MFD2 test without Vag-Com

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I have recently purchased an MFD2 on ebay, and prepared a GPS antenna with the correct connector. So, before reprogramming my car with a VAG-Com kit, can I plug the MFD2 in, simply to see if it powers up/the LCD works etc.?

Yes you can, and the unit will actually work. The VAG-COM bit is done purely to tell the car an MFD2 is fitted.

and to setup the MFD2 correctly if it isn't already.

As Manny says though you can go ahead and fit it no problem and it should work. The only thing that may stop you is if the MFD2 is coded for a sound system.

thanks. Unfortunately I cannot get the new fascia ordered until my local, newly franchised Skoda dealers in Worthing get their official training. I went there this morning, and I might as well have been talking swahili !

Was it mentioned that they now exist?

You could try the Skoda shop here - they do mail order.

thanks for your help guys, and Stu - your walkthrough made it a breeze! It all appears to be working properly, and I am making do with the old fascia until I get a new one.

I got the MFD2 from a Czech guy living in the UK, and it is original Skoda splash screen/colours, etc. It is also the "A" revision. I don't know the difference between that and future versions but it seems to do the trick!

excuse my ignorance (i'm not an 'audi tech'), but what happens if the unit is not 'vag comed'?

It's been kinda explained in the posts above, it's like setting it to work with the car.
