About Me

After 4 years of owning it since new, it was time to try something else in 2015. Out went the Octavia, even if it was a really great car.

Briskoda.net is also good as gold, a brilliant resource! Big thanks to those who have helped me with this and that over the years.

(The next owner will never find the Briskoda.net sticker I hid in it, so it'll follow the car ...) B)

Hello!

My name is Christian and I own a Skoda Octavia L&K 4X4 TDI CR Estate 2011. I picked it up new from the dealer on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011.

I currently live and work in Hammerfest, a municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. Hammerfest is known as the nothernmost town in the world. Arctic Circle style!

About the car when it was delivered from the dealer:

Skoda Octavia L&K (Laurin & Klement) 4X4 TDI CR Estate 2011 (1Z)

  • 1.6 I/77 kW TDI CR,
  • 4X4 drivetrain with Haldex 4,
  • "Rough road package" which includes engine underbody protection and underbody stone guard (increased ground clearance, modified damper settings),
  • Brilliant Silver Metallic,
  • Black Alcantara upholstery,
  • 17" Cepeus alloys (225/45 R17),
  • "Laurin & Klement" kickplates,
  • Debadged boot lid,
  • 4 spoke multi-function steering wheel for radio and telephone with bluetooth,
  • Cruise-Control,
  • MDI (Mobile Device Interface),
  • Columbus Sat Nav System and navigation DVD with TMC, 8 speaker setup and all the other gubbins (the car's GPS antenna/aerial was changed under warranty in 2013 due to location issues),
  • Xenon headlights with AFS II,
  • Acoustic front and rear parking sensors,
  • Auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensor and light assistant (coming home, leaving home, tunnel light, daytime running lights),
  • Webasto independent heating for diesel engines (no more scraping ice of windows),
  • Electrically adjustable driver's seat with memory function,
  • Electrically adjustable, heated and foldable door mirrors with memory function,
  • Electric sunroof,
  • Sunset dark rear windows,
  • Heated light washers for those awesome Norwegian winters,
  • Rear mud guards,
  • Detachable towbar,
  • Great 5 year/100 000 km warranty that comes with all new Skodas sold in Norway,
  • All the other nifty extras that come with the L&K version (which is quite a lot, actually).

The car is currently running the following wheels/rims:

  • Summer: Nokian Hakka Blue, 225/45 R17 94V XL on Skoda Cepeus 17" alloys,
  • Winter: Continental ContiIceContact, 205/55 R16 94T XL Studded (Mud + Snow) on Skoda Xion 16" alloys.

I have always wanted to keep it looking as OEM as possible, without missing out on cool stuff. In addition to what it was delivered with, I have added a OEM front spoiler (parts # FAA600001), OEM rear spoiler (parts # FAA620001), OEM sport tailpipes (parts # FDC620001), OEM wind deflectors for front and rear windows (parts # KCD609001 and KCD629001), OEM dog guard (parts # DMM620001), colour coded roof rails to match the car, UV coated front windshield and kickplates for the rear doors.

I have also added minor interior trim (chrome details, L&K badge etc.), updated Columbus firmware and map data (see my gallery), chrome trim for front bumper, custom made and hand bent chrome grille inserts, brilliant BRISKODA sticker in the rear window and other neat things. I have bought a hood damper kit, but I have not gotten around to mounting it yet. :wondering:

The car has also been converted to use mostly Xenon (low beams, high beams and fog lights) and LED lighting; LED tail lights from Dectane incl. reverse light, front parking lights, daytime running lights, downlights in side mirrors, dome lights, boot lights, door safety lights, glovebox, ashtrey etc.

I also own a Ross-Tech HEX-USB+CAN connector for working on the car. Some of the current VCDS tweaks made to the car (that I can remember) are:

  • Staging (needle sweep) enabled,
  • Teardrop wiping on front window enabled,
  • Emergency brake flashing via brakes enabled,
  • Comfort turn signals changed from 3 to 5 flashes.
