Spoke to a mechanic about the leaking doors in the Fabia
4wheel replied to Harry1212's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
The leak is back ! :( Same time of year and same venue (Butlins) I know, some will say it serves me right for going there in the first place but there you are. Car stood out in the heavy rain and water in the drivers footwel and also rear footwell. Anyway, put cheap nappies on the floor and drove home. Eventually found the water is coming in behind the clutch pedal so the doors are not the problem. Checked all the usual suspects like drain holes and they are clear but the chief suspect is the bonnet cable grommet. It looks ok but only a complete idiot would design a grommet in the bottom of a drainage tray. I will seal it with silicone as a temporary measure but definitely replace it asap. I poured water in the drainage tray and it runs out the bottom behind the front wheel so all is well there. Just a pain in the nether regions as there are so many possible leak points. -
What do you have your Central Heating set to?
4wheel replied to Neo_VR's topic in The Roadside Hotel
On at 06h00 off at 08h00. on at 16h30 off at 11h59 so off during the day Stat is in the kitchen which is stupid as always warm in there with cooking and whatnot so set at 20'C but often colder elsewhere in the house so wear a jumper as required. Temp seldom drops below 15'C even with heating off. -
Friar's Balsam will help for the infection. Foul stuff, burns like hell when you put it on but prevents infection. Used it successfully many times on all sorts of injuries including a grubby 5" wool hook right through my hand. I must ask though that you scream quietly as I am quite sensitive.

Rear End Traction - Skittish / Twitchy?
4wheel replied to Padredante's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Eventually had the 4 way wheel alignment checked and it was way out. They reset it to spec and now no more twitch. However - now I seem to have more road noise :wonder: Isn't life just a breeze !! -

Rear End Traction - Skittish / Twitchy?
4wheel replied to Padredante's topic in Skoda Superb Mk II (2008-2015)
Very interesting as my 1.8T 4x4 does the same thing. It has always irritated me so I will be taking it in to have new shockers fitted and alignment checked asap. Thanks for the info. -
I thought that foglights were preset to point down and on the verge to enable vision in fog.I don't know how they could be blinding unless incorrectly adjusted. I would rather be confronted by someone at dusk or in the rain with foglights on than no lights at all.(Even worse, sidelights only!) However, rear foglights are a public menace when not needed.

I did exactly that to my Octy 1 last year almost to the day and no wet carpets since.I know there are drain holes already but as far as I am aware they are under the rubber in a channel.I did the same in the corners of the boot lid just in case. I drilled 2 quite small holes in the middle of the door bottom and then just added a squirt of wd into the holes.Older vehicles all used to have visable drain holes in the doors so can't be all bad.. I had the same problem last year on my Octy1.I drilled 2 small holes in the bottom of each door just in case the water was building up in the door and spilling over into the footwell.Seems to have worked as no prob since.

So Angry , car got key'd over weekend
4wheel replied to Bowders1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
May I suggest that you avoid the insurance like the plague.I had some minor damage around Easter and although I had it repaired myself I made the mistake of advising my insurance.Come renewal time all quotes included an excess as the current insurer had me down as having had an accident. Even though they had not incurred any cost and it was a parking lot scratch I had one hell of a job to get that "non event" off my record.I will in future tell them as little as is legally possible. -

The entire EU immigrant population at least once a year ! In fact it is a major problem in the ROI .

Quite correct. That's why I drive in the middle of the road.Everyone gives way and I have the best of both worlds.I highly recommend it for relaxed driving.

Connect the CD changer power supply conections to a 12v battery. Then simply press the eject button and the CD's should be available. -
Hmm,tricky one.It would help if you were potty trained as a child. My question is. - If and when you find it does it qualify for a reward from the tooth fairy ? Perhaps just a little something next to the toilet roll in the morning ? If you do recover it you could always drill a hole in it and hang it around your neck - like a sharks tooth, very macho.

Sorry bit late with the response. Yes mine was an Ldv style with removable doors.and sheep rails at the back.Very nice for taking the dogs to the beach. Also had a conventional swb with removable hard top and 1600cc twin port motor with twin choke Weber carb.Very nice to drive but a mother to climb in and out of.The roof is low and with the tub sides was a tight fit.Wifey refused point blank to even try and get in.Shame really.

Food for thought. There are english speaking Commonwealth citizens out there who have proven British heritage going back to 1066.Their fathers and grandfathers fought for Britain in both world wars. They were brought up as British citizens, drive on the correct side of the road and see the UK as the mother country. But ! They are not even allowed to apply to immigrate to the UK.No chance unless they have 10 university degrees and 40 years experience.However- anyone from the EU can stroll in,claim benifits (using an interpreter),be given a house and free everything else and have no connection or loyalty to this country whatsoever. Now is it me just being a grumpy old man or is something wrong somewhere.

I have had a number of these in warmer climes, including a pick up version complete with sheep rails ! Be warned though, they have one quirk which can be lethal. Given half the chance they will spin 360' and then some. A wet road and a rounabout are the ideal conditions to find yourself facing the other way. My son returned home wise eyed one night having spun around twice and ended up facing the vehicle behind him. They also nose dive under heavy braking with another excuse for the back to come around. Apart from that they will go almost anywhere with the tyres deflated and are pretty tough in an accident. Left mine out in the rain one night only to find it half full of water in the morning.Actually had to bail it out.Started first kick and off I went,no probs.Good fun all round.

Absolute nonesense.! It is definitely the tilt of the earth. If you are on the tilted side your tank will overflow. On the other side it will take more. Everyone knows that. That's why when people with a limp on the right leg go to Austrailia they limp on the left leg..especially if they walk backward.
