  1. To be fair, a car doing 30mph is covering 13.5m a second. That's very nearly 3 superb lengths in just 1 second. The gap might not be tight at all but might quickly become so if you're delayed departing, perhaps more so if you're expecting to move and give it more boot and spin the wheels a bit. Thus far I've had stop/start for all of 500 miles and its not caused me any issues yet, but most of that is on the motorway where its not exactly used much (except the M25). I guess just like driving a DSG, it just takes some adapting. So far Lane Assist has been the wierdest thing to get used to. My car wanting to steer for me at motorway speeds is an odd sensation.
  2. Still can't fathom how they can make a car that can steer, park, cruise, change gear and yet not have switched 12v sockets.
  3. Had a lush drive down to work this morning. 112 miles of A46/M40/M25/M4. Nice just wafting along and occasionally using the loud pedal to clear it's throat. Incidentally, I had a Sportline 280 for about 8 hours on Tuesday while my cameras were being re-calibrated. So much stuff missing that I'd already gotten used to. Anyway, the Sportline still had the Steinbauer box fitted that I've had temporarily removed from mine. The video I have of a launch with it fitted puts a 0-60 (65 on the dial) at 5.5 seconds. Lightly damp surface.
  4. Well my day long toy while mine was being fixed was the Sportline estate 280. Very nice, but so much missing that I've already gotten used to in just 300 odd miles with my own specced L&K. No power tailgate, no waggly foot to open it, no rear camera, no front beeps, no blind spot detection, no vented seats. Most I wouldn't have specced on a new car, but on my 4 month old one they are wonderful additions. It did give me a chance to try out ACC though as well as a launch with the Steinbauer power box fitted (this was another execs demo car and they all seem to get them fitted). I'll have to have a look at just how rapidly it clocked 60. Needless to say. It went. Now at last my precious has returned and all seems to be working as it should. It was indeed the calibration on the cameras behind the windscreen that hadn't been done properly.
  5. Apart from the map, what else would they change? We already know the 280 can push more with a map. Nice to see someone doing mileage similar to what I'll be doing
  6. Would be nice if it only cut the engine in the DGS when my foot is firmly on the brake rather than only just barely on it enough to stop the car. Its very easy at junctions and roundabouts for it to cut just as you see its clear to go. I can totally see how it might be beneficial in actual traffic, but not at junctions and roundabouts where you're stopped for fractions of a second. Also as others mentioned, that it stops the engine while the car is still moving is just weird.
  7. And its amazing how immediately you can feel the difference between sport and comfort!
  8. haha! I've been informed that it'll be a highly specced Superb and that they are delivering it to me and bringing my car back once fixed. In reality it might not even move if I have nothing to do that day. If mine's not back by Wednesday night though the loaner is getting 600 miles on it when I go to work Thursday! While taking a bit of a more detailed tour of the car today I could already see the early signs of spider web effect from people having cleaned the car with gravel and its only 4 months old. Its full detail and ceramic coat can't come soon enough.
  9. Yeah my existing insurer does, I'll have to see about my renewal though as I'd like to get this Steinbauer box connected up even it just to see how she fares. This garage apparently have the necessary to do it so we'll have to see. Doubt it'll be a 280 loaner as it was a bit of a rush job getting me anything. The first they could get anything in was going to be the 9th (I overheard them talking on the phone) but they've had a whip around and obviously got something I can take. Apparently it should only be a few hours.
  10. Grrrrr. Needless to say I'm not the happiest of little fluffy bunnies today. Context: I was told that my Superb needed a new windscreen before I collected it, which would delay my collection as it also needed the gizmos re-calibrating. No problem says I. My Issue: The windscreen has indeed been replaced, but based on the messages the car is giving me, I don;t think the second part of that job was completed in it's entirety. I don't recall seeing any errors while on the test drive. Error: Dynamic Road Sign Display Fault: Light Assist Error: Cornering Light (AFS) Lane Assist currently not available The Adaptive Cruise also says it is unavailable but only on the Maxidot and not in the Vehicle information. So now its going back in on Tuesday as that's the earliest they can get me a loaner. On the up side, I did a launch control and it made me go all tingly.
  11. It's got so many things that I don't think we're even options on my 2010 l&k octavia!
  12. Howdy folks. Just picked up my 4 month old 2.0 4x4 L&K Estate from Startin Skoda in Powick, Worcester. It of course comes in the best colour, Petrol Blue. Additions include: 19" Trinity Anthracite alloys, Panoramic roof, Heated multifunction wheel, rear camera, Smart Light assist with lane assist and blind spot detection, travel assist with traffic sign recognition and display, heated washer nozzles, retractable shelf, variable boot floor, Rear backrest release from boot, ventilated front seats, temporary spare wheel. Only driven it the 9 miles home so far as I've stuff to do, but tomorrow I can have a play. Got an "ACC not available" message on the dash and something about a cornering fog. Need to look at it more tomorrow. Hopefully its nothing I need to go back for. A car unlocking because you have your key in your pocket and touch the handle is weird and will take some getting used to. As will remembering to stop the car before I get out and wander away. Oh, and this car came with a Steinbauer power box, reportedly offering upto 20% more power and torque (to about 330bhp and 310lbft). It's disconnected for the moment as my current insurer wouldn't accept it and I only have 6 weeks left till renewal and yet another years NCD. Due in to Extreme Gleam in Droitwich some time in March for a full new car protection detail and ceramic coating (Siramik Diamas Professional).
