  1. Would this have to have been stripped out for the engine change and then not put back correctly? It was a local company I was recommended to this morning doing the alignment, they had never had to track a car to the position mine was after we got it running straight, usually he sets it to 0 & 0 for correct position. I never thought about it being put back together wrong after the engine out/squirter work to be honest....
  2. I have just been to get the car alignment checked, when I arrived the steering wheel was "nearly" dead straight (see above) and the reading was +2 & -2 on the alignment tool. They adjusted to 0 & 0 which put the steering wheel way out, had to be held about 1.5 inches to the right to keep the car straight on the road. After much head scratching and tinkering we have got the steering wheel straight and the car driving straight at +2.7 & -2.7 on the alignment tool. Question is, why are these settings so far off 0 & 0 is something bent? Has anyone else had to set their car up like this or found a perfect set up?
  3. I will keep that in mind for future, I knew I had heard/read that somewhere before, thanks for the confirmation
  4. When I had new tyres fitted they also did alignment. When I drove it away I noticed that the steering wheel wasn't in a central position when the car was going in a straight line, I had to have it slightly turned to the right to keep the car straight. If the steering wheel was straight the car would end up off the road withing 25 metres. I returned to the tyre centre and they said that everything was set up perfectly and it must be the car that wasn't straight (or word to that effect), so I asked them to put the steering wheel straight as possible, it's still not perfect, slightly to the right by about 1cm to keep the car in a straight line, so I am monitoring tyre wear and will be speaking to Skoda if they wear unevenly, my rear tyres were out of shape, the reason for me changing all 4. It's always pulled a bit left from new (now 30k) but the steering wheel was always straight and the car drove straight.
  5. Just to update, I took the car to the dealer when I could eventually fit it into my schedule, they were going to "have a look at it", after an hour the service manager came over and told me they had changed the resistor and all was ok, just waiting for confirmation it is covered by warranty now, should be ok as I have the "All components" cover. I had to bite my tongue when he told me it was the resistor as when I called then initially,I told them the info I had from this page, and their response was "To be honest, forum people don't usually know what they are talking about, when I was a VW we had resistor faults and they ALWAYS stopped working apart from setting 4, so it's unlikely it's the resistor causing the problem", how I didn't laugh in their faces I don't know!!
  6. How are members with oil jets fixed getting along now? I've done 7000 miles and used about 2250ml of oil since having mine done last July :-) Has anyone had any problems since?
  7. Thank you very much, I will look into getting the resistor changed, I'll check the details on the extended warranty but I seem to think electrical wasn't covered. Many thanks for your reply
  8. Ahh thank you, I did do a search but couldn't find anything specific to setting 1, many thanks :-)
  9. Made a couple of quick calls to dealers and they mention a resistor is a common problem but that makes the fan run on setting 4 constantly, so that isn't the problem I have. They also don't think a recharge will fix the problem. I'm going to vary the speeds using the fan this week and see if it sorts itself out, I can't think of anything else other than a new motor? I doubt this is covered on the extended warranty either
  10. No low temps here, only -1 or -2 a few times I wondered if it just needed a "service" to sort it out, I only use it for demisting in winter, cool in summer, just seemed really odd to not work on setting 1 but fine above that! If it weren't for the fact I was demonstrating turning it to the screen and pointing out that the A/C came straight on (or not in this case) I probably wouldn't have noticed. I'll get the A/C serviced and see if that helps, thank you very much
  11. Bit of an odd one this, started a couple of days ago. Just demister on fan speed 1 it only seems to work when it wants to, aircon light doesn't come on, fan speed 2 and above all is fine Usually when you turn the airflow to screen the aircon comes on, only works on fan speed 2 and above Any ideas? Thanks in advance :-)
  12. Thanks for the tip, I was just going to put some WD40 on a cloth and wipe the rods, would that be ok?
  13. Haha, I didn't want to mention the "Sound like a G^^^" but that's what I meant! I have a creak too, think it just needs a little lube on the hydraulic boot lift arms when I get 5 minutes?
  14. As the car is getting older I've been noticing it sounds a little bit "tinny" when you shut the doors and central locking, maybe it's just me being over picky? It just doesn't seem to have that nice thump sound about it anymore, I have sprayed PTF onto locks/hinges/handles as best I can to no avail, any tips on how to get that sound back again? Hopefully not just me thinking this!!
  15. Re Tyres - I put a set of Toyo PROXES T1-R on mine shortly before Christmas and they have been fine for me, although they don't get driven hard. They have good rim protection and are quieter on the road than the standard fitted Dunlops were.
  16. Best of luck with the car and soon to be family :-)
  17. Oil use is fine at the moment since having the work done, just rang alarm bells reading above about software updates and concerned mine might not have the software to match the work that was done, probably worrying over nothing! EDIT: If my dealer had actually bothered to look into the work before carrying it out, they may have realised that mine didn't need the breather part doing, we'll never know now though
  18. On my paperwork it shows the parts fitted as you know, but there is nothing on there stating a software update was done. As you know, me and my local don't really get along so I wondered if it would show up on the Skoda CS system which version I'm on? Do you know if the software update mandatory or optional with the oil jet job please? I'm a little concerned if it hasn't been done I'm running some sort of risk now.
  19. Does anyone know the software version the update is after oil jet replacement and how I can find out please? I'm guessing I would have to ask the dealer and take their word for it that they actually did it at the time or is it on the vehicle log with Skoda that they or any dealer could tell me?
  20. Apologies if I've missed this discussed before, but has anyone compared the old and new oil jets and know what has changed to make this fix the most successful so far?
  21. It would have been around that rev range I suspect, has yours got worse or do you think it's just something that happens?
  22. I also use a vRS for tuition Sept 2012 registered and it was about £450 this year with Allianz through Instructor Cover+
  23. As far as I'm aware they are still original plugs, not sure if they were new when the engine was changed at 6800 miles or if they were transferred from the original engine, so possibly nearly 27k old I'll monitor it and try to replicate it whenever possible, sounded a bit like a loud "pinking" Oil jets were changed 4000 miles ago I'll check the above post :-) EDIT Can't see the above post, different forum maybe?
