Driving in heavy rain with sunglasses on?

Featured Replies

My dad was telling me one of his random stories as dads do...:)

and he said if it starts chucking it down with rain while your driving and you cant see anything but heavy rain on your windscreen, try putting sunglasses on and you can see clear as day!

anyone else tried this? apparently its really effective:)

Is he confusing sunglasses with polarised glasses? I can see polarised glasses helping, perhaps?

That's what it will be :)

I wouldn't say it makes much difference when it's *that* heavy , but when there is plenty of spray on the roads , having glasses on does improve the contrast and makes it easier to see.

Polarizing glasses are great at night in the rain as they eliminate glare.

Deffo works, Stevie Wonder does it all the time!

Clear polarizing lenses might help, but most polarized lenses are also tinted, for use as sunglasses.

Me and a colleague were driving down the M40 many years ago when a very good electrical storm was approaching. We were driving back from working in the Nissan car plant bodypanel manufacturing shop so we had welders glasses in the van, to protect our eyes from all the flashes from the spot welders. We put these on and we could see the road really well, as well as being able to watch the lightning storm with ease. It does work.

Putting the wipers on works better

Once the storm had passed over (or we passed under) it got lighter again so we just kept them on and probably looked like a right pair of...:)
