  4. Interesting, they also include the seat belt cutter. You can get them on flea bay for less than £3 each.
  5. No, you don't break the glass as an alternative to using the key - unless a situation arises when you really need to get out. I suspect mine will never be used, but if I need them then they will be available.
  6. That doesn't fit with how I expect the start / stop to behave. For the engine to stop I need to be stationery, in neutral with the clutch up. As soon as I depress the clutch the engine fires up. The brake and accelerator don't come into it.
  7. Apologies DragonFire, it looks like all the other posters are missing the point. Virtually everyone who drives mainly alone develops the habit of locking the car when they walk away from it without a backward glance. The fact that someone might be still in the car never crosses their mind. As such they are NOT going to disable the deadlock - if they realised someone was in the car they wouldn't have locked it in the first place. Personally I have two window breaking hammers in the car. These are primarily for my safety if the electronics fail and decide to try and keep me in the car, though I admit it would be a bit extreme to break the window if it just got a bit warm. The best solution for Skoda would be to have seat and / or internal motion sensors rigged to disable the deadlock if there was someone in the car at the instance of it being locked, though pet owners and parents with toddlers might want a different solution.

  9. I did try running an extension from the 12v socket in the boot to the front of the car so that I could run my Garmin Nuvi sat nav with its traffic alerts. However since ClassicFM stopped transmitting the traffic alerts I now use the ipad for navigation - its a lot more accurate at junctions for lane selection.
  10. Yes, but its not a splitter, its an adapter - which is why it doesn't allow both the SD card slot and the USB socket to be used together for data.
  11. From time to time I get various different systems popping up with 'unavailable'. Invariably they function within a few seconds. I think it is just a 'feature' of the software. It must load specific software modules when needed, and occasionally doesn't load them quickly enough for its own satisfaction.
  12. OK, it's labelled "info" and I just went and started the engine and sat there for several minutes as several notifications gradually appeared, one of which was the system update. I set it going and in another few minutes it came back and said it was all done. As it was going to do it in the background, I don't know why it had a problem with me setting it going whilst driving - if it had a problem with that it should never have given me the option. The next time I take the car out I will try looking at the "info" at the end of the journey and see if I can resolve any issues without having to sit with the car stationery and with the engine running.
  13. Every couple of weeks, a minute or so after I've set off in the car, the infotainment puts up a message saying 'software update available - OK / Cancel'. So I press OK. The infotainment system thinks for a few seconds before putting up another message 'you cant do that while driving, naughty boy' (or something similar) with a single button option to go back - where upon it reverts to my music selection. So the question is - has the update occurred in the background? If not, how am I expected to enable an update if the car always waits until I am driving in order to tell me that there is an update, but that 'yah boo, you cant do anything about it'?
  14. No, a splitter will not work in the front to give you extra data ports. If you attach a splitter to a normal desktop or laptop the system will install special software in order to recognise the device. It's not just a mechanical switch, it has internal electronics to enable the multiple ports to each have their own 'address'. Unless Skoda have preprogrammed the infotainment centre to recognise a splitter, you are shafted. However, as the rear ports are for charging only, they might just accept a splitter, though the charging current available will be shared.
  15. I like that idea. I'll use black insulation tape. Make sure you cut the tape into a neat circle, it will stop any corners getting caught by washing brushes. I think I'll also look for some black paint with flecks of metal in it. If I paint that over the front radar it should work like chaff and disrupt the front assist.
  16. I have yet to replace mine, but I foresee a problem . . . With the mkII I switched the ignition and wipers ON and then switched the ignition OFF when the blades were vertical - this gave me access to the arm and blade in order to change the blade. However with the mkIV the blades continue to self park, so just how do you position the arms so you can replace the blades?

  18. I had the same problem with my mkII 1.8. The general consensus was that the difference between all the various 5/30 oils (which it needed) was minuscule amounts of additives. Seeing as all you are doing is adding a small amount of oil to what is already in the sump, the differences in the additives becomes even more insignificant. So between services just bung in any old 0/20 that you can lay your hands on. As has already been said, the oil level is not critical, the oil pressure is a different matter. With my 1.8 I eventually established a routine of adding 1/2 litre of oil every so many miles/kilometers and the warning light never came on.
  19. It used to annoy me when I sat behind a car with their brake lights on, I considered the driver an incompetent inconsiderate twerp. However if it's a feature of the auto handbrake I can hardly blame them if my car is doing it as well. Will the brake lights come off if I manually apply the parking brake?

  21. What worries me is the fact that everything is 'fly by wire'. In an accident it is possible the electrics won't be working, the doors won't open and the windows won't open. I have acquired a couple of the 'window breaking' hammers - one in the front of the car and one n the back.
  22. This topic has been raised before, and all the usual comments are coming from the usual posters. So I shall repeat what I have said before - when I start the car the first thing I do is to disable lane assist and front assist. I keep a Triumph Stag for when the errant behaviour of the Skoda's software designers really annoys me. We don't buy new cars for the features, we buy them for reliability. Which is why I had to trade in my 2011 Octavia - it was consuming far too much oil and flattened the battery every couple of weeks, otherwise I would still have it.

With experience from a previous car, I also constructed a couple of side protectors out of hardboard to stop the sides of the boot collecting an impenetrable layer of dog hairs.
  25. When I researched it, the performance once the batteries were drained in hybrids looked pathetic - and it didn't take long to drain them. If you plan on keeping the car then there is also the cost of replacement batteries when they wear out (there is a limited number of charge/discharge cycles in them). I think battery cars are not the way to go for the carbon conscious, I am looking towards the synthetic fuels being developed and am keeping to the ICE.
