CD-Player

Featured Replies

I've Been thinking of getting a Cheap and simple CD player to put in my Fabia for a while, I dont plan to use regularly so this cheap model will do me, I plan to fit it myself, is it that hard, how do I take out the one that is in there?, There are two accesories I need for it which halfords stock.

http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_details.asp?type=3&vehicle=470&Id=18942

I think my Fabia has 8 speakers, my last one did, but this one doesent have a Front/Rear Fader and I never hear any sound coming from the back, it's a Classic+ (Saloon only), Any advice, suggestions and tips?

Should be a piece of cake, as long as the headunit has standard ISO connections. You will need a facia adaptor, and possibly the VW wiring kit. Get them at halfords to.

You need some special brackets which your local dealer should have.

IIRC, they're removal brackets for "grundig" h/u if you get them in halfrauds.

You'll also need an antenna booster if you want to listen to am radio, again available at halfords

Grundig keys weren't available from Halfords when I went, so I did a 'Blue Peter' and used cable ties (the type to keep hub caps on). Just remember to pull the ties 'outwards' (i.e. to the left and right of the stereo) while pulling the unit away from dashboard.

This only work with the 'slit' rectangular holes, not with round ones (where I've used a combination of screwdrivers before in the past :D).

P.S. Don't bother with the witty replies, the word had a standard meaning before it was taken into the venacular

You are not SERIOUS about buying one of those things are you ?!?!?!!

Have a look at my website and I'm sure I can come up with something better !!!!

I keep cheap Kenwoods, Panasonics, JVC, Sony etc in stock.... As well as Fabia bits.

Thanks for all the Info guys, AS IS SAID ^ It's only for occasional use and A big expensive brand name is unnesesary. I do have classic Fabia guys :), Why not have a cheap and nasty stereo aswell :) Also while im posting, if anyone knows of leather seat covers that look like you have original leather (Go right around) Can you tell me abiut it?

Ah ok, It just seems to me that I think I really dont need some things, when I look at my Credit card statments i think to myself, What did I want that for? :) but Ill get a nice one. I was thinking of a complete re-work of my car, Full Leather seating covers, CD-Player, Alloy wheels (Not avaliable in this country on saloon) and A wood or silver Trim, All that still with Classic+ Labelled on the side :), not to mention the dynamic blue :(

VAG cars usually use standard ISO connectors that come on aftermarket stereos. Before you buy the VW adapter wiring loom from Halfords or wherever, check the wiring loom that comes with the stereo you are buying and see if you are able to unplug the red and yellow wires (usually bullet connectors) about half way down the loom and swap them over (red to yellow and vice versa). This should save you a few quid as this is all the VW adapter does.

Another thing, if you buy pioneer, the release keys you get (with a little brute force and ignorance) remove the standard (rectangular holed) stereos without damaging them. Worked for me anyway.

Ignorance is the game :) Thanks for all the info guys, Just one quick question, It's not ICE but do such things as Lether seat covers that look like you have factory leather exist?

Not that I'm aware. From experience, they all look like covers. The best thing you can do, a bit expensive I know, is try and find a Vag car that you like the seats of in a breakers. You might have to clean them up but for a couple of hundred quid you'll probably be thanking yourself. A lot cheaper than buying new.
