Front Assist frightening experience - anyone else?
I have spent my career in the electronics industry designing software and systems. In 4 months I have already had too many false positives from the front assist. I am not having some incompetent nerd sitting behind a desk drive my car.

You on the other hand can live (or not) with getting a rear end shunt when the car takes the matters out of your hands.

Front Assist frightening experience - anyone else?
I've just tried disabling the Front Assist and now get a persistent nag from the display that it is disabled with an orange warning triangle. Is it possible to get rid of those nags?

octavia mk4 2.0tsi dsg RS rattling noise drive train?suspesion?gearbox or?
Just the sound. It only occurred under particular load conditions. There was a long slight rise after a junction on the road home from work, and gentle acceleration up that in third gear always triggered it.

First MOT?
I also see a 3 year first MOT period. A little digging shows that the idea of 4 years has been proposed, but obviously not yet accepted. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/proposed-changes-to-make-mots-fit-for-the-future#:~:text=Data shows that most new, should not impact road safety.

I had this with a Hyundai Coupe - fortunately it was still under warranty as it needed a new gearbox.

Maintenance Questions +
With my mk II many years ago my dealer told me I needed a new AC pump because 'it was noisy' (£800+). I went to an AC specialist who said 'rubbish'. There is supposed to be a fraction of oil in the freon mix, they just did a recharge of the system (£60), putting in the due amount of oil and the problem was solved and for the following 10 years until I sold the car I never had a problem. ignore the dealer, when you think the AC isn't working as well as it might go to an AC specialist and get it recharged. P.S. when I moved and took the car to a new dealership for servicing they wanted to replace the torque convertor oil - the car is a manual ! In my experience the dealers are more interested in keeping their workshop full than in the interests of their customers. P.P.S. When the dealer did clean the filters, I had to spend a day driving with the windows open to stop my eyes streaming due to the solvents they had used to clean the filters.

TSi fuel economy
I checked the rev/speed on my 1.5 manual combi this afternoon, and in 6th gear doing 50mph (checked against a gps receiver) the engine was doing 1500 rpm. So 60mph would be 1800 rpm.
-
TSi fuel economy
I slightly disagree. I used to have a 1.8, and it was more flexible and an easier drive. With the 1.8 I would do most driving in 5th and 6th gears, with the 1.5 I have to drop to 4th much too frequently.

TSi fuel economy
Also a 1.5 manual - I recently did a trip from the NorthEast to SouthWest Wales. When I got to the M6 I was averaging 64mpg (150 miles). Unfortunately the welsh roads did for me and it was down to 60mpg by the time I finished. However it only used less than 1/2 a tank - so I did the outward and return trip on one tankful. Now if I had been foolish enough to get a battery car, how many stops would I need? how long would I have to sit and wait in total in order that I could complete the journey?

Black front badge
What effect does that have on the front anti-collision radar? I presume the aerial is located within the front grille centre piece.

Personal CD player
You will also need a USB A (female) to USB C (male) adapter. I converted all my CD's (and all my LP's - a bit more difficult as you need a special record player) 10 years ago for my Mk 2 and I have over 2,500 tracks on a single 16 GB memory stick. It saves being a disc jockey, you just plug in the memory stick and leave it there. Note that the USB C ports in the back won't let the music through, only the ones in the front.

Navigation and traffic info
It depends which country you are in. As you specify kms I presume you are not in the UK. In the UK the carrier of that service (Classic FM I am led to believe) has stopped being the carrier, and no-one else has come forward to take the franchise. So in the UK the traffic feature is currently not available.

Is an OBD2 scanner an essential item for an Octavia Mk4 IV owner?
I think that's the problem - we all want to adjust just one or two features and then leave well alone. And for that we have to get a piece of kit we will never use again (SnailUK would you like to sell me yours? - I have to adjust . . .).

