What a bad day!

Featured Replies

Well - I'm sure some people already know.

Two Days Ago - I managed to close a road. 2 x Fire Trucks and 2 x Police Cars.

My 1997 MK4 VW Polo Saloon 1.6 CL with 139,000 Miles is now no more.

- I was driving from my house to a local town. No problems - Nothing. I started to go up a well known hill and there was a really bad smell - Petrol.

I instantly pulled over at the top - Smoke started to come through the air vents and within a few seconds my car was an Inferno. (With a Full Tank of petrol) - I phoned the police and Fire crews instantly.

I left the car and decided to stop traffic at a safe distance - This was the end result.

Tbh - I'm happy to get out alive. It seems that the fuel line went

The car had FSH and MOT untill Feb - Flew through the last one without any issues.

So Sorry guys - This should now explain my signature and why I haven't been online in a while.

Many thanks,

Rob

Sorry - Phone went up in the blaze. I lost all my Sound system in the boot all my Xbox 360 stuff and my sports gear.

Nevermind - Main point is I'm still alive.

- I didn't make a claim with the insurance in the end. They said £400 - I would rather not make a claim on my policy and keep it clean as to be fair I didn't do anything wrong.

The car itself has now been sold for £90 so isn't anything to do with me. Good old Swindon Scrap ;)

Oh **** :(

Glad you're ok though!

Bummer about all your kit :( don't suppose you can claim off the house insurance?

Also make sure to keep your letter from the DVLA and ring up if one doesn't arrive, don't want a tax demand in xx months;)

Thanks for the advice.

How can I claim the tax back that was on the car? If I don't have the tax disc...

OMG! that's really some bad stuff. Just glad you're fine.....

That's a bugger.

Sorry to hear that.

Phone the DVLA and explain.

They are actually quite helpful at times

Wow. Glad you stopped in time, and a shame about all your gear too.

Thanks for the advice.

I was also reffering to the fact that you will be informing the DVLA that you are no longer the keeper of the car, if you don't get the letter back from the DVLA saying that they have updated their records within a few weeks, chase them, and keep the letter safe. There have been a few instances on here where the DVLA have chased and fined folks for not taxing the cars in the following year when they have sold/scrapped their car. Last thing you want is a £40 fine in a few months :(

Poor sod :(

Still i suppose the main thing is that you ok.

Phew - good job you're OK though

Have to save up for Nomex gear now :( :)

Good to know you're ok.

I see there's a bit more left of that than there was when my ex's 2CV "burnt to the ground". Literally nothing left but chassis, suspension and rims.

Glad your okay matey.

Glad you're OK dude!!

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I have now got a new car for work - Cheaper to run basically as it's a smaller engine.

I will post a few pictures up tomorrow. I looked at:

Skoda Fabia 1.2 Htp 12v

VW New Polo 1.4 S

Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXI

Basically - The car had to be 5 doors and be good on petrol (Civic is good enough at using that).

I didn't want a Derv again and didn't really use the whole saloon size so it was time for smaller.

All in all - I got a great deal. The car was 2nd hand with 1 previous lady owner, only 19,000 on the clock, FSH, Small Damage (1 Curbed alloy).

Ok - Lets see what pro people on here can name the make and model from this: (Sorry Kinda Dirty) ;)

Wow. :eek:Glad you're ok mate, :thumbup::thumbup:some quick thinking there.:thumbup:

As mentioned it may be worth checking your house insurance, as to cover of items temporarely removed.

PS. it looks like a little Fabia of some sort?

Not a Fabia.

House insurance not covered as there is no proof that they were ever in the car. :thumbdwn:

Oh, not good, but if they had been nicked how would you prove they had been in the car? Just a thought.;)

Wow, scary stuff. Glad you're okay. Bummer about your gear though :(
