  1. problem solved plugged in the rear tweeters again, personally i think it now sounds better.
  2. cool, today is the first time i have really listened to it properly, and the sound seems to come from the front right only, before i could hear the sound from all around the car, now its only drivers front, will have a play later and see if i can sort it?? will try reconnecting the rear tweeters aswell.....
  3. as far as i know they will fit no probs, there is a black estate on here with 18" RS6 wheels
  4. thought that once finished, i will see how it goes, heavy rain today, and if its wet, will take them out and put some plastic is to help prevent this. Out of interest, when you have the speaker out you can see the inside of the door skin and a silver bar, which i think is something to do with the windows. When the window is down does it go that far, as what im thinking is putting plastic from the just above the speaker (where there is still plastic) and attach it to the door, kind of a cover over the top of the rear of the speaker, if you know what i mean?
  5. update, front speakers in, wired as per other post "helped needed asap" , fitted like a dream and sounds much better now, more bass to as there is no longer anthing behind the speakers, there was some white foam stuff, but took that out, no plastic behind that!!! so hope its ok in the rain, if not will put something in there!. Also left the standard front tweeters connected, just sounds a little bit better i think, but disconnected the rears, much better Overall, happy with the job, just wish i could have fitted the rears, still, will have to get those bloody star shaped bolts off, then will change them over cheers for all the advise

  7. just found this "Just finished installing my Infinty 652i's and at first I was confused as to what polarity the wires were. There are NO markings on the stock speakers so I performed a simple 9v battery test on the stock speakers: When the cone pushes outward, whichever tab the positive of the battery is connected to is the positive speaker terminal. Therefore armed with this info I could establish that: Drivers side: BLUE/WHITE = + BROWN/WHITE = - Passenger side: RED = + BROWN/RED = - I think someone earlier in this post has connected their speakers assuming brown was positive - This means you are out of phase!!! Hope this helps Dave BTW the Infinity's sound very nice!!!" answers my question, funny i did all this research before i started, but left it on my friends computer!!! der, so was going from memory, which by reading the above, my memory is ****!! hehe Just goes to show you can find all the answers by SEARCHING.....
  8. ok next problem Is blue positive or negative on drivers side??? I have wired it up as blue positive as i read this somewhere on here, and red is positive on the passenger side, however ive just noticed that the positive symbol on the standard connect block is for the brown and red on the passenger side and the brown and white drivers side???? Have i wired this the wrong way round, as it works which ever way round you do it???? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. problem solved, cut off the connectors, and put blue together and brown together, works a treat!!!! passenger side next
  10. done some more reading and just found this aswell > "One pair powers the driver, one carries a signal up to the tweeters, and of each of these there is a + and a -. So, if you want to use your existing tweeters, I believe you just need to "short" across each one, so you have a single + and a single -. Whether you do this by chopping the block off or not is up to how much reversibility you want. If you're disabling the front tweeters, you don't need to worry about the second set, and just connect up the first - again, whether you cut the block or just poke wire into them is up to you... As to which connector is which...the + and - are marked on the plug, IIRC, and the best way of telling which powers the tweeter is to plug them both on, then disconnect one set and see if the tweeters still work..." bascially, does this mean that one side of the plug is the speaker, and one side is the tweeter, and if you want to use both you need to combine the positives from both, and neg from both? If so, i take it blue is positive on the drivers site, and red on passenger side?
  11. Just removed the std front door speakers, removed the white foam cup thing and there is no plastic behind it!!!! however, on the speakers there are 2 VAG plugs, both have 1 blue/white and 1 brown/white wires in each of them, so 4 in total, what do i do for fitting them to the ones on my new speakers which is only 2 wires? Im currently searching the site, but so far ive been told you can push wires into the std plugs and this works, ie, positive on one plug and neg on the other plug?, ive also read that you cut off the std plugs and put the 2 blues together with the 2 browns? which goes against the other post? plus its red on passenger side? Any ideas please!!!! Cheers Gav
  12. I got these of ebay, some place in london, its gonna cost alot for postage etc to change them, so will change them over and see how it sounds, one guy on this post has already done it, and sez its much better quality. Lack on knowledge when buying!!! but yeah, if its too tinny, i will try disconnecting the std tweeters, if it is still too tinny, then will have a play with stereo, if it is still, then will have to think of ways to get some bass, prob a small sub, or 7 x 10's in the shelf. I was also gonna cut the plastic to see if that helps......... but if its an improvement over the std ones i will be happy
  13. so could i just turn down the treble on the stereo Also, just had a thought, ive not checked yet, but do the rear tweeters in the rear doors wire into the std speakers on the side of the rear shelf? im going to disconnect them at speaker end, so will still wire them in at the rear speaker end if they do wire in there (if you know what i mean?) and can the std front tweeters handle higher volume? what i mean is, i will combine the std mirrors tweeters with the door speakers (wires this is), but the speaker is an upgrade so will i blow the std tweeters? can the door ones handle more volume/power???? cheers for all the help cheezemonkhai
  14. im not sure what overly bright sound is, but if the ones in the footwell level will be lost, then surely the ones in the mirrors will compensate for that?