Media Structure
Yes, the default is the first option alphabetically, Artist, then the first artist (alphabetically), etc. etc. which determines the first track played when the device is plugged in. Go all the way back up to the top option list, scroll all the way down to USB#1... and that gets you the folder structure. Hopefully when I next start the car up it will still be there and I won't have to find it again. The plan is to leave the device in permanently. Happy for now.

Media Structure
I put the USB stick back on the computer and it complained about the device. I let it scan and repair it. Put it back on the car and it worked - sort of. After I had put it in I had back up through the menu system until I found the option to just show the device (instead of selecting any of the sub groupings the infotainment thought it had found). Then I could go back down the directory structure I had created. The meta data then appeared after I went back to the main media/radio screen. So the final thing I haven't found - do you have to do a 'safe eject' before removing the USB device, or, as you aren't writing to it, is it ok to just pull it out at any time?

Media Structure
With my Mk2, all my media was on SD cards (the system would ignore the excess tracks after 1024, so I needed 3 SD cards for my complete collection). Despite the limitation on the number of tracks it was fine. Each track was set up with track name, album name etc; On each SD card I had a directory structure of artists and albums so finding a given track was easy (the filing system track name (with track numbers added) was slightly different from the track name stored in the file that the Bolero displayed - no problem). With my Mk4 it's a disaster. I copied the files onto a USB stick (all on one stick, I figured the 1024 track limit would be cured). The Mk4 ignore all the directory structures, says its all 'unknown', it then displays all the tracks '01 ...' then all the tracks '02 ...' and also seems to have a track limit, as the main part of the lower listing just has '...' for all the files and plays nothing. The tracks it does display the filing system name for it will play the tracks, but gives none of the embedded information (meta data) about the track. So, where do I find out how to structure my tracks so I can at least get the same standard of interface as I had with my 2011 Bolero?

Skoda Connect tells fibs
I just investigated connecting to an external WiFi - yes you can BUT unlike a tablet, which will use whatever is best (mobile network or WiFi), the infotainment will only do one or the other. If you connect to a WiFi it will drop the eSIM mobile connection. What I don't know is if it will go back to the eSIM if a) you drop the WiFi or b) you go out of range of the WiFi. On the basis that I don't want to lose the eSIM at the moment I've well alone. But in the future if I start getting charged for the eSIM I may drop it completely and just use the WiFi option.

That's useful. Mine shows me that it hasn't been updated for over 40 hours and refresh had no effect. So I started the engine and that got it back on line. I also discovered that, probably as a result of a system update, it was on the 'Guest' user. When I reset it to my personal user the 'location' came back and replaced the routing panel. Begs the question why the 'Guest' user can override the location display. It also implies that if someone puts the car on the back of a low loader and moves it, you won't know about it.

Skoda Connect tells fibs
Given that my drive is probably in a mobile phone reception shadow (which must be how the car gets internet access), is it possible to get the car to piggy back on my home WiFi?

Skoda Connect tells fibs
I was just playing with Skoda Connect on my tablet, and it told me the car was unlocked! So I pull some clothes on over my pyjamas, go out to the car to discover that it was locked all time. I unlocked and relocked it, went back indoors, and Skoda Connect still says the car is unlocked. So far I fail to see the use of it, at least its free. P.S. Also when I first used it the grid showed me the car's current location, but now it shows a route planner. As I don't have the sat nav, the route planner is a waste of space whilst the current location might have had its uses. BriSkoda first allowed me to edit my post, then wouldn't let me update it, so I just reposted the whole lot.

Can't establish 'Primary User'
The delay is strange - when I picked my new one up a week ago, the dealer was complaining that his workshop was always empty as the cars didn't breakdown that often. With my previous Skoda I've always found that the dealer was always keen to add as many extras to the job list as they could (like changing the torque converter fluid on my manual car, changing my AC pump when all it needed was a little oil in the freon mix, changing a £5 bush on the rear suspension with 1/2 hours labour for £200 - a DIY job).
