the truth about electric cars
This could become a reality here that anyone with a pure electric car could stumble across, but not for the same reason but is still a real potential problem because of power restrictions, or an cyber attack knocking out the payment system etc.

@Ootohere if thats the case, you'll find out pretty soon, I reckon.

Still sounds as if they are playing down the battery issues, but as you rightly say, you will discover if the reading is correct or not, and if you have got increased range then they have possibly tweaked the battery settings in the software update.

the truth about electric cars
@Winston_Woof yes I have noticed this myself and I'm preparing myself for a big price jump again shortly as I think this is the result of RAC highlighting that despite the wholesale price has dropped by a large margin, the retail prices have not and they accused retailers of price gouging. There is a supposed hike in fuel duty coming soon experts have warned of rising fuel costs as well.
-
the truth about electric cars
@Winston_WoofI think it is more likely the move from diesel to petrol is more down to people's fear that the tax on diesel may have large hikes in coming years as a possible measure to drive up the BEV sales. Diesel is blamed for most of NOX emissions. The strategy for Net Zero might eventually change to fall in line the others for a reduction in emissions as it is looking like it would fail to hit the target date anyway.

the truth about electric cars
So essentially we are both in agreement here, maybe I didn't make my point clear enough. Yes the stats do show that the UK market does indeed favour HEVs and PHEV over pure electric which is exactly the same point I was making but with caveat that the both HEV and PHEV are still going to be using a lot of fossil fuels, so as far as emissions are concerned have far more in common with pure ICE then they do with pure electric as they will both still be producing tailpipe emissions.
-
the truth about electric cars
Oh, OK, well in that case shouldn't those figures be added in to those for their respected petrol or diesel counterparts, because they are extremely unlikely to driven solely as electric cars only agreed they will help to reduce tailpipe emissions, but as you said in an earlier post, the UK government is targeting zero tailpipe emissions and thus, HEVs and PHEVs cannot do that
-
the truth about electric cars
Actually, the above figures are also IMO not telling the real truth as I believe that you currently cannot buy either HEV or PHEV with diesel as the main power plant, so that means that those cars have petrol power plants which should really be added to the total figures for petrol, is that a fair statement to make?

the truth about electric cars
@wyx087 If you read my posts, I have already said the discredit and the bias comment referred only to the US data that you posted. I also posted the graph from that US data that clearly shows that BEV sales are in decline in the US. As to the European data, I also agreed that if the German results were ignored that there would be growth, I never said that the European market was in decline, that is your spin on what I said. I do agree however that in my first post I never made it clear the vested interest and the discrediting of other, actually referred to the US data. In later posts I said that those comments actually referred to the US data ONLY and you still ignore that point. So that was my bad, just as it is your bad when you later claimed that your comments were only related to the European data, which was not made clear in your first post on the subject. Now, can we please stop slagging each other off and dragging this thread downhill??

the truth about electric cars
If you were only talking about European data, then why post the website link that only gives US data, which is where that graph came from?
-
the truth about electric cars
Read what I wrote again, I said that in Europe BEV sales would still be on the increase IF the slump in Germany was removed from the figures, where Germany has seen a 18% drop in the sales of pure BEV cars, so on that basis I would class that article as an example of a platform with a vested interest trying desperately to discredit those that are actually reporting the truth (at the time) and put their own spin on things so as not to water down the narrative. IE. the first website you linked if you did not already work that out.

Discrediting was not aimed at you, it was the site that you linked to.

the truth about electric cars
I wrote the following The ultimate aim is eventually to go totally zero tailpipe emissions and the only way to currently achieve that is to go with either BEV or Hydrogen and looking at the figures above, in the US, the rise of pure BEV has currently peaked in the graph and is now in decline while the hybrid and PHEVs are growing, which means they will still be burning fossil fuels.

Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
No need to wait until tomorrow or whenever to find that out, its here and it was a lorry fire. Not all fires have to be electric, other types of fire can cause just as much havoc given the right circumstances. the truth about electric cars
Yep, fair point, but then HEVs and PHEVs are not in the strictest sense of the word EVs, they only have a very small EV capability whereas a BEV is a true EV, it cannot use any other form of energy to propel itself, unless it is parked on a downhill slope, in which case even an ICE can also take full advantage of the gravity effect and thus generate zero tailpipe emissions.
-
the truth about electric cars
Interesting, but if one looks solely at BEV, and ignores the hybrid and PHEVs then the trend is in fact downwards, so the headlines are not actually lying. You seem to be taking the view that any car with any form of electric assistance or totally electric equates to achieving zero tailpipe emissions, which is just pure BS. The ultimate aim is eventually to go totally zero tailpipe emissions and the only way to currently achieve that is to go with either BEV or Hydrogen and looking at the figures above, in the US, the rise of pure BEV has currently peaked in the graph and is now in decline while the hybrid and PHEVs are growing, which means they will still be burning fossil fuels. In the European data, it states that BEV sales would still be on the increase IF the slump in Germany was removed from the figures, where Germany has seen a 18% drop in the sales of pure BEV cars, so on that basis I would class that article as an example of a platform with a vested interest trying desperately to discredit those that are actually reporting the truth (at the time) and put their own spin on things so as not to water down the narrative.

Are we about to have the pay per mile system intoduced after all?
There is now so much smoke on this subject there has to a fire burning somewhere, this is a definite win for the YT Vloggers as they have been saying this was coming while others were in denial and claiming it was clickbait and that they are biased etc. Well I shall continue to watch them and use them for information as it seems that they are not currently gagaible and so insiders seem to be leaking information to them to get it out in the wild first. I don't automatically dismiss everything that they have to say, I filter it and store it until it is confirmed or reinforced by other sources. Here is a link to a petition against it being introduced as it seems that it will apply to all cars, regardless of their fuel, so drivers/owners of ICE will be hit by a double whammy as it is now looking like the fuel duty is going to be hiked and they will be subject to PPM as well, which is not fair at all. It seems to be highly likely that this will now happen as another way to plug the alleged £22billion black hole in the nations finances.

@Ootohere I agree, the first video is pointless and is just effectively greenwashing the problem by giving the illusion that it is the main 12v normal car battery that all cars have which is causing the problem, rather than addressing the real issue and being honest with their customer base. A software update is also not the ideal solution that an owner wants either, for that does not resolve the issue and as we all know software is not infallible anyway, given the right sequence of events it can fail.

@Ootoherethank you, it has been my experience that all car makers will spin things in their favour, that is never truer than when that applies to EVs as they have so many reasons to do so now. Nothing must deduct from the narrative of going electric and another is the massive fines, particularly in the UK that they face if they fail to sell their quota. As to EV sites, well I have long said that they do have a vested interest and so anything negative about EVs that they post is a kin to stabbing themselves so they will not publish negatives, it's against political and their own narratives. What is required is a site that pushes the truth about electric cars, good and bad then people will be truly informed.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I'm not so sure about that, veneers are used on real top end luxury cars because they can book match veneers so that large panels such as dashboards can be perfectly symmetrical so that both sides of the dashboard are identical. The veneer is bonded onto real wood before being sanded, lacquered and polished.

Haha, its one better than a Rolls, it has an umbrella in both front doors 😆

The "plastic" wood in my mk2 was much better all round than the silver or the black trim that comes as standard, but real, polished wood is better still.

I used to work for a company based in Ulverston and would have to travel up on a regular basis either taking customers up for a factory visit or to attend all sorts of meetings (I remember there is or used to be a crystal glass works there and I have been around there and watched the craftsmen create some beautiful crystal dishes etc. The hotel of choice the company used was the Swan, a few miles out of Ulverston at Newby Bridge, lovely place, top-notch food.