  15. I went for those speakers as they where the recommended ones on the pioneer site, i looked at a few other makes of speakers but they where too deep, and these come recommended by someone that has them fitted, so thought i would get them, good enough price too at £60. Those ones you advised have components with them, im struggling to fit the std ones, let alone ones with them aswell I thought about those heat shrink ones, but dont have a heat gun, or even a hair dryer, so they would be no good. Lunch time today i went to halfords and had a chat, wanted to see if there was something i could buy that would just let me plug in and go, or something like that, but this is not available, so after some chatting, i will use the speaker cable i have with the speakers (plugs attached for the speaker) and add some spade connectors to that, and then cut off the std ones in the car, and combine the 4 calbes to 2 cables, then add the other connectors onto that, and fingers crossed it will work. Im getting a crimping tool from a mate to do it properly-ish. Will also try disconnecting the rear tweeter, but would like to leave the fronts, will just have a play with the stereo...... Will let ya know how i get on!!! wish me luck............that sounds daft actually!! Ive never been one for doing stuff to a car, i was lazy and got the garage to do it, but i want to be more hands on with this one
  16. nah, mine is there hot or cold, its driving me mad!!! but why does it make the noise at 1,200rpm only??
  17. sorry not sure what you are on about mate, they are 2 way, and i was gonna replace the std ones in the front doors with the 1749's and the rears with the 1349's, and leave the tweeters in place? why will this cause a problem? Also, just found out that there is a maplin in town!!!! so will go there tomorrow with the speaker and try and get it to fit using something, checked the speakers out last night, and i have to plugs on the speaker, and a lead to plug onto those, and nothing on the other end, but from memory there are 4 on a std skoda speaker? so not sure what to do next
  18. whicked, cheers for that, will get them to check more closely next week.....
  19. cheers for the advise guys. It wasnt a mainstream dealer, more of a small garage up some back road, i had been there before as was recommended they do a good job, but are cheap, and yes when i had my BMW they helped me out a few times with some problems, however not going back since this!! they prob have never heard of a service manager!!! Tried to get him to come out in the car, but he is always too busy, and when he stood next the car, and looked under it, the car didnt make the noise, no matter what i did!!! I have the car booked into Skoda next week to plug it into VAG COM to check out another possible problem, so will ask them to have a quick look whilst they have it, mind, at £50 an hour, hope it doesnt take long!!!! Or i may put it up on a high kerb and crawl under to have a look at this bracket, maybe its nackered?? wierd thing is, when i test drove the car before i bought it, it didnt make this noise, i noticed the silencer was a little wonky, so asking them to straighten it, which it now is, but the noise as been there since, so i wonder if they did something when adjusting it??? Anyway, thanks again for the advise...........
  20. Ive got this rattle and is really peeing me off. When reving to exactly 1,200rpm and when the engine is under a small amount of load, ie, put the handbrake on and lift the clutch a little, just enough so the rear squats a bit, there is a ****ing rattle:mad: it sounds exactly like the exhaust if rattling against the underside of the car, very fast rattle. So went to the garage, put it up on the ramp and the exhaust is clear of the car all the way down!!!!! So, tried reving it etc to let the guy here the problem, and it didnt rattle!, so drove off, it started again!!!!!! then went back the next day, didnt do it! drove off down the road, did it again  but its not a bumpy road thing, as it does it with the handbrake on. Ive now been to the garage 5 times, and each time it stops doing it, but when im not at the garage it does it!!!! the guy has told me not to come back as im wasting his time!!! Is there anything else under there that will make this noise, i thought maybe the heat sheilds? cat? not sure................ but the look he had there is nothing wrong???? I just dont want to goto another garage and it stop again, blumin car
  21. cool, will ave a look, speakers arrived today, look good i dont think there is a maplin local? what sort of place is that? would halfords sell something like this?
  22. havent a clue what im doing, just got some info from some old posts, so will be fun!! hehe
  23. nah, when i sell the car i will put the std ones back in, so will 'bodge' the wiring, not 100% sure how i will yet, will have a look when i get it all out!!! cheers for the info, will have fun
  24. oh no!!! ive just spotted on eBay that they now do the new Golf GTi 18" alloys for £700!!! thats confused me now!!
