I see, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what's the case with the bulb I received in the photo above? How come it doesn't (seem to) fit even though it's supposed to be an H8?

GULP!! 170GBP?! What are these made of??? I said 3x not 10x Was thinking of something up to 50GBP would be justifiable but 100+ for something of purely cosmetic nature and zero use is maybe too steep. I'll consider the options, I have bought from that shop before, great service. My question is is it H8 the correct type, or I have ordered the wrong type?

Can someone assist regarding the dreaded fog lights please? I wanted to replace them with something similarly white to the DRLs/main bean. Only recommendation I've seen was from Gizmo in the first post but a) the link is not working and b) I'd rather buy a known brand and from a shop in the EU as opposed to unknown origin and quality control items from Ali-whatever. Anyway I received it yesterday, went out to fit and I realize it is not possilbe although it's advertised as H8 compatible, photo of the item in the left and the OEM one in the right: The diameter of the bulb body is apparently slightly larger than the opening on the headlight so it can't even enter properly, let alone it doesn't feature these 3 alignment-locking metal tabs at the bottom to provide locking (not that I reached that step anyway). On top of that the bulbs smelled awfully, like burnt electronics, and I feared of potential fire risk (I've read about smt like this with other cheapo chinese bulbs in another post in this thread i think) so I wasn't even too fond of keeping them. SO... Who makes compatible, LEDs for this application and where I can readily order them in the EU? It can't be that the only options are these ultra cheap made ones from the usual Chinese shops?? PS, Anyone knows if this is a different socket type to thhe H8 and if so which one? Trying to sort this with the shop currently

3 weeks of exclusive 2min drives then huh? I wonder if we have discovered the limit over (or under) which the GPF complains... Good thing I've been using the wife's Corsa to drop the little one to school (3min drive, 1km away) lately. Was thinking why I am suffering with de-icing and entering a frozen car every morning (only one indoor place and the Superb gets that!) when my other car is all warm and cozy but I'll think I'll continue using the Opel after your post! I doubt anyone else has seen that message on a petrol car (or maybe I've missed that) so maybe you're a pioneer

I'd have to agree with @TheBinarySheep on the Kia. It just doesn't feel any special or attractive to me whatsoever, guess it's partly due to the looks which are a weird blend without getting somewhere particular and to my perception of the brand. The AWD is also such a pig, a whooping 200kg heavier than the Superb which sounds crazy (some people call the Superb a heavy car ), if i change weight class I'm going down not up! I don't doubt it should drive well and I've seen a red one in the flesh which looked far better than I thought, just not for me.

That's a new to me. I didn't even know a GPF car could ever request a regen from the driver, I mean like Diesels do, I had the impression any regens where quicker/easier to do and were carried out in the background. Mine's two years old too, 20k km and mostly sitting the last months but I try to take it for some blasts on a weekly basis. Never seen such a message. Some weeks it's only done that actually, hasn't seen the family for a while and at this point you could say it's more of my toy than our daily driver Has yours been sitting for long?

Never saw that @Bigeater! You have to use @ before the name to tag properly! (it'll turn green if you do it right ) Sounds good, but as you say the cost of a normal stage 2 is dysproportional to the gains when compared to stage 1. To be honest that's why i loved my nearly free (just 100 for the remap) GPF Stage 2 that requires no catalyst upgrade. 1.8bar peak boost is what I'm seeing on mine as well. Would be nice if you got the chance to do a 100-200 run with proper equipment (in some private airfield of-course), we would then have some more solid comparisons on how a stage 2 performs on the 280 vs the 272 and if the REVO claims about making the same power on the stock cat as pre-GPF on upgraded cat are true, although they certainly point towards that direction so far. I find my economy exactly the same after the stage 2. Did a 100mile trip today and I saw the same numbers as before which makes sense unless you are on full boost all the time.

All 3 cars you mention are great looking imo, the S5 and the Giulia a bit more so in my eyes, the C43 is more restrained but it has the more interesting drivetrain out of the three for me. Improving the exhaust note and keeping the OEM looks is a bit tricky as it'll need to be a custom job, but there is definitely room for improvement judging from upgraded exhaust systems I've heard on other MQB cars.

The Giulia is a 2.0 4-pot, think you confused it with the 510bhp QV and I didn't even think of the Audi as the exhaust note is nothing too special despite the V6 (before it was given that awful TDI motor in 2019) Both are noticeably slower than a stage 1 280 though (Giulia even more) so you'd be back in the "forbidden" tuning sooner in no time! The only relevant 3.0 V6 that sounds actually good and goes fast as stock i can think of is the C43.

