Could I get a good part ex for a new type 2.0 TDi CRD?

Find the weaknesses of your particular car and address them yourself. Service it yourself or get an Independent to do it.

Bank the warranty money and spend a little bit of it on preventative maintenance over and above that sceduled.

Enjoy driving a well made and well maintained car which will then last a long time.

Good advice I think. Though being the owner of a V6 TDi I am tempted to pay the ~£200 premium to at least get cover against an unforseen major engine or gearbox disaster which if uninsured would effectively write the car off. My ~£10k saved will more than cover the cost from the bank interest!

This motor is the nicest motor I've ever owned and had I bought a 1.9 TDi I'd not be bothering with the policy at all.

If anyone can recommend a good reliable independent Skoda service workshop in the mid or south Cheshire area I will use them for sure. I am also going to start changing the oil myself every 6 months rather than 12 months too. (I do ~12k miles a year).

I've already checked the plenum drains, they were fine

I agree about the engine/gearbox issues - I really do not want a £5k bill for one of these so I will def have the Skoda warranty in November unless i find something i don't like in the small print.

I'm going to take Roto's advice I think and pay the ~£220 for the engine/gearbox cover from Warratny Direct. At the end of the day, if the sat nav packs in, it won't be the end of the world. I'd just buy a TomTom or something instead.

Tom Tom are very good but it is not the same as a fitted satNav. Ihave a Go700 in my wife's Fiesta and it really works well but it is a pain the a**e to have to keep moving it when you park and then fit it up again when you come back. The tell tale sign on the front screen is also a problem (the circle) as this could invite some moron to break in on the off chance you HAVE left it in the glove box.

I'm hoping the sat nav doesn't actually break!
