  1. Purely as an aside I asked specifically for the vehicle NOT to be washed & in addition left a note in the vehicle. I've seen how they wash cars & they aint getting at my nicely prepped bodywork. Didn't get a discount though.
  2. What Area are you in, & was that a AC Garage that charged $444.59 for doing your brakes.?.......Perthshire. Skoda dealer. Maybe you are older now.....Yep...I found that getting younger was more difficult. Driving and use patterns may have changed.....Nope
  3. The bill basically read: Labour: £145.00 Parts: £266.09 VAT: £82.22 That totals £493.31 but the charge for the initial checkover (£48.72) was then deducted. Getting a local non franchised garage that I could trust is not easy. On a different tact entirely most of our previous vehicles were low mileage & BMW, Audi, Subaru. Jeep & even FIAT didn't need discs & pads at such low mileage or time scale.
  4. It's a 1.8TSI & no never have sat with my foot on the brake at the lights. Old school though with the handbrake on.....if required. I'd replace said discs & pads myself but with my handiwork it would be tantamount to suicide.
  5. Hard braking is an unusual occurrence with formerly two but now just one large Husky in the rear. She tends to object to being thrown around.
  6. OK so we don't do much mileage. Just under 16,000 in just over two years. Bad judder under braking has however led to new discs/pads front & rear. Bill for £444. OUCH!!!! :swear: :( :( :(
  7. For those short of water or short of a power washer this might be the answer: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/new-products-mesto-1-5-l-foamer-pressure-sprayer.html I've no connection with the company but have found their service & products to be excellent. I use Meguiar's Hyper Wash & have found it great for snow foaming.
  8. Yep but not so new now. Opened in 1984. Ta. At least the rain held off for ten minutes!
  9. I was a bit worried about the gull but otherwise much better than those supermarket pests.
  10. I really would like to have that expertise but with my level of handiwork........ Looks very professional to me.
  11. Got a set. Thanks angrybeard. :sun: Not a criticism of the supplier or the part but I wish that the instructions were better for a ham fisted numpty.
  12. The last car that I made proper rally mud flaps for was a classic Mini. Still got some of the "stuff" but there's no way that I'm touching the Yeti with my ham fisted workmanship SO Include me in.
  13. Being a total electrical numpty this for me would have to be "wired in" to a socket in the car. 1) Does anyone know if the supplied cigarette lighter lead is long enough for this on a Yeti 2) I take it that tp prevent battery drain I could just unlpug it from the camera 3) I leave the car in some strange places. Is the camera easily removeable or is it a case of once stuck then that's it

    Poor brakes

Interesting thoughts. I suppose that the addition of a large husky in the rear usually leads to much anticipation & gentle use of the brakes. Might be slightly different on my own but don't tell SWMBO.

    Poor brakes

........Eh no. Nothing in the braking system was or has been changed. The only difference is that the brakes now appear to work as before.........which they didn't for a period.......if you see what I mean. Unless it happens again then it's a mystery I'm afraid.

    Poor brakes

Thanks for the replies folks. Strangely the brakes seemed to "come back" from their previous "dead" (lack of servo ??) feeling. Managed to nip it into the dealers who gave it the once over & said everything seemed OK. As other presenters have pointed out there is corrosion on the discs although the pads are fine. It's what I get I suppose for doing a low mileage.

    Poor brakes

Ta.....brake pads OK. Pedal isn't really "spongy"......more a case of stand on the brakes & it will stop but not as before.

    Poor brakes

It's a 1.8 TSI. Just wondering if the brake servo has gone west. Only just over 10,000 miles & about a year & a half old. When starting off the first "touch" of the brakes feels like almost no brakes at all. That's the case for the first few uses of the brakes. Seems to get a bit better after that. From distant memory the brake pedal should go down slightly (with your foot on the brake) when starting the car. That doesn't happen.........so does that mean that the servo is goosed? NOTE 1: Yes I'll take it immediately to the dealer when they open. NOTE 2: No sign of any leaks & car doesn't pull to any one side.

    Brrrrrrr!

-7.5 on the way to Bridge of Orchy. Didn't stop some idiot in a van with ladders on the roof overtaking everything in site. I can only assume that the gorilla driving it didn't know that winter had arrived. Looked like an accident looking for a place to happen!!
  20. Lowest I saw today was -3.5 on the way to Glenshee. Still took it "canny" even with the winter tyres on.
  21. Llanigraham, needs price. - Llanidloes or Ludlow Truthseeker. Servicepoint, needs price. dbg400, needs price. Bettysman, needs price. Kenny R,needs price. Merlin's Friend needs a price. Alan Harrow, needs price - Aberdeenshire
  22. If you wish to add your name, etc, please cut and paste the list then add your name to the bottom!.............OOPS
  23. Interested but need price before deciding.
  24. Tired..........take me home Dad.
  25. I wonder how the weight of a steel wheel compares to an alloy. I'm only wondering as I'm finding it difficult enough to lift an alloy with a winter tyre onto the car. Thank goodness for the lug bolt guide tools. Comes of being a BOF I suppose. As regards alloy compared to steel there is the unsprung weight argument but I suppose that it's of little consequence unless you intend racing or rallying the beastie.
