I have Garmin webcams - they’re not paired in any way to each other, and the one I have for the rear is a small one with no screen. The only wires are for power. The app on my phone connects to both of them for config, downloading images etc.

Would you mind posting which model(s) they are? Cheers

  2. Car did an update today and lost audio. It also reset the users. Managed to log in but am no longer a primary user.

Have tried several times with the two key process but it fails each time.

I've sent Skoda support an email, but if anyone has any tips in the meantime I'd be grateful.

I think it's just their end, in which case I'll just have to wait.

Yes,  there's no legal problem with getting a third party towbar fitted.  Demand an EU "Certificate of Conformity" with the car.  That will give you a load of type approval data, specific to your car, including what it can and can't tow, braked and unbraked.

You might, however, run into warranty problems if anything goes wrong.

Yes, that's the bit that worries me.  The wording in the brochure under towing doesn't mention warranty implications:

Please note, if a tow bar or tow bar preparation is not fitted on the car, the VIN plate may not show any towing weights and the car will never be eligible for towing. As such it may not be possible to retrospectively fit a tow bar if the car is not fitted with tow bar preparation at Factory. Please speak to your Retailer
to confirm the exact towing eligibility.

But the warranty section 'Exclusions and limitations' mentions non-original replacement parts:

Damage resulting from the use of non-original replacement parts.

Haven't looked yet but maybe I can find the warranty Ts & Cs online.

  4. I'm just about to close the deal on a new-from-stock 'Kodiaq L&K 2.0 TSI 190 PS DSG 4x4'.

It doesn't have towbar prep, and the dealer has told me they can't fit a Skoda folding towbar, because no suitable kit for that exists.

However, the VIN plate shows it has towing capacity (presumably braked) of 2000kg:

    Kodiaq-VIN.jpg.424980a2b17c895ffeedf7908c3cc58b.jpg

and the latest brochure lists 750kg unbraked and nose weight of 100kg.  So perhaps Skoda aren't yet zeroing the VINs for cars without towbar prep?

So, for this car, am I right in thinking I could get an independent to fit a towbar without any issues?  If so, I'd go ahead and buy the car. If not, then I'll keep looking.

I'm guessing they may all need to be re-synced

Not sure the latest process but it used to simply be all windows fully down and continue to hold down for a couple seconds and then the same for up, holding up for a few seconds past closed.

Don't use one touch up/ down, need to fully depress the buttons and keep hold holding

Yep, my Superb needs this procedure every 3 or 4 months. Does the trick every time. No idea why though.

  6. Mine came from Tow-Trust, a TS626VK detachable swan neck.  I bought it from disount towing supplies on ebay, but Tow-Trust's website page is here:

    https://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbars/skoda/superb/TS626VK-superb-est/2010+-+2015

I don't think there's any particular model for 4x4s (my 2012/61 plate is a 2.0 125kW 4x4) and the tow bar fitted fine.

(Edit: you're asking in the Superb MkII forum and you have an Octavia in your avatar - just checking, but for Octy's see here: https://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbars/skoda/octavia)

  7. It's been a while since I got my rear shocks and springs (illness/too long a story), but I put them on yesterday and today. One side a day's enough for an old crock like me.

The difference is absolutely night and day. The unladen height is now 400mm - before, it was around 360/365, so a good 35mm gained.

The car used to make a kind of chirrup or squeak, but doesn't any more.  Also, going over speed bumps near where I live - the wide sort, about 8ft wide, not the abrupt rubber-like ones - the car now doesn't squat down on reaching the normal road again.

Interestingly the springs supplied with the car were 1K0511115BL - White/Green/Green dots. New they were supposed to measure 365mm, but mine were at about 345 after I took them off. Explains a lot about the sag, I guess.  Also, it does indeed seem like they are weight range 6, not 10, judging by the car being a confirmed 1JA, and everything else on the car being standard - i.e. no rough road, no factory tow bar (I fitted mine myself not so long back).

So I'd like to say thanks to everyone who shared their info and expertise on here - special mention to @DrCorbyLee, but also @chimaera and @Carlston.

I haven't had the bike rack on yet - which is really what prompted doing this - but I'm pretty sure the added height and lack of wallow will help with that.

Should have done it years ago 🙄

    Briskoda rocks!

  8. By way of an update, my parts (from AutoDoc) arrived about a week after ordering and are currently in the garage waiting for me to get my arse in gear, which is in turn dependant on the rain stopping.

I've been measuring the ride height over the past couple of weeks and it seems to vary by +/- 25mm depending on who knows what. Was mostly higher in the warm weather we were having, but not exclusively. Max was 385, min was 360, so I'm not regretting going ahead to do the replacement, as it's always low and arguably needs to be a bit higher (or stiffer) for towing/higher load.

More later. Might put the winter wheels on while I'm at it.

I think you're right that energy can't be destroyed. But who really knows - physics is in a state of disarray at the moment, so much of what was thought to be fact turns out not to be. Dark energy anyone?

Frankly I'd just settle for some diesel today 😞

  10. I don't know but it'll exclude a heck of a lot of gamers with self-builds if Windows 11 requires a TPM module.

Some motherboards do have them, and some others have a TPM header to add a TPM module. They're currently about £15, get them before they skyrocket in this age of shortages and price-gouging.

If you have the power tailgate this also needs coding in Module 6D.

This option disables the remote boot release (on my MkII that's via the button in the centre console and via the key fob).

I did code this but in the end I decided to undo it, so I can tilt the bike rack out of the way, press the fob to open the boot, then tilt the rack and bikes back up again. That way I don't have to rest the tilted bikes on the usually muddy floor while I walk round to open the boot manually.

The only thing that sticks in my mind though is if this coding affects anything else tailgate-wise?
