  1. Are you sure the black isn't just crap from the fuel?
  2. PS4 for me, purely because no XBOX will ever have a Gran Tursimo game
  3. I've used one for years. It can be a bugger to get to seal (I presume to the more worn seals on mine) but they work well. The bleeders that use vacuum are better though (and more expensive) car factories use them when they build the cars
  4. If you want something like an MR2, would you consider other convertibles of that age? If you want speed and handling, a Scimitar SS1 Turbo is unbeatable for the price. Nissan 1.8 turbo and it only weighs 900kg. A very good one can be had for £2k-£3k.
  5. Have you got standard wheels? When I put non standard wheels on one of my cars, the offset was not identical to original (close though) and they were slightly wider than original. These combined made the car undrivable. It tramlined, steered itself and veered off in differant directions under braking. Standard wise wheels/tyres now on and it drives like new
  6. Sorn the octy and buy a cheap classic car. Pre 73 (74 as of next year) are tax exempt, insurance is always under £100 and they don't depreciate. When you're done, sell it (maybe for profit) and go back to the skoda. It'll probably cost you less to run than the octy
  7. ASH (auto silicone hoses) are good. You can buy them direct or through their eBay shop
  8. Yes, quite a lot of Essex engined cars went on fire because of the brass pipe, it was just more evident on Scimitars because the body melts. The first thing I do when I buy a Scim is pin the pipe (I have 3 now and no problems)
  9. Yep, you flatten the light beam using maxidot. Its under lights and vision. You also don't need breathalysers anymore, despite companies still advertising that you do
  10. I'm not sure they should be advisories. The tester is not allowed to remove any part of the car during the test though
  11. A VTEC doesn't lack in character, its anything but I owned a Civic Type-R EP3 and I always had a smile while driving.
  12. I've never had one, never driven one but I want one so much Just buy one!!
  13. I'm pretty sure leaving my hand on the Superbs gearstick doesn't kill the gearbox, it's and auto Out of the manuals we have, one is fwd, so is remote, one is rwd but uses rods and 3 are rwd non remote (3 are the same gearbox) but have no vertical travel in the stick and it won't damage the gears. I'll take my chances I think One of my Turbos runs 15 psi and is raced. I've turned the engine off straight away and its fine. I do run it for a bit most the time though, its a good habit I think
  14. Depends what car I guess. I stay well away from eBay for selling. Its rare that items sell for their true value on there. Autotrader is a good start for a family car
  15. We arrived at Salzburg airport today for our holiday expecting to get a little golf 4x4, but surprisingly, we got a new (100km on the milometer) Yeti 2.0 4x4 Very impressed so far, especially with its winter tyres, I just hope I get to use the off road button
  16. They don't look bad, just very old. I'd say there's no cause for concern
  17. Agreed, I don't think new cars are "classic" either, but I think its difficult to find a cut off point. For example, is a 1990s Reliant Scimitar Sabre a classic, when its a development of the SS1 which was launched in '84?
  18. IMO its impossible to define a classic car. It can't be something rare because of Minis and MGs etc. you could go by age, but some people view new Astons as Classics and there's also that "brand new" MGB LE 50 that costs £60k
  19. Try it and find out? What's the worst that can happen?
  20. Who cares when it makes that sound Surely its worth spending the extra £££ over the noisey, slow diesel just for that
  21. Do it, but its already been said, watch the brakes, they'll sent you through the windscreen with minimal effort Mine does mainly town driving and it averages 27MPG. On a run it'll do 30-31ish
  22. I got my issue of AE today to find there was a group test between the Superb SE Plus 170, the new Mazda 6 Sport and the Passat Sport 170. All were saloons. The Mazda came first, the Passat second and the Superb last. I'm not going to say the others are rubbish and the Superb should have won, but I was suprised that the VW beat the Skoda. After all, in all the other tests they've been in, the Skoda beat the VW. I also found it strange that they chose high spec VW and Mazda (that both cost around £25k) and the Superb was a £23k mid ish spec car. If they tested the Elegance, it would have been more fair IMO. I do think the Mazda looks great though, and I'll be looking at them when its time for a change
  23. I've done it with a VW touran hire car in France. And a hire Zafira in Ireland...
  24. The water pump doesn't sound that urgent if its just weeping. It may be dripping a little bit when its Spinning at full speed, but it doesn't need be done tomorrow (or maybe that's just me, having too many classics ) it might even be that its not the water pump at fault, its actually the gasket. I don't know what the Superb's water pump is made of, but most water pumps are metal, and its very difficult for metal to leak. If its plastic, however, it could have cracked if you've had a cold winter. I wouldn't say any belts would need to be changed, unless you are getting near the mileage when the timing belt should be changed. You may not feel that the shocks are worse than they used to be because they'll slowly get worse, which makes it hard to notice from driving. Dobbey