  13. Thanks for the reply David. I actually called one of your chaps up after making that post and he corrected it for me. Thanks again. £59 a year for 5 years for a ROI policy compared to £100 a year for only 3 years ROI from Skoda. Bargain.
  14. Very late to this particular thread but it seemed daft to create another. Just purchased a full 5 year Return to Invoice policy for the full £33500 for my new car. With the discount it came to £295. My dealer would go to £300 for a 3 year policy only. £60 a year for the peace of mind that if something happens I'm getting my money back. Bargain. Nothing I've bought before not having such an expensive car before, but in this case it seemed more than worth it. Now lets hope I don't have to use it! I have of course just realised that I put in £33,500 and my invoice only says £33,495. Hopefully that won't cause me any issues. Probably best to ask tho.
  15. It's daft and I encountered the same issue on my 2010 octavia. My car was sitting not moving for the better part of 2 weeks and some numpty didn't realise the dash cam was still going. Got lots of lovely footage of an empty field though.
  16. Eugh. While Swift will cover the cost of re-calibration, they won't cover the Steinbauer box that mine is coming fitted with. My renewal is due in 6 weeks anyway so I'll just be a good boy and disconnect it until I renew with someone else. Don't see the point in missing out on another years NCD for the sake of 6 weeks. I know I could run it and just not tell them but I'm not that guy.
  17. Just heard back from my insurer (swift cover for both my cars) and they said if autoglass can't do it then I have to pay the skoda dealer to do it and they'll reimburse me, my standard windscreen excess applies. Seems to be the prevailing method.
  18. Done some googlefu and sorted out quotes for gap insurance (£295 for 5 years and the full £33500, easy decision. Skodas own is £400 and only 3 years), a new car prep detail and SiRamik Diamas coat as I'll be keeping the car until it dies (£450+£400) and I've run some sums on whether to bother with Regular or Super Unleaded and despite my "shoulda got a diseasal" mileage, the costs are not anything to worry about even if it only gets the exact same mileage. It should improve it a tiny bit so even better still. Now of course I can't find the last MOT cert for my current car. EDIT: and in the process of looking for it my 150 piece socket set empties on to the floor. Best.Day. Ever.
  19. Thanks for the info CoolC, will bear that in mind when sorting mine out.
  20. Not sure if they'll cover it, probably best to ask. This stuff has been around long enough now that most should have an answer surely? It deffo needs doing though. I'm collecting my car this week and got a call from the dealer to say that it's got a chip in the screen, so they are replacing the whole thing and having to recalibrate so its added a day to my collection. The other question would be if they do a replacement (and as most do) they use Autoglass, is it going to be a genuine glass or a 3rd aparty glass. Might not matter but with heated screens it might now.
  21. Ahh thanks Gizmo, gives m a little peace of mind that its not just an ebay POS. Need to get on to the insurance and see what the damage is going to be. Quite pleased that they only wanted about an extra £40 for a year with the new car considering the power and the age of my current one. This box might change things though. Just had a look at Dooka. About 90 mins away but needs 2 days which would be a pain that far away. There's beautechnique somewhere in the midlands (seems to be a secret batcave unless you're booked in) and I've also seen Extreme Gleam are not too far away. Need to find out more.
  22. Sorry to DP, but that's life. Money is in transit from Zopa/my Tesco CC to fund the purchase. Fortunate enough to be 32 with no mortgage and a decent wage otherwise I'd never have done anything like this. Just got a call from my dealer. Car had a chip in the windscreen so they are replacing the whole thing which because its heated and has the cameras it takes a bit longer to calibrate or something. It's being done Tuesday so it might now be Thursday that I collect. The magic box they've put it it is from Steinbauer (all the execs get them put in their demos apparently, lucky me!). I have no idea if they are any good, a rip off, make engines explode etc or whatever. Now it's time to have a punt around and see what I can find out. Also need to find someone midlands ish to do a protective detail.
  23. Oh yeah I know. Frankly I mighty fancy them when I'm on a straight bit and need to drop a few to pass someone. I've had a DSG for the last 6 years so I'm well used to tapping left and tapping back. Would just be nice to not have to remove my hands from the wheel. Though going from the 1.8TSI 160 to the 2.0 280, things might be a bit more urgent anyway! I thought about haggling to get the paddles added but as so many dealers are a bit clueless I just figured I'd rather get it done by someone who I know knows what they are doing. The wheel in there is the heated 3 spoke multifunction already so its not missing much. As I said, quite a big spec. I think its missing the smokers pack, and about 3 other things that weren't on my list anyway. That could come in handy!
  24. So I bought it. Did all the stuff, got a PX I was happy with (was expecting a lowball). Finish up and pay, do the last bit of paperwork. All set to leave. Then the guy who helped out my assistant with the sale comes back and goes,"Oh by the way, that car has a *mumbles*box on it". I said "Pardon?". He says "Yeah its got the box in it that makes it go 350hp, the MD (whos demo car I bought) likes them so got it added". No idea what box, who makes it or what its actually pushing. But yay. Now I need to do some research on VDCS and adding paddles should I go that route. Also, whos box is it, what does it do and will I be able to drive past a petrol station. ha.
  25. Cheers Nick. I think the only thing missing on the one I've seen is paddles. I'm sure its a pain and expensive to add as a retrofit :( listed at 33.5k, many options so list price is 43k were I buying it new, or 34.5k elsewhere. got 6,000 miles on it though.
