rear wiper problem

Featured Replies

Hi there, on my Fabia MK2003, i noticed the rear wiper started to come on itself, even when the wiper stalk wasn't switched onto the rear.

Even with the front wipers off, it would sweep the back window.

Sometimes it would do one wipe, wait 10 seconds, do another, other times it would wait 3-4 seconds.

Any suggestions ?

Hello,

I noticed this a couple of months ago on my '07 SE, and assumed it's an 'undocumented feature'.

The way it works on mine is, if I drive to work in the rain for example, with the front wipers on, pull up in the car park, and select reverse to back into a parking space, the rear wiper will wipe once.

I assumed this was a little nicety to help you park. It doesn't do it under any other circumstances.

If you put it in reverse with the front wipers on the rear will come on, its in the manual. Alot of newer cars do this.

The problem is that it wipes when riding forward on it's own (while stalk swiched off).

Dodgy reverse light switch, then? Can you get someone to see if your reversing lights come on at the same time too? Or if you know what you're listening for, you can check if your cabin ventilation goes into recirc mode...

Thanks, I'll check it out...I have to wait till it shows up again.... Could the problem be in the stalk (short contact or so ?)?

Well, that's the other option, assuming the ECU's not goosed. Although replacing the reverse light switch (if that's what it is) would be a lot easier than replacing the wiper stalk, I think...

It seems the swich is working properly (at least it doesn't swich the backlight on it's own)....Sometimes the cabin ventilation goes into recirc mode on it's own as well.are these two (cabin circ and the rear wiper) possibly somehow in relation
