One Ex VRs (Possibly)

Driving back from work Tuesday evening got overtaken by van. As he pulled in front a large ladder fell from the top, bounced end over end towards me. Hard on brakes, then all went pear shaped. Hit ladder, crossed road, into 2 foot high verge, initial impact on nearside (@40mph) then car flipped over front offside and came to rest as you can see. Airbags did not go off.

I got out to see the Van slow down, then bugger off. Did not get Reg, only partial company name.

Awaiting insurance report, but open to advice on possible verdict.

(55 plate, 34K).

I hope it's a write-off but recovery guy reckons an easy rebuild.

Jesus . Glad you're ok. You want to make sure you claim for a change of underwear aswell.

Ouch! Hope you're ok. And I'd get a report in to the local police station ASAP. Did you keep a hold of the ladder as evidence?

Jesus man

Glad you're ok then, hopefully you can claim off the partial company name, surely (Not shirley) the police will have a database with names and stuff on like that, hopefully anyway :o

Hope everything gets sorted mate, god if anymore vRS's roll there isn't going to be any of us left! :thumbdwn:

b4stards for driving off, finger prints off the ladder?????

Whoa .........thats effin dodgy.

Glad your ok

And you got a set of ladders for your trouble as well.

Thanks guys.

Police and ambulance came out. Police took details but nothing seen or heard yet. Took insurance company legal department no time at all to open and close file. Reported accident on 20th, recieved letter today stating lack of third party details = closed file. Some investigative powers!!

I know quite a few local tradesman and they will be asking around to see if anyone has lost a ladder!!

shocker! glad you are alright mate. Cant believe the air bags were not triggered!!!! You have to be uninsured or dodgy as hell to watch someone flip their car and drive off!!!!!

Can't believe that mate - overtaken by a van?!?

Just kidding, puts my recent mishap into perspective.

I'd get to the local police station and report the accident.

There is always the very slim chance that the van driver has done this already so that insurance details can be exchanged (you may call me optimistic).

Start some research into the partial company name as you may be able to work out who owns the van. A notice can then be sent to the registerd owner asking who was driving.

There are possible offences there such as insecure load and failing to stop/report an accident but presumably you don't want to make a claim on your own insurance unless you have to.

Are there any witnesses?

Have you got protected no claims?

I was on the way to the local dealer to get the random engine management light sorted for the fourth time so I was driving like a saint in case it dropped into limp mode again. Bloody typical!!

The police did attend the scene and took the information but I have had nothing back from them yet. Will be trying later tonight when the PC comes on shift. Have done a bit of digging around on't interwebnet and have a couple of local companies with the same name to "visit" when I can put a seatbelt on and have a drive.

have they put up one of those A-frames that says "accident here (date) please call (number) if you were a witness" ?

may help to jog someones memory... what a **** for driving off...... hope they get him... he will have the book thrown at him if they do for not stopping....

Better late than never... But did you get a look at the ladder? Companies usually stamp these expensive items with some form of logo or company name etc.

Worth looking into, as no doubt the swod responsible will be fairly local.

You can have that van driver up on charges mate for fleaing the scene of the accident as well as getting HIS insurance to pay out (If he had any). W*nkers like that are a menace to our roads and you'll usually find are the ones NOT paying insurance, road tax and MOTs, so score a point for the good guys and get him!!!

Oh god sorry to see and hear about this and i hope you get this sorted quickly with a happy ending:thumbup:

Dear god. Glad your ok, could have been easy to have recieved serious injury. Hope they catch the T0$$ers who just drove off. I would a few charges could apply, unsafe loads, leaving the scene, etc. Go get'em.

Pleased you're okay.

Considering you flipped the car the damage isn't as bad as I would have thought.

There have been many pics of pretty serious incidents on here and it is testament to the Fabia build quality that many of the occupants involved were not seriously injured and the car structure seemed relatively intact and undamaged.

I hope you get the b*^&%$d.

Thats awful.

Glad you weren't injured.

I wonder if the van driver actually knew it was his fault ?

Or if he seen you crash, and seen you get out the car so presumed you were ok and drove off.

Still, a to$$er either way. :(

Post the details of the van you managed to get and someone on here may know of or have seen the company about.

Hope it all gets sorted asap.

The damage seems to be confined to the engine bay which makes it a lot easier to repair.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's fixed.

transit van and ladders , probably pikeys

looks nasty , glad you're OK

Damage doesnt look to bad, new wings, front end, bonnet etc.

Glad your ok tho mate.

on the bright side you got a free ladder!

You have just got to trace that van/company

Or it is a YOUR fault claim on the insurance

If you are fully comp then you will get it repaired, but will pay for it over the next five years more than the cost of the repair

If you are TPFT or less then bloody hell

I have just gone through all of this crap lost all no claims (3yrs) and premium increase of <300 py for some ***** in a range rover hit and run

Police, although I was in the house and this **** smashed me up and ran off, it was I who was breathalysed, I who had to produce insurance tax and driving licence, and they can not do anything because no reg number or witness

Fully comp, I foolishley put it in for repair. all sorted in a week paid first £150, and now I am paying more over the next three years than if I had sorted the damn thing and paid myself

But then the insurance do you for not reporting an accident if they find out

Oh and they find out all linked data bases

So please please try your damndest to find the culprit for your own sake

Pay for an advert in the press, for witness and offer a reward (£50)

I am please it is just the car that is damaged and not yourself, hope you are fully Ok, any aches and get straight to A&E, as when they find the Barsteward you can then claim for your long term absence from work due to whiplash

Regards National

Thanks all for the support.

I am gradually visiting all the local companies fitting the same name. I also have a contact in a certain car history checking firm who is helping me out.

Still waiting for assessor to check out the car. After being promised a 48 Hour descision it will not be before next Wednesday or Thursday now

That is awful :(

On the other hand, you walked away :) Hope you get it all sorted with a minimum of fuss.

No CCTV on the road where it happend or in any town en-route?

No name on ladder?

No ID Tag (health and Safety req now) on ladder?

You can do a partial company name at the company house web site you know?

WebCHeck - Select and Access Company Information

Say the partial you have is *****Seal, do an enhanced search for *seal......... may help!
