  1. If something is fishy - don't buy. There will be other cars available.
  2. Every job will have it's plus and minus points. However There are some free qualifications - I believe there is one for english and maths, Not sure if these are relevant but these are being plugged a lot of commercial radio and TV at the moment. After that talk to your local college (Wirral Met should be able to help). If you look there are loads of free courses. What you also have to ask yourself is what do you want to do? Once you have decided this ask yourself how can you achieve this? Then do it...
  3. I answered this with Yes. Not because anything is glaringly wrong, but as with everything in life nothing is perfect. And if I'm honest, I can't think of anything specific... so maybe I voted wrongly?
  4. Agencies - don't you love em... NOT RBS is a good place to work. Have a friends wife who just left there (had a baby). But with the banking turn around it may be a case the job wasn't there at the end of the day. Same could be said about the other 'Financial' job - now is really not the time to be in finance of any sort. But what is important is what do YOU want to do. You seem to have decided and gone with what you want - hats off to you. As for awkward commutes - drive in early and sleep in the car for a short time. This has worked for me on awkward shifts. Finally Contract V Perm. after struggling for 9 months on cash which was sometimes less than minimum wage when expenses were taken out my thoughts are Contract is good to keep you in work but nothing beats the security of a permanent job with holiday and sick pay.
  5. Amazon.com: Loctite 243 Blue Threadlocker Oil Resistant/Medium Strength 6 ml.: Automotive Amazing what you get at amazon these days. And would suggest Peterborough not Wisbech - bigger store
  6. Pretty interested in this myself. The Muppet who we bought the house off took a pick axe to the drive and put a lot of large loose road stone on it. Have been quoted (for a 6 1/2 * 2.7 m stretch) £1800 for one block paving co £1450 for another £1000 for flagstones £950 for tarmac The rate quoted seems ok - but anyone know anyone in the north west who are cheaper
  7. IKEA all the way. M & S do some good stuff but generally too expensive. DFS - only if you want interest free credit We bought our bed at John Lewis' - was a display bed but got an over £1k bed for £500 - bargain
  8. AE can be Cambridge or Peterborough (AA - AK Cambridgeshire AL - AZ Norfolk & Suffolk) Inchcape do reg their Skodas in Cambs - some of the cars may be Fleet, Legal Drive Hire, Rentals etc... I suspect they may have a registering dealer in Cambs because IIRC they are based over the border in northants. The 110 though is a good unit - blow the 6 speed - I would rather have the 110.
  9. When I first saw this thread I really did not want to read it - It appeared Briskoda consisted of a large no of BNP members. Guys - Where were your cars made? I worry about the BNP Why? 1. Being 50% Czech they probably want me out of this country - despite the fact I was born here and cannot speak a word of Czech. 2. They do not take into account that most of the population in the UK have foreign blood - even them 3. Having come across some of the door to door canvasers - I can assure you no way! 4. The fact that most of those who have come here from countries such as Poland are doing the job's most locals don't want to do - for example the program on Peterborough. I can assure you faced with no work or poorly paid work I choose the latter, even if it meant working 7 days a week. TBH I am not happy with the Government in power - I never have been. but I have always voted. That said even Brown is a better option than the BNP who are playing on the fact that no one trusts the other two. And before everyone goes Tory at me I can proudly state I have no political affiliations and never will have. As for religion grrrrrr. I believe in something - there has to be a God. Also there has to be something afterwards - trouble is I can't see it at the moment. Certainly I will not go back to the Catholic Church after Mum's funeral. OK some of this will upset SWMBO (sorry hun) but these are my opinions and I don't normally talk about them - until I saw this post.
  10. Just caught up with this thread - whatever I say won't necessarily help but keep the faith. Back in the mists of time, just before my tenth birthday my mother went through something similar. Don't want to dwell on it but we got through it, despite the medical knowledge at the time decreeing there was not much wrong. Indeed my mother's GP at the time told her to START smoking again, something which eventually lead to her death 2 years ago at the early(ish) age of 74. Strange the GP died of smoking relating cancer at the age of 69... Anyway I'm not helping here at all. Keep the faith and I'm sure there are better people here who can help.
