Variable service

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

sorry if this has been covered but my VRS has just told me I need a service in 2900 miles or 17 days.

Which is it? I've only done 7685 miles in the 12 months I've had it, so do I get it booked in for next week (when I'm off work anyway) or do I wait for the miles to rack up?

Cheers in advance

Rick

That doesnt sound like variable servicing, are you sure the car wasnt switched to fixed by the supplying dealer at pdi.

He said it was set to variable and " I'll see you in 2 years!!"

But it does seem fishy that the car is exactly 12 months old in 17 days

Mine did this too at just over 10.5k miles at the end of April (which is just before the V5 registration date) so as good as 12 months old.

Rang the local dealer (who isn't where the car came from) to book it in having checked the code that I was definately on variable servicing - the reply went along the lines of "it's obviously been set up wrong at the start it shouldn't need servicing that soon. I wouldn't bother, bring it in at about 16k"

It's certainly running fine with lots of oil (as much as I can tell from the frankly useless dipstick) so I'll happily leave it a while longer, even it does bong at me everytime I start it and it demands "Service Now!"

Took it to the dealer, they said, oops, sounds like we didn't switch it to variable servicing.

Plugged it in and sorted it in the matter of minutes.

Cheers
