PD160 Question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Johnny50 got me thinking about this but will a pd160 affect my service and warrenty when I take it for a service tomorrow?

I can't see it in my honest opinion.

Hope you can help.

Technically, it's an engine modification, but they'd have to a. be pretty switched-on to spot it (I know it's larger and all, but it's got the OEM look), and b. be pretty picky to pull you up for it. Of course, it only becomes a warranty 'issue' if something goes wrong with your engine, and TBH they'd be pretty hard-pressed to prove anything.

Then again, I left all that kind of thing until mine was out of warranty... :sofahide:

Thanks mate, I really don't think they will notice and if they do come up with anything I'll just play deaf and say "you sold the car to me like that!"

In all likihood it won't be seen as a mod. Though if your car is all blinged up with redone interior, alloys, spoilers and or graphics, they may take the "wrong" attitude.

IMO it's not about whether the warranty applies or not. It's about the middle ground, the presumption, normally, that items are warranty-able.

Once you get into the realms of trying to prove that something is not failing due to mods, you start spending money and talking to lawyers. All the while, your car can be off the road.

The only noticeble thing the car has is a set of black stripes and a splitter but the car was covered by thr warrenty when I got the brakelight switch fixed in march.

You've got to be aware that a mod will only affect the warranty on any part that might be affected by it (i.e. the stripes and splitter might affect a paintwork / bodywork claim, just like my CD changer and Polo cup holder (the only mods I did while the car was still in warranty) could have affected the warranty on the stereo and dash trim. But as I (and others) have said, you'll probably be fine!

Cheers mate

I specifically asked Chathams skoda about mods and how they effect the warranty as i wondered how 312's would affect mine. Their reponse was that the warranty is lost on parts direcly affected by the change. I can't see the possibility of a PD160 having any adverse effect on any parts of the car at all.

Thanks Chris, much appreciated.

Suppose when you know what the right part like a pd160 looks like then the average spark will not have a clue!

A service place in chippenham noticed mine, but i think he may be on here.

Got chatting about fabias. Nice Guy.

Not really any point to this post!

But they didnt mind it.

HTH.

Well the pd160 was not noticed! But other things were like my squeek was a seized brake caliper on the disc and also needed new discs and pads all round for the car, so what turned out to be a resonable cost for service and MOT turned into a big expensive day for me!

Also the car needs to go back to Skoda for some warrenty work on the bushes and wish bones on wednesday.

All I can say is thank goodness for staying with the folks at present!

Davy

Hope they never changed the air filter in the service

I stuck my old filter back in the car just in case they tried to chuck the green cotton one so I got a new filter off them which I've taken out and replaced again with the green cotton filter.

Downer about the discs/pads Davy. :(

Aye it is but Hannah has given me half the cost back so only really cost me £350 now!

Not sure if I am taking it to skoda next year, going to look around for next year.

I can recommend a place if you decide not to go to Skoda. :)

that would be good

I presume everything else (apart from bushes) were ok then ?

yep, also needed a couple of new indicator bulbs in the back lights whic I replaced six months ago!! My dad did notice they were flashing white when I blasted past him on friday night!

I would have expected them to last longer than 6 months!

Cheapo bulbs ?

...although the OEM ones weren't any better when mine went in for its first service! Perhaps they have the same supplier?!

Gutted!

I had the brakes replaced because some were worn and one had a seized caliper and I bought the latest edition of a VAG mag and it gives me a solution (30min solution) on how to fix it, bit gutted now like

Sometimes I wish I was more mechanicly minded!

So did the brakes really need replaced ??

Or could they have been fixed ?
