major wear on tyres????

Featured Replies

has any1 else had this problem or is it just my car??

the insides of both front tyres had major wear, where the tread meets the sidewall. the rest of the tyre is fine and evenly worn its just in the one place. its not a tracking problem as that it fine. i was talking to some1 and they sed its coz the suspension 'flexes' and all fabia's do it so i thought i would ask. sorry but i have no pictures of the old tyres that have done it

Is it outside edge? If so, I'm pretty sure that this is down to power steering as most cars with power steering will wear the outside edge before the rest of the tyre.

I'm not trying to state the obvious as I'm sure you do, and have... but, check your pressures! I maybe wrong but can't this be caused by under inflation?

You'd be surprised how quickly you can loose pressure in certain weather conditions.. like if there's a cold snap.

I went up Notts from London last weekend.. pumped tires to 30/32 on Thursday evening... yesterday they were ALL in the low 20's..

I will agree with that the low profile seems to leak air quite easily if subjected to a couple of the warning diagonals on roundabout approaches, Or just rough A and B roads, I check mine every 4 days now,

I would suspect knackered console bushes....

when mine went my tyres were wearing on the inside edge...

when i had them replaced... the wear returned to normal....

Sounds like console bushes to me too. Girlfriend's car had to have both the fronts done. Waste of good tyres too!

Ive just had the tyres replaced on my Fabia due to this very problem , and I also suspect that its down to 2 years of driving on worn bushes - tyres 3 years old but bushes were replaced last year. The tracking was checked but was only 2mm out on one side.

my tyres wear very quickly too,i'm on my third set since april last year:rolleyes:;)

I got a strange thing going on with my tyres at the mo'...

Drivers side front was squealing at low speeds when cornering (to the right). I assumed it was worn, so proceeded to whip it off. Nothing wrong with the tyre, in perfect nick with plenty of tread left on it, so I swapped it with the passenger side one. Now it squeales when cornering to the left. LOL weird or what.

are they Dunlop tyres ?

mine went the same way, right on the inside shoulder

but agree that you'll probably find the console bushes will be U/S

they're not continentals are they? they have a very bad habbit of making you sound as if you're driving it like you stole it, even though you're going slowley! lol...

What is the console bushes and where abouts are they, and were is the best place to get them from. Tyre pressures were all at 30psi, they were not dunlop or continentals.

mine are michilins and i've had no problems with excessive wear although having paid top dollar you would hope they would last! Try fitting a strut brace to help save wear on the inside of the tyre.

Just seen you've got 175 bhp and god know how much torque running through those tyres stating the obvious theres a good chance that cud have something to do with it.

Tyre pressures were all at 30psi,

All under inflated:rolleyes:

Nah' ... just some cheap crap. Thing is the tyre in question has been fine for ages. It's only recently it's been playing up.

Got 4 new contis on mine , they are fine , and never had a problem with contis on this car or on my vRS Octy.

30psi is quite soft for a vrs. SWMBO's fabia vrs is running on conti sport contact 2's and are running at 36psi and they are wearing dead even.

I usually keep mine at 32 or 33 psi all round.

Should i up them to 36 ?

yes 36 at the front , 34 at the rear , i've never had any problems runing at this pressure

to the OP , the console bushes are fitted in the alloy console , the rear mounting for the front lower arm/wishbone is fitted into the bush , and takes a considerable amount of abuse , especially remapped VRS power/torque, the bushes are notoriously poor , a good upgrade would be to fit the Seat Ibiza Cupra bushes , these are a solid bush and last almost for ever

OK they were underinflated but the outside would of gone as bad as the inside did 2 if it was that. this was right down nearly through cord onto metal but the rest had over 3mm of tread left. thanks ric04vrs that helped alot i will put it on the ramp 2mora and have a look.

if it was the bhp/ torque that was wearing them down evenly but quickly then that would of been ok its what i would of expected, but its coz it was just the very inner edge that is what made me wonder if any1 else had it.
