  1. Guys Quick question, ive got climate control in my 02 vrs, and every time i adjust the temperature the fan speed goes up or down depending on what temp i select. I like having my fan speed set at 3, and it really gets on my nerves when it changes. Can VAG-COM set the fan speed to manual? or is there another way to adjust the temp without the fan speed changing? Cheers Gav
  2. Ive done 140 confirmed on my Tomtom. It still have 1,000 rpm left before the redline. That is more than enough, normally i never go over 100, but wanted to see what it could do, sadly i got to a corner and had to slow down!!
  3. I think ive got a couple of vRS video's saved somewhere that I found when looking for mine, not in english though :( I could load them up if I know how
  4. If you got a good side shot of a red octavia i can photoshop it for ya so you can get an idea
  5. I cleaned my throttle body and the MAF, still had the problem, then investigated a bit further and found one of the air pipes was split. Its the one that connects to the bottom of the inlet manifold and a bast*rd to get to. replaced that. spot on now (touch wood).
  6. cool, will have to look at the share ware version as need to get VAG COM myself my car is fixed (touch wood) after taping up the hole in the pipe, drives lovely at the moment, loads more power, surprised what you get used to!! will take it in the garage next week to get it checked when i have my service/cambelt. but so far so go
  7. Found the problem, not the MAF, split pipe leaking near the inlet manifold causing mixture to run lean and idle high!!!
  8. ive got the same problem and i have a split pipe causing it to run lean and idle high, will investigate where it is exactly over the weekend when i have time, originally the codes pointed to a fault maf, but changing it didnt fix it, then i heard the air leak!!!
  9. Same error codes again?? however, found the problem. Ive got a split air pipe that goes down in between the inlet manifold, kinda under it, so will take some things off over the weekend to get to it and tape it up. See if that fixes it !!!
  10. OK, New MAF fitted, i was able to 'borrow' one from a mate that works in VW to test the car, so fitted this, got all the error's cleared. Tonight, warning light come back on. Not sure what the codes are yet, will find out tomo, but the previous list pointed to the MAF, which its not. What else could go wrong?
  11. cheers guys, i will have a look tonight in my handbook for the fixed specifications
  12. I beleive you cannot clear the codes with the shareware version of VAG COM, its only to diagnose a problem, rather than clear it. However, currently researching which lead to purchase The MAF sensor is connected to the airbox, big round plastic housing with a plug in the top, if you remove the airbox, you will notice air goes into the MAF, it has a crossed grate cover protecting the sensor, ive got pics but not on this laptop. If you have a small screwdriver (flat head) you can unscrew the 2 screws holding the sensor inplace and just pull it out instead of taking the housing out aswell much easier to clean aswell
  13. Thanks DGW, did spot that but havent a clue what those VW spec 503 00 etc mean?? As I dont know if mine is fixed or variable, and I plan on doing it every 10k, would I go with the fixed recommendations? So if I got a fully synthetic oil from say halfords, how would i know if it meets the VW spec? or is it best sticking with something like Synta 5w/40 gold fully synthetic like fatty5000? Cheers for the help, didnt realise there was so much to look into for oil lol, but its my first turbo car, so I want it to last
  14. Guys Ive got my 60k service coming up this month, well, it was actually due a couple of months ago but ive booked it now along with the cambelt, so there goes my overtime Im not sure what oil i have in the car at the moment, but i thought about using a semi or should i try fully synthetic? Also, how much to buy??? the dealer said 3.5 - 4ltrs, is that about right? Ive done a search but not much comes up about oil for a vRS so, I would be interested to know what oil you have in your beast (car, nothing pervy thank you :P ) any recommendations? 0w-40 or 10w-40? Ps, im not sure if its fixed or variable servicing, but plan on getting it done ever 10k. Cheers
  15. Cheers cheezemonkhai, but ive not got the CAI on now, got bored of it When cleaning it, I used contact cleaner from Halfords and sprayed half a can over the sensor. The sensor looked like 2 little beams of metal going down, prob 1mm thick. Ps, this was directly on the MAF sensor and not through the housing, i managed to unscrew it and pull it out, plus i didnt touch the sensor with the nozzle just incase. But the warning light was on before I cleaned it. Its looking like another
  16. Yeah, had it on vag com 4 times mate, no joy. Can get a new one from VW for
  17. Ok, ive had a CAI on the car for the last year without any problems, it was one of those eBay ones, but i got bored of the sound, so a few weeks ago i took it off and put the standard one back on. Ever since then the engine light has been on, im getting various errors which all point to the MAF being faulty!!! Ive taken the MAF off and cleaned it, also cleaned the throttle body whilst i was at it, and had the lights reset about 4 times but the light is still on The dealer is now advising that the MAF is fault and needs replacing, but how can changing the airfiler make it fault, i didnt even touch the MAF when changing the filters over?? Im very confused. Any advise?
  18. I gave my MAF a good clean, but the warning light is still on after getting it reset, not good, will try giving the throttle body a clean when i get a new gasket for it. then try resetting the lights again... if that fails, new MAF :(
  19. i fitted a CAI about a year ago and i didnt get a warning light, however when changing back to the std filter, the warning light come on, went to the dealer, said im getting a weak signal from my MAF sensor, and to give it a clean, also the traction control light kept coming on. Ive now given it a clean, and will do the throttle body too, then get the light reset, fingers crossed it will solve it, if not they recommend a new MAF, which is
  20. im in the same boat, now 60,000mls and ive been quoted
  21. i cannot find an answer anywhere about resetting the throttle body after cleaning it, well i can but there are 2 different answers? Is it: 1. Open the hood then open the driverside door. 2. Put the key in the ignition "on" position which is just before the start position 3. Walk towards the engine and listen to your engine. It will make high pitch beep for about 1min or so. You will hear your throttle body adjusting itself. 4. When all the sounds stops. Close the hood. Get in the car. Close the door then start your engine. 5. Wait about 20sec before you move your vehicle. Or these settings on VAG-COM? 01. Engine 04. Basic setting Channel 060 (098 on some older cars) Let the readings run full cycle until "adp OK" is displayed. Or both?? lol Which is the correct way as i dont want to take it off and clean it if i have to use VAG-COM to reset it, i havent got it yet on my Laptop. If i do clean it, and dont reset with VAG-COM, will the car still be ok to drive?? Cheers
  22. Just found this, could be useful to some people (inc me), although its for the V6, the cleaning info is useful though VWvortex Forums: DIY - Removing and cleaning a MKIV throttle body (throttle valve control module) Some pics of a dirty throttle body lol VWvortex Forums: Throttle Body cleaning pics and some Questions
  23. im gonna try and blag a free reset if i can, otherwise will work out what is cheapest/easiest to do.
