how to stop the radio changing stations

Featured Replies

I have the standard radio in my 06 Fabia estate (elegance trim - if that makes a difference)

is there any way to stop it automaticly changing between local stations?

on my commute both of the local versions of the same station can be recieved at both ends of the journey but the radio always chooses to change to the local station nearest to my destination just after I pass the last junction that would let me miss any traffic problems:rolleyes:.

using the traffic service is no help as both stations broadcast traffic info at the same time so I get the stronger signal which will be the wrong one.

is there any way to disable this "helpfull" feature of RDS and just have each station manualy programed?

I have not manage to find a way and both of the dealers I use were stumped by this, I am hoping that you will know better :)

Press and hold the TP button (I think), to get into the settings menu. Press that button to scroll through the options until you get to 'LOC'. Change that to 'Off' (or CD track skip button or volume adjuster?), and you radio will stick with whatever station you tuned it to.

Cheers! it is the TP button, I saw that option but didn't think it was what I was after - will give it a go on the way home

close! I re read the book and there were the instructions:eek::D

dont know how I missed it last time, the oprion is REG (presumably for regional) and the settings are AUTO or OFF - so surprise surprise if you want it to automaticly change you select OFF and if you dont want it to change you select AUTO :( - who came up with that:confused:

oh well its sorted now, thanks for the help

Thanks for that one - that particular feature has been winding me up for a while. The RDS features in the radio in my older Comfort-spec were much easier to use than the Symphony unit.

Hmm - I tried changing the "REG" setting last night and it hasn't seemed to make much difference.

I'll try "LOC" next...

Incidentally the thing that really winds me up is that this feature not only changes the channel you're listening to, but overwrites the Presets too. It doesn't seem to go back to the station you set it to originally, even when you're within range again.

I had this issue as well  but got mine changed as faulty :D all OK now

Have this happening as well, even when changing the settings it still does it, mine goes back to the original settings though, the thing what winds me up when Im listening to say Radio 4 on FM and the traffic news breaks in, most cases it works and flicks back but sometimes it stays on and you get the radio presenters talking about what they did last night etc.

I believe tha LOC only adjusts the sensitivity of the search function of the radio; that is to say how strong a signal needs to be before it recognises it as a 'station'.

REG will allow the radio to alter its tuning when the station to which you are listening gets sufficiently weak. It will then go on the hunt for the same station, but with an alternative frequency.

setting the traffic "flag" on a station is done manually (this causes your radio to tune to that station) and is cancelled manually, and should be done immidiately by the presenter ,very often they rely on an automatic switch off which is done on a timer usually 20 seconds

One of our stations got a warning from the regulator about this

Yes I think you're right about the LOC -I don't think that helped either. :(

The REG function makes no difference as far as I can tell.

The trouble is that:

(a) the Symphony seems to think that all BBC local radio stations are the same, unlike the RDS of the radio in my old Comfort-spec Fabia, which was clever enough to be able to tell the difference.

(B) it also overwrites the presets so you can't go back to where you were.

:(

hmm, mine has worked - sort of:rolleyes:

it does hold the station - unless it actualy looses the station - then it still flips to the equivelent and the preset is lost. well sort of:rolleyes: if you change to a different preset then change back once the station is in range again it does find the correct one.

this is not great but its a slight improvement:confused:

I think a new head unit may be coming my way:D
