Changing Instrument Panel Colour?

Featured Replies

Hi I would like to know if I can convert my fabia instrument panel from green to blue like the VW. Any ideas or references please?

Thanks.

Takksi - If I remember correctly, there's a PDF floating around somewhere with instructions for changing the colour. It does involve removing the entire dash and actually changing the LEDs though, I think... which is usually enough to put most people off!

Try playing with the search and see what you come up with... and welcome to the site :) :) :)

BTW - I've split your original post into a new thread, as it wasn't really connected to Q asking about bumper cutting quite some time ago :)

Thanks Stimps :)

I'll post whatever I find (if I do  )

Sorry mate, already been down that road when I first joined and got my Furby, the consensus is , the complete dash needs to be removed, the PCB containing the green diodes, need to be removed ( they are soldered on ). the new blues then need to be soldered in place & the whole shebang then re assembled.

It will need someone who is good with a soldering iron & persistant, and got time.

If you decide to do it, then post Piccies and let us all know what it looks like and if it was worth it.

Happy Decision making.

Steve

BTW welcome to Briskoda.

:) yes it seems quite a hard task. I will probably end up not doing it at all, not for the hassle but for the side-effects. I presume that the car will end up with rattling from all sides of the dash once it is dismantled. I:'ll keep you informed anyways...

thanks

Used to be simple in the old days when all you did was change a filter....

yeah i know the feeling!!

that's what I had done with my maruti!

Also dont forget that one of the reasons the blue illumination looks so good is the red needles. Problem is the Skoda needles are white, so unless your going to do a complete dial change, it probably wouldnt look so good.

I have seen some Blue cockpit dial displays for the speedo, rev counter and fuel gauge on e bay, for the fabia, only problem was speedo in KPH, & max was 220.

BTW with blue dials and green diodes, what colour would you get ?

Sounds to me like a case of pass the sick bag !!

maruti? Wasn't that a licenced suzuki SJ manufactured in india?

I will be changing my dials for white L.E.D's at some stage i can't see Y the complete dash would needs to be removed, just the clocks and front of the heater unit.

The needles are red in the vrs ;):D

Goes well with the green actually.....

if you have a look at a saxo's instrument panel the needles are red over a green lighting if i'm not mistaken. a friend of mine had one and if i remember well they looked pretty good.

however i have a feeling i'll give up at actually trying to convert the colours - it will be too risky having to interfere so much with the vehicle!

What is wrong with green? I can remeber when green illumination was quite the trendy thing!

nothing wrong with green actually. i guess it's just that us humans (i'm one of them :( ) are never happy with what we have!

anyways... in reality, at least from my side, it's because i really like the VW lighting, it's really cool and looks technological with that really blue background. but in the long run, i think, it makes your eyes uneasy cos last time i got a ride in a golf of a friend of mine and after a few minutes i couldn't focus on the instrument panel anymore.

I also love the VW lighting BUT, its a skoda be proud and stick with green, keep green calipers as well.

green calipers.... the brake calipers you mean ? I don't think mine are green.

sorry refering to the vRS's, but some people change those to red or something. but with regards to the lights I will have to wait till my vRS arrives and I get a good idea what they are like

No you can rest assured the green of the instrument panel is nice. They're similar to the saxo's if you've ever seen one of them. The only difference is the white needle on the fabia as opposed to the red needle of the saxo - the latter of which, in my opinion, is better.
