  1. Not necessarily any physical / mechanical connection with an autobox, or an accelerator and much the same e-brake as with BEV,s, PHEV,s.
  2. Not really, you can try yanking on the parking / emergency brake, stamping on the brake pedal and if the accelerator is doing nothing and the engine keeps going you might be stuffed. When a diesel starts running on the oil (run away) then it keeps on going, not so bad if the car is on it,s side in a ditch.
  3. Or a big ORANGE ring that pulls the KILL switch / fuse right under the steering column.
  4. @xman tell us your truth about electric vehicles because at present there seems little new being posted.
  5. That has been part of the electrical failure. Needs to be a big KILL switch / Fuse puller or an anchor that drops out of the rear.
  6. If you did not stop and went right back than it might be nearer 40 mpg you get than 30 mpg since the engine is at a more efficient temp.
  7. Depends how far you are going from the cold start until you then get where you are going. & in the stop / start traffic is stop / start operating. Does the engine oil even get to an indicated 90*oC before you end the journey?
  8. 'Finger brakes', Parking / Emergency brakes. Not much use really fighting all that BHP / Nm to the rear wheels being driven by electric motors that will not reduce power. But if you can lock up the rear wheels then you have the front wheels still be powered on a AWD BEV.
  9. @J.R. I never went back for the 3rd week. The last thing the garage needed was people coming checking up on my progress or work practices.
  10. It is a bit more than brake failure, It sounds much more as the accelerator do not allow the electric motors to stop powering the vehicle or the vehicle to be turned off. If it could have been the vehicle might have reduced speed greatly unless it was going down hill. Much the same story as with the MG Electric that supposedly abducted the gent in the Glasgow area. Yesterday in the EV section of Briskoda.
  11. When i stopped going to Day Release i got an extra £10 a week.
  12. I can not recommend anyone in Dundee. I can give you a number in Forfar but maybe he will be too busy. Might recommend you someplace though. http://charlesbutlermotor-forfar.co.uk Maybe Gavin next door has availability.
  13. Plenty competent places around Edinburgh, these will not include West End, or Arnold Clark.
  14. @jetsetwilly Members have purchased used units and had them fitted. Who / where did the work so far and quoted £7,000 ? Was the Haldex Serviced @ 3 years / 30,000 miles at a Main Dealership?
  15. I was on £18 a week as an apprentice mechanic, but also worked on the petrol pumps.... 77 pence a gallon. & had a FS1E. & a 1959 Morris Minor that had been my uncles, then traded for an Anglia, then a Hillman Imp before my 17th birthday.
  16. When diesel cars became popular plenty were OK with Oil changes each 3,000 miles and a few years later ones that were @ 6,000 miles intervals. Towing or just getting good economy solo. Rep Mobiles. EV,s are very much still rep mobiles, and now EV vans for commercial use. The Government had and still have incentives for that. As it is the UK Government loves Taxing Oil & Gas and Electricity retailed by those providing public charging. Hopefully in the future there is a fair taxation on miles driven by what ever vehicles and a fair cost for fuel to cover those miles. Back in the day you used to know that it could take a days wages to fill a cars tank of fuel. Low paid workers. Now a gallon of fuel is a bit below the hourly rate of the 18-20 year old on the minimum wage. If 16 years old @ getting £5.18 an hour not even enough for a gallon for using in a moped.
  17. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/417427-heated-seats-a-burning-issue http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-campaigns
  18. It was a Voluntary Recall with Mk2 Fabia. A Service / Workshop Campaign, a TPI, yet never a SAFETY CRITICAL Recall with the DVLA / VOSA / DfT. Actually Dealership staff even said, 'Never heard of that'. Many cars still never had the replacement switches.
  19. @Winston_Woof They do after all about 70 million of our & EU money went into getting them. Sadly many are out of date, unreliable or no longer working or maintained. SWARCO have the monopoly having been allowed to by the SNP Government. Running CPS, being the provider of Chargers, being the maintenance company for many of the 32 local authorities. Maybe later and inquiry to this too close relationship with Transport Scotland, SNP, the love in.
  20. Expensive in the Highlands & Islands for Highland Council chargers though.
  21. This is where i have been with the MINI Electric this year. 3 failed charging locations & Edinburgh Airport Park & Ride rapids have not been on since last years floods. I have spent more charging the MINI since August last year than i did in 3 years / 60,000 miles with the Corsa Electric. The MINI needs charged before 100 miles covered and it has had some quite expensive sessions on chargers and charging at home @ about 21 pence a kWh, Free charging mostly South Ayrshire, some in Angus. Cheaper Public charging Perth & Kinross.
  22. Even 5 cylinder petrols.
  23. Sometimes they do, but he is a click bait merchant that is playing to his audience pure and simply. Always hedging his bets and making silly remarks he can not back up. There is many reasons for many to not have an EV and the expense of running them for those that have not all the benefits of the HMRC / Tax payer help, cheap charging etc is maybe the biggie. All the other stuff, materials, insurance, short life of the battery, vehicle etc is discussed over and over and over. Tyres, Cats / metals, Brake materials polluting is as much an issue with ICE vehicles as Tyres and Brake material is with EV,s.
  24. Welcome to the forum. First the correct diagnosis is required. The Haldex is not the Diff. The Haldex Service can be done wrong and diff oil drained. Different Unit. The Tech or Fitter,s bosses would be more than happy if the customer was just to splash out £7,000 for new parts fitted because they are not Mechanical Engineers that repair parts required just units. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/504715-haldex-replacement http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/485788-cracked-haldex-unit Autohaus Edinburgh maybe can help, but busy because good and Edinburgh Main Dealerships are not so. http://autohausedinburgh.co.uk
  25. A mod can maybe move this to the Superb section.
