that new 'BabyTiguan' that is in the pipeline.......or maybe the other way round. Have to admit that I quiet like the photos of the smaller version of the Tiguan that are floating around the web.
  18. Believe me, I think the majority of the French population........will quite 'loudly' debate that point.
  19. Perhaps....but sometimes when driving through country towns in France , certain parts of cities, even on motorways, you really dont know what the speed limit is.....even my wife who is French will ask me 'what is the speed limit here ? and I shrug my shoulders. The signposting really is bad. You can change from one speed limit to another without knowing.......not mentioning 'right-hand priorities' ......which (off subject....is so bloody dangerous) Trouble is, the Police/Gendarmes know what the speed limit is and strategically place their cameras (fixed or whatever) to catch you. So even the most law abiding citizen will get caught and add to the coffers of the government. Funny is, I am writing this while watching a report on TFI on French telly about this very subject. Its a tax.....pure and simple.
  20. This weeks 'Auto Plus' magazine here in France comes with handy booklet showing all the fixed radars in France and 'moblie traps' by department on lovely detailed maps. God bless 'Auto plus'.
  21. Probably more to do with the angle of the windscreen and other characteristics of the 'Yeti' shape than anything else. Any debris kicked off the road will I suspect, have greater impact/force on a more vertical windscreen (like the Yeti) than regular cars with softer angles to their windscreens.............perhaps. ? I am sure there is an equation out there that could prove my hypothesis.
  22. The key is not to use the foam brush applicator on the Gummi Pflege bottle. Squirt the product all over your finger and apply it into the crease on the top seal of the door... really try and apply into all areas/gaps in between that seal. It really does solve the problem. Secondly, do not wash the car with a supermarket type jet wash as the shampoo is crap. I now only wash my car with cold water. If the problem persists get the alignment of the doors checked, my back two doors were not aligned properly at the factory and this caused a noise as well of the seals of the two front doors. The only thing that squeaks on my car now is the left hand crome ring of the speedometer. Annoying !
  23. Having had the pleasure of commuting to work for two years in Paris both inside and on the Périphérique......you really dont no how good you have it. The stories being told really fall into insignificance. Personally, I think the majority of Uk drivers are probably best drivers in the World....Yeti or not.

    Wet Grip

I would dearly love to have the chance to ask him that. You really are a sad case. Read your own threads and tell me your not being pompous or argumentative. Please complain to the mods and get my account deleted...so you can carry on with your very sad (my tyres are better than yours)Yeti lives in peace.
