Hello Can someone advise?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been a Skoda convert for 4 years now since

getting a Y reg 1.9TDi Octavia estste. It has been a

very reliable work horse, but has recently started

making some unusual noises from the dash board,

which I'm baffled about. It's an intermittent cliking

noise which sounds like the indicator at double speed.

This morning a message appeared on the CD player:

MECHANIC!

Is this something anyone has experienced before?

And how can I resolve it?

Thanks

M

Hiya.

You'll get on better posting this in the Octy 1 forum. Add detail as follows:-

I suspect the 2 issues are unrelated. Does your car have a CD stacker or an aftermarket head unit?

Do the indicators work properly (include flashes from central locking remote)?

Hello and Welcome to Briskoda...

I'm not sure about the Skoda head units but I know there is a problems with other VAG models with the symptom you are describing, a loud clicking from the CD player itself..Is it still playing CD's ok??

Another possible is the switch on the heater that goes from recirculating air to air from outside, if the clicking is coming from the passengers side this is a possible cause

I think on a Y the head unit is a radio cassette; if the car's got CD capability it's a stacker in the boot.

Thanks for the suggestionsThe CD player was working fine yesterday. It is indeed a staker in the boot. The indicators work fine. But curiously the clicking noise may go for a few days then come back. Haven't checked the central locking remote

Welcome :)

Try this for the "mechanic" fault then; remove the CD cartridge, leave overnight, and re-insert cartridge. It's worked several times for me with "surface" or "mechanic" faults from the stacker.

Is seems to be associated more with CD-R(W)s and magazine freebies than with bought music or voice CDs.