  11. Eardley's at crewe may be able to help
  12. Won't be able to stay but may pop in to say hi - IF SWMBO is out of hospital... But to all those going - watch the 50 mph cameras on the A556!
  13. Good luck on this Tried to do a meet in jan 06 - apart from tom_vrs and Steve & Rob West who were coerced no one turned up. Fortunately there were some mg-rover.org guys there so wasn't too bad. Now I'm living in cheshire, there seems a lot more in the north west. I did try to get some meets going but got 0 response. Is it because people in the east are too embaressed to admit they drive a skoda?
  14. Richie sums it up nicely here. Yes some of the PCSO's are 'a clothes hangar' but some are definitely not. They cannot completely replace the boby on the beat. However, when used with every day officers surely there can't be any harm done. This is providing the 'clothes hangar's' are weeded out. That included the officer(s) who would not jump in the lake IMHO. Last year I went to a specials open evening at my local police HQ. Had work not got in the way I probably would have applied. During the talk the role of PCSO's was explained and the way it was described the whole process seemed a good idea. You do get 1 or 2 misfits to put it midly, but in every walk of life this is the case, even serving police officers and ... well dare i say it MP's. PCSO's IMHO should not be used to replace regular officers however, and if this pertition is solely aimed at that all well and good. However having signed two of these (red arrows and fuel prices) only to get a carefully crafted reply from one of Tony Blair's spin doctors, as much as this may seem a good idea (the petition) I really do not think it will do any good, sadly.
  15. Sorry guys would have been there but SWMBO (Vikki_VRS) has been ill - something which has lead to a stay in hospital. Amazing what Bronchitus can do - blood sugar beyond 31 for starters (Vikki is a diabetic btw). We will try to make the next one so keep us posted.
  16. Tom Remember the double matress I got in mine And the wardrobe Damned good cars - I miss mine even though ECU's kept failing
  17. For that money you could pick up a 2 - 3 year old shape Corsa. Picanto's aren't that bad - but also what about the Hyundai Getz - I know of one going for under £5k which is 2 years old (5 year warranty). PM on it's way
  18. Advice MAKE IT SHORT we had Phil Collins 'You'll be in my heart' Over 5 mins of hell (I can't dance to save my life - ask LFC958) something 2 1/2 mins is probably best
  19. The Logan has been promised to the UK Market - when productionb for India (RHD) starts. However Having family in Czech I know that reliability isn't great. also there are a few tatty ones which are barely 3 years old. A case of you get owt for nought... UK imports were supposed to start for the logan in 2007 - wonder if the poor feedback has stoped it.... Or Have Renault instead decided to import the Clio campus from slovenia with it's self opening bonnet
  20. Will it have the £400 a year road tax - like the RX8..... No this may look like the Rx8 replacement. and with Mazda reliability - should be a good buy.
  21. 1.9 for my money is a better engine - having had major issues with a 2.0 Pdi. But note of caution An 06 car is still nearly 2 years old. Whilst the warranty will take the car through it's next MOT, come 2 years time you may find yourself in the same position. That said I love Octy II's - the space the comfort etc.... I could go on. Try to get MOT insurance in the deal. then you are covered if someone decides to fail your pride and joy. But most important - enjoy
  22. They won't be £6k - In Germany they are about £8 - £10k for an outmoded Samara replacement with some pretty ugly wings on it. But Having worked at the import centre in Carnaby - would I buy - YES - if circumstances are right
  23. Sorry (Hide) No just do not like Vectra's - especially after having had to suffer one. They aren't that bad but Mondeo beats it IMHO. Boxster - A Porsche (sorry if I spelt this wrong). They do drive well but my back and feet... OK I think it's because I'm 40
  24. They do but not the best - and yes I have driven one - I take people on test drives every weekend There is no such thing as bad car nowadays it's just what people like or hate. IMHO the old shape mondeo is a better drive and is at the mo a bargain £10 - £12k for a tidy 6 month old car. As for the boxter I ended up with sever backache the last time I drove one. The pedals are too small for my wide feet and I got severe backache. but there again some may love them - but not me.
