Hi there. Just joined the forum after buying my Fabia Vrs approx 4 weeks ago.

I'm looking to get it re-mapped soon so before I do, I was considering getting a PD160 intake for it. Haven't realy looked through the forum yet and my question has probably been answered elsewhere but has anyone actualy noticed an increase by fitting the uprated intake???

How can it improve anything if the inlet into the airbox is still the same size but the mouth for the cold air intake is increased???

I have one and I noticed the difference, it is only marginal. The inlet of the airbox is the same size but the actual 'mouth' of the inlet of the feed is double the size so in theory it lets more air in. That is my understanding of how the 160 intakes work.

The key to improving the performance and more importantly the operating temperature of a tdi is to get as much air as possible into it. Therefore anything that will help achieve this is of great benefit. A pd160 air intake is pretty much essential if you are remapping your fabia vRS as some of the standard unmapped vRSs run at up to 155bhp and beyond that you definitely need as much air and cooling as you can muster. Buy one and happy motoring beckons:thumbup:!

I have a PD100 and the neck was a massive difference to the PD160 one

Mine was alot smaller

I noticed a difference , throttle response and the overall drivabilty

I would say yes , get a better air filter and you will be laughing

There is someone who has been selling these cheaper than a dealer on here

So look about on here and you could get one cheaper than a dealer

Three or four years ago, I'd have said yes. They have a minor benefit for any engine, if only to reduce the amount of smoke generated under load. But they're £75 now, so I wouldn't get one unless I was buying it to support other engine modifications, where the extra air is definitely needed...

I haven't seen a PD160 intake, but if the above (in bold) is true, then it cant, as the inlet diameter will just act as a restricter.

Unless of course the 130 intake 'mouth' (the very front bit) is the restricter, letting less volume of air in than the intake diameter of the airbox can handle??

As you can see in this thread (from nearly two years ago - PURLEEZE use the search!!!), the ribbed section of the PD130 is actually narrower than the inlet to the airbox, so the restriction isn't the inlet to the airbox. Pressure is lost along any fluid transfer system, so ideally the pipes / ducts should taper from inlet to outlet to counteract this, as is exactly the case with the PD160.

There are already dozens of threads on PD160 'theory' - please look at them!

For £75 I'd think a piece of silicon tube (The ribbed expanding tubing would work too) to the front mounted intake funnel connected to the airbox would do the job just fine.

You could even modify the airbox to deal with a larger bore pipe going directly into it.

Basically it would be a poor mans CAI with wider intake and cost well under £75.

Don't forget, the mouth of the PD160 is bigger than the neck, so anything you fitted would have to attach directly to the slam panel. But otherwise what you say is true (in fact the Forge prototype didn't appear to be much more than that! )
