Hi,

Can anyone list comperehensively which models, diesel & petrol, turbo & normally aspirated, can be converted to use LPG? There's loads of bits & bobs about 'you can't do turbos'/'it makes turbo cars work better', and lots of other 'myths' but no-one is saying anything cast iron. Personally, my car is a 1.8tsi so i'm contemplating it, but it's the cost of conversion...

...which leads me nicely onto my other question: does anyone have any idea how much it is to convert an Octy II? I can do the maths on how much i'll save in fuel, but no websites give you quotes or even a rough idea?!:thumbdwn:

FSI's and TSI's dont work with LPG. For one, the compression ratio is simply too much for LPG to not combust spontaneously, and besides that, FSI works like a commonrail diesel, with a high pressure fuel ramp that is simply too much for LPG to take and not self ignite.

Agreed, it's one of the noisier petrols around. Also having chain timing adds to that.

The good side is that it will probably last forever, since it's built like a diesel and has to take less beating than one.

I thought it would have been belt as per 2.0 tfsi.

I have the 1.6.

OK, didn't realise any of the current VAG engines used chain timing, I wish they'd use them on everything!

As far as LPG goes I have a feeling you'd have to be doing loads of miles for it to pay off.

I don't lnow if savings can be had with car tax or not when LPG converted or not?

Would be interested to see detailed costs and savings of a conversion though, if anyone has had one.

I thought the tax was increasing by the same amount as other fuels. It would be a huge increease if it were suddenly brought in-line with the other furel tax levels...

I understood it to be it was increasing to the same levels as normal fuels. I'll see if I can dig out where I read it/

yup I heard and read something about that. I think some minister said "you've had economical benefits (enough to cover conversion costs etc) and now it's time to be consistent". I always said this would happen.... f*****s