Hehe, this was one of the options I was considering. Very nice and practical package and (as used) not too much more expensive than the Superb (i'm assuming it's the C43 in question here...), depending on the market of-course. 3 things that put me off further consideration, which probably don't apply to everyone else but just for the sake of chatting: a) My neighboor got one last year so it'd look like I was copying him, I'm more used in setting the example b) Can't imagine going back to a car with an analog dash any more, makes it feel as if it's a decade old in my eyes. Obviously not an issue if you don't have a digital dash already (or if not too fond of it as opposed to myself ) and that tablet in the middle of the console just looks wrong. c) Slower than my Superb currently so there I'd go with tuning and burning cash all over again on top of the purchase cost and I've made it a requirement that if I am spending say another 10K on top of the Superb's current value it'd better be on a car that's at least just as fast in stock form. But in general it's a very attractive and competitive package (as used)

So prior bad treatin of the car cannot be really excluded. In any case you're just not having much luck with this particular one it seems. Ironically, these engines are some of the best of the VAG with none of the old TSI issues, reliable, very easy to tune and able to push 400+ bhp on stock block, it's one reason the cars that sport them have been so popular among enthusiasts, many of which have switched cars but simply got the same underpinnings again just in a different guise. The only weakness, more so on the earlier ones is the turbo but again only a fraction of the owners has had that failinh and even then, it's usually a turbo/swap repair and keep moving on, that's where you got double unlucky, assuming it's what the garage thinks it is. Let's see what the full assesmet of the issue is...

I hear you... Not a nice situation to be in... The car was used right? Could it have been tuned before and then reverted back to stock for selling? Any idea about how the previous owner was treating it maybe? Blown turbos are not unheard of, especially on the earlier cars as every newer turbo revision (almost on a yearly basis) seemed to mitigate the issue to a larger extent every time but such damage, not so common, which makes me wonder about how the car has been treated overall before coming to you. Did they say if/how the bearing wear relates to the blown turbo or if there is another possibility for it failing? The thought of selling up is inevitable even though from a cold and technical point of view, with all of what you'd have replaced at that point that you sell it, it'll have much more chances of long term reliability than any other unknown car you could switch to, provided the engine has been thoroughly inspected and any damage properly assessed. I've considered alternatives just for the sake of switching over the last 6 months and it's nearly impossible to find a similar package of performance-comfort-space-luxuries-practicality and i would add tuneability although I'm sure it's not a subject you must be very fond of discussing at the moment. Apart from VAG offerings on the same underpinnings that are all smaller and with less options, there's not much to really compete with a 280/272 unless you make some trade-off somewhere, or raise your budget by around 20-25%. I also like the car very much so in the end I decided it would be madness to switch to something less and then start spending all over again just to bring it to the same level my car is at the moment so I'm sticking with it. Hopefully it will be a reasonable fix and you can stick with the car you like too, fingers crossed!

Haven't heard of any mk7 Golf R/GTI, Leon Cupra to suffer from this tbh so it surprised me to see it on a 280 isn't it? We know the 280 runs on softer springs but this is unacceptable imo. No idea about the regular Golfs and Leons though that you mention.

How on earth does a spring snap like that on a 2yr old car... Are the roads near you that bad? No other damage to the suspension or chassis hopefully? Makes me feel a bit better for all the trouble installing Eibachs even though preventing this was not my main drive...

Unless you get an error on the dash too or some other weird behaviour don't worry too much. OBDEleven will occasionally show "faults" that are not real, but rahter a temporary status of the module that sends out a false alarm.

That's very convenient actually. GPF stage 2 does not require a downpipe, (well at least the stage 2 offered by REVO, i know others have removed the GPF and run even stronger times but anyway) so you can also consider it as a cost that you'd normally have paid to go pre-GPF stage 2...

Nice one. Upgrading your own turbo and in particular the parts of it that are prone to failing is probably what many people are after who don't want to go to the next level of a true stage 3, but would like to eliminate the biggest risk of something going bad and taking (possibly) other more expensive stuff with it on its way out. I agree that stage 1 or 2 does not alter the situation too much in terms of potential failure. Already at stage 1 the turbo is working at 33% increased boost. I was considering LM turbocharger upgrades but they are twice as expensive as they are also bigger and make more power plus other parts would have to be upgraded so it would be a proper stage 3 and I don't want to go much further than 400ps on this car really. But 700EUR for upgrading the core is really a small cost when taking into account the cost of other typical upgrades and the importance of the turbo longevity. I might look into the TTE upgrade more seriously, the thing is I am not sure if i could tackle the work myself this time, and I don't have any workshops I can trust for this type of job nearby. Otherwise the cost is really insignificant for the benefits it brings. Just take a look at the "blown turbo" thread and the continuing trouble the OP is going through with his car...

As a general principle I totally agree, but this case is far from preventing any sickness as I explained a couple posts above, apart from broken feelings from lost races (for whoever is into that...) Worst that can happen is continuous heat soak and power cutting but considering my given involvement with monitoring how the car runs, logging times and data, chances are pretty slim it will un-noticed if it shows up later. And if it does, the solution is straight-forward, it's just that the current conditions don't seem to call for that sort of upgrade at all. REVO probably didn't set up the map for the favourable cold Swedish climate and an unleaded-ethanol mix that helps things but, i'd guess, for tougher conditions. If we seriously want to talk prevention though, upgrading the turbo in these cars when running stage 2 is a is much more crucial upgrade, that could also save several $$$$ of damage in the worst case scenario. Have you upgraded yours?! This is something I am toying with currently, simply because this is our daily car and also it is planned to cover some big mileage this year so if the IS38 turbo lottery happens to show my name at some point, being off the road is not a good scenario at all. In fact, as we speak this is an upgrade with a much higher probability of happening than an intercooler upgrade despite the higher cost.

Yes needs to be activated from the dealership, it's a 5min job if I recall right. Handy feature which I've used a couple of times when walking to the car to pick up something and realizing I had forgot my key elsewhere.
