  1. Hi, Well its a tried and tested conversion on here? ECS do a kit so cant be that bad, the 02j gearbox was originally fitted with a SMF in the vr6 and abf 2.0 16v gti mk3 golfs so cant see why it would be a problem? anyone else have any thoughts on this? cheers paddy
  2. Yeah, All went well managed to compete the job without removing the drive shafts. Both cups on each side need to come off, and the drivers lower ball joint need to be split to give an extra inch or to for clearance to re attach the cup. The drive shafts were M12 so were the DMF bolts. May do a complete write up if people are interested. Thanks,
  3. okay so this is why i thought it was going: and the old flywheel: new very good condition genuine g60 fly pressure plate friction plate on.. what you think ?
  4. hi, yeah checked and cleaned it all up still intact and in good condition, its not on the floor just closer than it used to be lol cheers
  5. its also quite close to the bottom but i got used to a faxked clutch so the biting point was almost at the pedal's resting point! lol
  6. Sorry just to say for those who havent read my previous posts... I replaced the DMF with genuine G60 flywheel £88 Vr6 Sachs clucth kit £66.99 genuine new flywheel bolts £22.08 genuine new pressure plate bolts £ 3.48 2 liters of gearbox oil £24.00 £204.00 all in! oh could have done it under £200 but didn't realize the oil would have to be drained! :( cheers paddy
  7. Hi All, I have completed the clutch change! What a b*tch of a job that was! I will add pictures later, surficive to say the clutch needed changing! I may write a how to guide if anyone needs the guide? Could become a sticky maybe? Clutch is light as a feather, will take some getting used to now... Revs a little faster, no extra noises yet... Only thing is my mate sheared one of the bolts that bolts the dog mount to the subframe, have about an inch sticking out. the mount has sheared too. other side is bolted in just crunches when starting on a hill etc.. Anyone have a spare one with bolts>? Cheers Paddy
  8. If i am honest the bonnet is too big for a rattle can but it came out fine... My mk1 was a track toy... it weighed 780 kilos and had 188bhp at the fly with a 4 speed close ratio box wasnt worried about finish... Oh yeah and it did 0-60 in under 6 sec!
  9. Injectors: The only way I know how to diagnose (roughly) injectors is to run each injector in to a open bottle with a mark on the side... car will run like poo on three cylinders but do one at a time if they are all about the same i would say they are okay. If one is way down, i would say its either partially blocked or on its way out... Engine: Again red neck style get a GURT screw driver, run the engine, and stick the end on the cam cover and other various parts and put your ear to the end... If you can hear the tapping through the screwdriver then it may be some sinister. Cheers
  10. Not a skoda, The definitive original gti... My old mk1 golf S1!!! How i bought it: after a rattle can job from halfords: after a face lift: oo yeah and this: haha the power of a kr on R1 bike carbs hehe sorry slightly off topic...
  11. Having had some older diesels i would suspect injectors, as they have been known to make noise when either partially blocked or... when the seals are drawing in air around the edges... However this may not be the same on this engine/ Anyone else, correct me? May be worth a look, these engine are pretty bullet proof... if as you have said, its been looked after... hth Paddy
  12. can i get away with a stubby version of this? Cheers, Paddy
  13. Yeah Clive said you can do it without removing the drive shafts. So m12 allen key right? Or just a plain old nut? Cheers paddy
  14. What size torx bit are the flanges on the gearbox and if i have to remove the hib nuts what size are they? Cheers Paddy
  15. Hi All, My clutch is on its last legs, its now surging in third at constant throttle seriously is about to go, will have have all the parts Saturday to complete the job just not the past experience. I have changed many things, a clutch is not one of them! I cant afford to pay anyone to do it, I have a good tool kit drive on ramps jack, axle stands, torque wrench sockets etc etc. Just not the balls to attempt on my tod?! Does anyone live around the westbury, warminster, trowbridge area that would be willing to give a fellow forum blogger a hand?! Cheers Paddy

  18. Here you go buddy, I went to get a fence panel for a mate today so thought i would take a snap of the car with the bars on: of them fitted: of the brand: and how it attaches: and in full action on the way to cadwell park.. ( has a invisible removable tow bar BTW (westfalia genuine and the bar fits into the tool kit that sits in the spare wheel, cant stand a tow bar that you can see all the time) of the car with tow removed: sorry for extra photos lol
