1.8 TSI lumpy idle when cold and tuning?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
If it would be caused by carbon buildup on the inlet valves, how is it that i just notices it when the car has the elevated idle? I bought the spark plugs from mister auto. Sure i could go ahead and replace all 4 coils, but i dont really see what i should do that since the car runs just fine once it passed the first 5-10seconds when the idle seems to be a bit unstable. -
1.8 TSI lumpy idle when cold and tuning?

How does your car behave on a "cold" start? As i mentioned i only notice this on cold starts and it dissapears once the idle backs down. I tried googling some and many people seem to have different problems with the lumpy idling, however many people just say that is how the TSI engines are nowdays.. -

1.8 TSI lumpy idle when cold and tuning?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The spark plugs are brand new and was replaced about 5000km ago, so was the air filter and oil +filter. Yes 0,2liter per 1000km, im not entirely sure about this though since i bought the car quite recently. I'm running 5w-40 Bolk oil, for a maximum of 150000km. Regarding the oil consumption, what should i try if i would like to reduce it? Regarding the lumpy idle, this only occurs when the car is cold and the tickover is elevated. Once the idle/tickover settles at around 800rpm the lumpy running dissapears. -
I own a Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI 160ps 2010 that has done about 85000km. It runs great once it is hot, however on cold starts it runs quite rough, almost like it is missing out every now and then. It had a large service with new spark plugs for about 5000km ago. Apart from the rough/lumpy idle it runs fine. I'm really happy with the car and the only other thing is that it does consume some oil, about 2dl/1000km, but from what ive read this is quite normal? I'm also thinking of getting a stage 1 remap to the car, is this something that should be avoided or perhaps even recommended? It would be nice to get access to some extra horses under the hood

Thanks for the information. However I'm a bit curious on what differs between two engines of the same generation/type where one would fail and one does not. Is this related to running the engine on the long life service, ie up to 30000km before oil change? There must be something more than just a bad design and bad luck that would cause a chain tensioner to fail at 50000km or run for 200000km+

Just got a10 reg 1.8 tsi L&K
Snowman89 replied to promethian's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Not sure what a 10 reg means, but i have a 2010 Octavia 1.8 TSI elegance that i just picked up days ago. I really like the car this far and i will be following this thread -
Thanks for moving the thread. I had a look under the hood today and realised that the fuel filter was NOT at the position i thought it would be.. In the pictures ive seen the filter should be located on the left side of the engine, which it is not.. So have anyone else tried and replaced this filter? If so, where is it located?

I picked up my "new" car earlier this week, it is a Skoda Octavia MK 2 1.8 TSI FL 2010 that is just shy of 50000 miles. The earlier owner mentioned that the last service was done early 2015 and the next was scheduled to be around begining of 2017. But since the prices for service and maintenance on cars are quite high I'm planning to do the service myself and earlier. From my understanding the upcomming service would have covered oil + filter, engine air filter and also the interior air filters, new spark plugs and also the brake fluid. I also plan to replace the fuel filter since i figure it could be a good thing to do. Is there anything specific that i should do while I'm at it? When doing the things above, should i think of something special? Is there a specific procedure on how to fill the engine with oil or how to prime the cam chain tensioner after a oil change? Since the cam chain tensioner is a hydraulic version i figure a oil change could cause it to run "dry" for some seconds, causing lack of tension to the cam chain. Also the cars brakes feel arent really perfect, it feels kind of spongy and does not really provide the driver with a nice feel of control over the brakes. Is this the way the Octavia's stock brakes is supposed to be? Ive only driven newer cars in the last couple of years so I'm not confident to say that this is wrong or correct. The car is about 6years old and from my understanding the brake's have never been touched. It did however just pass it's MOT the day before i bought it, so the discs and pads should be fine. Any ideas and helpful advice is greatly appreciated!

Skoda Octavia RS brake disc size?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Yepp, i havent even taken delivery of my winter wheels yet, i will receive them tomorrow. I can get a ex-demo RS or one with 0km thats in store at a dealer for about 25000-29000euro. But if i want to order a brand new one i would have to pay an additional 3000-4000euro, which i dont really feel like right now.. So ill just keep on using my Leon for some time more. -
Skoda Octavia RS brake disc size?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Simply cos in Sweden the 184hp is only availble in the RS. So if you are saying the 184hp diesel has 312mm you are stating that the RS 2.0 TDI (184hp) has 312mm. -

Thanks! That means that my brand new wheels wont fit, crap.. Well i better stick with my Leon for a couple of years then -
Skoda Octavia RS brake disc size?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
It matters because if it is 312mm or less my winter wheels will fit. Above 312mm it wont fit. So that would be a cost increase of 1000-1500euro.. -
Skoda Octavia RS brake disc size?
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
I must say i'm very confused by this post.. The 2.0 TDI 184h is only availible as vRS? So if the vRS is supposed to have 340mm discs and the 184hp 312mm discs then what? :S -
As the topic, what size are the brake discs on a Skoda Octavia RS? Ive read 312 at some site and 340 at a different place. I know that the Seat Leon is using 312mm discs and i suppose the Octavia should to? Since they have basicly, if not the exactly, the same power output. Then only the Seat Leon Cupra is using 340mm brakes, so it wouldnt make sense if the Octavia is using 340mm brakes.. So does anyone really know what brakes the Octavia RS is using? Is the petrol and diesel using the same size?

Today a friend told me that my headlight had a broken lightbulb. Which i was very suprised to find since i was expecting the Fabia to give me a heads up if a light bulb broke, which it has not done.. According to my manual there is a warning light for broken bulbs and it also states that my maxidot display should show where the broken lightbulb actually is located also. But im not sure if its just my manual that is wrong or if that actual feature is not working on my car OR if the fabia doesnt really have the feature that the manual states. So please help me, does the Fabia 5J with maxidot give out some kind of warning if a lightbulb go out?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what is it with the heated seats? They replaced mine when i had it in their workshop for some months ago but never said more than recall and warranty..
-
Maybe the VRS kit is easier to sell, but ive had mine out for 150 for quite some time now with just some people sending PM's.. Then mine is barely used and about 6months old

TMC Tuning Box - Fabia TSI 1.2 105
Snowman89 replied to Dozzy's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Ive had my car in for some warranty work after i installed the box, but i removed it before i left the car at the workshop. They didnt say anything and i doubt that they can see it. The TMC unit gives the little 1.2 engine quite a bit more punch- 3 replies

Snowman89 replied to dean0188's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)

2013 Monte Carlo 1.2 TSI 105 engine code?

The code i think he would be looking for is CBZC. When is the "new" 1.2 TSI engine supposed to be released? -
Fabia 1.2 TSI 86 - TMC box tested!
Snowman89 replied to Snowman89's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk II (2007-2014)
Sorry for bumping my old thread.. But it seems as if there really is no interest at all in the TMC box.. I even posted "open for offers" in my FS thread without any replies.. What would be a good price for a buyer?
