  1. I spoke to BCS today and will get a full turbo back system for my vrs . Still not sure if should get the sport version , it sounds really good in the video but hard to say how it is in real life, I dont want to draw too much attention to the car. How loud is it on the outside when not giving it too much welly ? Think it was Nige I spoke to, really nice guy and he suggested a hybrid of the the sport and prestige system which they would make for me. Sounds like best of both worlds but just don't want to regret not going for full sports system. Plenty of chav corsas and OTT scooby and evos etc which you can hear coming a mile off but sound like crap tbh.
  2. Just put an offer in for one on ebay ... Did it crack at the weld ?
  3. Has anyone fitted one of these to a fl tsi octavia, i believe they flange on the tfsi is slightly different to the tsi.
  4. Tensioner, cover, bolts, any sealant etc.as shown in the HS kit. Its not a lot of components and with about 2-3hrs fitting the price works out. All OEM components hence the 2yr warranty.
  5. The Audi layout requires subframe removal etc to get at the parts whereas the Octavia is far simpler.
  6. I've approached a local VAG specialist about the tensioner problems and pricing up a replacement. He spoke with his VAG contacts in the area and again they haven't had any problems in the north east. He did get part numbers and prices, the tensioner is on its 3rd or 4th revison now and is covered by a 2yr warranty. He's priced the job up all in for around £200 which is not too bad I think. Got my car booked in for next week. Despite having the warranty till next year I plan on keeping the car longer than that and just for my own peace of mind I think I would rather get it done.
  7. It might only be a supposed handful in a sea of tsi engines but this failure does seem to be appearing quite often..
  8. Welcome, sorry to hear of your problems with the car, as mikey vrs said there is a thread on the octavia forum that i posted about this problem as i've heard several owners with the same symptoms as yourself and the cause being failure of the chain tensioner.
  9. Despite all of our concerns when looking at the problem in context of the numbers of failed components in relation to the number of engines on the road it would appear to be minor. This is off no benefit when your engine is the one in however many 1000's that fails and your left with a huge bill but it appears there is not much we can do. If Skoda would at least offer a discounted fitting cost or something for the updated part as a goodwill gesture especially to those of us who are out of the factory 3yr warranty but they don't appear to even acknowledge this as an issue despite VAG technical bulletins etc recognising the design flaw.
  10. Is there any way to get a hold of the technical bulletin to show them as when i spoke to him yesterday he had never heard of it. He is a sound guy so I don't think he would not tell me if he knew of a problem.
  11. On the alternator side of my engine there is a sticker on one of the covers which has 01/09/09 on it. Maybe the engine build date?
  12. All going well I'll be able to come too. My first meet
  13. I spoke with the after sales manager this morning at Sibury Skoda in Cramlington near Newcastle. Basically my warranty is a Skoda approved warranty so would cover this type of failure. He hasn't had any failures come through their dealership and they have sold a few TSI vRSs. His advice was not to worry about it as I'm covered, the cost of doing the work would be in the hundreds with the labour rates a main dealer charges. So for now I'll leave it but it still hasn't alleviated my concerns that my engine could destroy itself with no warning.
  14. Im going to speak with the Skoda garage and see what they say regarding their liability if it does fail. Will keep you posted
  15. So having read quite a few horror stories about the chain tensioner failing which results in a new engine being required i'm considering changing mine as apparently the updated ones hopefully fix this issue. My car has only covered 24k miles and was just recently serviced by Skoda, no issues at all so far but hearing these thing things does cause some concern. I have an extended warranty through the Skoda dealer but its not a Skoda warranty as I was led to believe but a third party one. Past experiences with these type of companies is not good so i wouldn't rely on them to foot the bill if a failure were to occur. Anyone done this or know how much it should cost?
  16. Quick introduction to the Briskoda community, got my vRS today! Initially I wanted a blue one but the red has really grown on me. Now just need to add a few touches to make it stand out bit more from the masses of taxi Octavias we have here. Also any recommendations for servicing in the Newcastle upon Tyne area? Car wont need next service for a while but still good to know where people are taking theirs.
